Change MSOffice License to a different PC

I've changed the PC in my office and I want to move my office license from the old to the new.

Do you guys have any ideas how to do it? I searched the MS website and found no details.

In my experience they're pretty decent about it if you don't try to rip them off. They seem let you do this on about 3-5 computers serially, assuming you decomission each one. In other words, install on computer A, stop using computer A, install on computer B, etc. It helps if you reregister using the same contact information. If you kill a lot of computers, I think they just email or call you around try #5 or so.

Agree with Tomcam. I've never had any problem moving office from one pc to another.

Most of the time you'll be fine just installed it on the second PC and using it. Microsoft don't have the resources to check up on every licence key that gets used a second time (especially as the standard licence allows you to use it on 1 main PC/laptop and 1 portable device/laptop).

In the unlikely event it does get flagged up you can get it sorted with a few minutes on the phone. I worked in an IT department where the licence keys weren't properly tracked and we were forever having to do reinstalls and guess which key to use. They'd frequently fail to register but 10 minutes on the phone and we were up and running.

    Ahh, I see.

Thanks. Looks like I'm too much into IM licensing that I forgot that MS license can be a little 'loose'.

    Joseph,

If it gets to be too much of a hassle, perhaps switching to Open Office may be an option. I have used MS office for years and switched to OO a while back and just love it. Works as well, if not better.

    Thanks,

    John
