Hey Guys,

I kind of been out of the loop for a while and don't know the latest trends in internet marketing. I'm looking for a way to make a passive income. I would appreciate any advice.

Not entirely passive (if that even exists) but the results can be for some time:
-> Find a high quality recurring payment product
-> Promote it heavily as an affiliate for a month
-> Make recurring commissions for a lot of months after that.

back in 1999 i was broke, and i join this forum. It changed my life and owe it to many senior warriors. One of them is willie crawford. The man is a genius.

I went from making $0 back then to making figures a month.

    how did I do this?

    Simple

    1) Build a list

    2) Give that list stuff they could chew on.

    3) i made a product and gave away 100% profits, yes 100%, but the catch was I got their email. And that meant affiliates were building my list for me.

the next product I made and plugged to my buyers list I made $5,000+ and soon after quit my job.

Having people build your list for you is killer, but most marketing people will not give away 100% of the commisions. But you see it smart, cause they are building your list, and all you are doing is sitting back, and watching it grow, while you build your next product.

I know will crawford does this, and two other warriors that have made hundreds of thousands of dollars using this exact thing, and they know others will not do it, cause it sounds stupid, and people are not willing to give away 100% of their business profits. But its the best thing I did, and allowed my to quit my job, and that list is still being build today, and on autopilit without me even toughing it. :-)

Its about working smarter not harder online.

Not much has changed. Same old process that has worked in the past still works today:

    1) Get a good niche

    2) Find demand

    3) Fulfill with product solution

    4) Drive traffic to squeeze page, and get them to opt-in

    5) Generate sale with email newsletter

    6) Continue to sell to them on backend

    7) Add high ticket items that will make you rich

    8) Automate your business

    That's it.

    1. Get into affiliate / CPA marketing
    2. Get good at creating ads and landing pages.
    3. Buy ads and send traffic.
    4. Profit, rinse, repeat.

Obviously it's not that simple, but as far as potential goes, CPA marketing with paid traffic is the best shot you got at going from $0 to $100+ per day in no time.

You're asking the wrong question. In fact, the whole idea of "passive income" is a lie. And if your focus is on "passive income," your focus is totally on the wrong thing.

As mentioned in this article (The Top 4 Reasons Why 'Passive Income' Is A Dangerous Fantasy - Forbes), Bryan Franklin, a Silicon Valley executive coach, pointed out: that "...the fundamental flaw common to all intentions to create “passive income”: the focus with such efforts is totally on the wrong thing.

'Every time I’ve seen someone create a business, with the ultimate intention of getting away from that business and its customers as quickly as possible, instead of moving towards that business and its customers, it fails.

“What makes business work is creating value. If you’re going into the business with the intention of not creating value, but of having it magically provide money for you, then you often make really bad choices. The business that you’re investing in or creating doesn’t tend to be creating value for its customers or for anyone. So it doesn’t tend to spit off the cash you’re hoping it will. So many times I’ve seen people pursue passive income, and end up having active losses instead. They just spend a lot of time and money trying to push responsibilities off on other people and having it not work.'”

Another excellent article is The Myth of Passive Income & The Best Thing That Ever Happened to Online Business (do you agree?) | Live Your Legend

When people talk about "passive income", they're really talking about leverage. First, entrepreneurs figure out how to create value and then they automate that process. But there is ALWAYS work up front -- usually A LOT of work.

Once the up front work is done, the goal is to then leverage your time, money and expertise as much as possible for as much return possible. That DOESN'T mean NO work.

Unfortunately, the myth of passive income plays to our natural tendency to try to get something for nothing or to game the system, to feel like we've pulled one over on someone.

But if this is your driving force, you'll fail. You're much better off choosing a smart business model in a niche you're passionate about. Smart business models used by the wealthy include:

      1. Publishing
      2. Membership-based businesses
      3. Real estate

What a lot of Warriors fail to realize is that IM has a lot of leverage already built into it. You're not in a field doing farm work, getting paid on an hourly basis for your labor. The Internet is already a system of connected, automated processes. These models take it a step further.

If you offer services on an hourly basis, you can leverage and "productize" your services by creating info products around what you know and do. (This is the publishing model.) Now you've taken the hourly service work out of the equation. If you can sell enough info products to equal or surpass your service-based income, you've taken a GIANT leap forward in leveraging your business and increasing your income -- and freed up a LOT of time (which can now be used to generate MORE income).

But understand this: in ANY business, there is ALWAYS a certain amount of up front work. There is ALWAYS a certain amount of "maintenance" work (customer service, tech support, etc.). And there is ALWAYS marketing to do.

You can't get away from that -- unless you become a venture capitalist and just fund other people's businesses, invest in the stock or bond market, etc.

Bottom line: if you're looking for completely "passive income", you're just another idiot looking for something for nothing. People like this WILL fail -- and DESERVE to fail.

The closest thing to passive income I generate is selling recurring commission software as an affiliate. I still need to generate sales each month to maintain or increase revenue, but that's set up through autoresponders and a blog.

I still put a bit of time into this each year, but not much. It's slow going in the beginning, but pays off well in the long run if you're able to sell it.

Software is good because the stick rate is higher than membership sites, supplement/info renewal programs and the like. At least generally it is.

Other than that, and I've tried many online models, 100% passive income isn't very common. Most models require some oversight and usually a fair amount of work in the beginning.

Take email marketing, you still need to mail your list which requires writing or reviewing email content. You also need to attract subscribers which requires reviewing ad campaigns and/or creating content for free traffic. While paid traffic is fantastic if you can profit from it, it does require at the very least weekly oversight. Free traffic isn't really free - you need to work for it, which obviously isn't passive.

SEO - sure, you might be able to get sites ranking and kicking off some good income doing nothing for a few months, but I doubt rankings for any half-decent paying keyword will maintain if you do nothing for 6 to 12 months.

Outsourcing: Outsourcing and hiring help is fantastic, but it still requires management.

Unless you have $3 million dollars to buy bonds with and live off the interest, be prepared to do some work. That said, you don't have to work 8 hours a day once you have a system in place. You can also sell websites for big bucks, take a loooooooong vacation and do it again. The point is this line of work does afford you much more flexibility than most other types of work, but unless you have millions, you still need to work.

My suggestion is find an online model you enjoy. Then it's not work. Most of what I do I like doing. There are many methods to make a living online - find one that you enjoy.

I'm currently totally focused on my backlinking business at the moment but previous to having my own service I was an affiliate for a couple of other services/softwares out there.

I created a couple of Youtube videos and put my affiliate link (cloaked) in the description. I did this over 4 years ago. I still receive approx. $50 a month as a result of people seeing these videos and signing up using my link (I joined the affiliate program via clickbank - all free to do)

I sometimes wondered how much money I would be earning via this method if I had 200 - 400 - 600 videos up there doing this for lots of different products instead of a couple - It could be six months work but if it's work done once then earning years later I believe you could call this Passive Income.

I'm looking forward in a way to finding a spare six months to do this BUT I'm too busy just now.. (Maybe I should put THIS in an Ebook and sell it! )

It's obvious by the varied answers in this thread that not all people share the same definition of passive income.

Even the definition I pulled off the top of Google is in conflict with itself.

"Passive income is an income received on a regular basis, with little effort required to maintain it. It is closely related to the concept of "unearned income"

Personally I agree with the first sentence in that answer, but, not the second one.

To me Passive Income means "little or no effort to maintain it." Not, "It is closely related to the concept of unearned income."

Passive income is earned using the principle, "Work hard now to enjoy the benefits later." (Of course, winning the lottery for $5,000 a week for life, or being left a lifetime annuity by a rich relative would be a couple of the many exceptions.

But to answer your question using my definition...

I'll start with the thought that first you have to work and then you can enjoy passive income.

Just one example, you could start a membership site and over time get 1,000 members paying you $7 a month. (It's been done time and time again) You might have to work day and night to get it started, however after you are earning $7,000 a month you could pay someone to maintain it for you (not going into detail as to what that entails here) and collect $3,000 a month residual income for a long long time.

Yes there are issues like attrition and such, however when you get the machine in motion you figure out ways to keep it going.

There are a many more ways to earn a passive income. I just shared one with you.

Every time someone asks a question about how to make money a lot of answers are given as if the questioner is asking, "How can I make hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars a month." I don't live in that world and making a living income, even a living residual income is very doable on and/or offline.

Those who say it can't be done are either trying to keep all the goodies for themselves or they don't know how to do it or they are thinking in terms of millions of dollars when some just need thousands. Or, as I said their definition of "passive income" could just be different than mine.

I have a friend who played some music 40 years ago. The only work he does for his money is visit the mail box once in a while. I hear "you" thinking that's residual income not passive. Here we go with definitions again.

Not rich but happy with my tiny passive income,

The best way to make passive income is to do one small repeatable passive income task every single day.

For example, e-mail marketing is more time efficient than cold calling; but I guarantee you, the guy who cold calls 10 customers everyday will do more than the guy who e-mails 100 customers on Monday; 3 on Tuesday; take Wednesday/Thursday Off; Send 18 on Friday, and break for the weekend.

    There are only three ways...

    1. Leverage time

    2. Leverage money

    3. Leverage labor

You have to do one of those very well... preferably all three... to create
true passive income that will last a lifetime. There is no other way.

A contract. An agreement. A legal binding agreement between two (or more) parties.

Mineral rights. Oil rights. Gas leases. Property right of ways.

Good commercial example...Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles. The royalties have been said to be in the hundreds of millions of dollars. For the LICENSING of the use of the name. About as passive as it gets, and is not UNearned income, an IRS explanation...some legacies will claim they worked hard for their inheritance.

There is a guy, call him Bill. He's been paid several million dollars because he owns the rights to a Name Brand. He has an agreement.

He has NO involvement in the making, manufacture, distribution, sales, stocking, advertising or selling of the products, he gets a check every month based on sales minus returns.

I think that fits the definition of a Passive Income.

    Sounds good to me.

If you are a writer and don't want to start your own blog, you might have some success by publishing Hubpages or at any of the online article sites that share income. The money you earn will be residual as you only need to publish and promote your article for awhile to get it into Google search.

Content is one of the best business systems one can monetize and implement. It is scalable, intangible (via internet), controllable, and passive. The scalability of content is massive and unreal. If you can sell content to one person, you can sell to a million simply by increasing your marketing dollars. Find out the contents which the peoples are looking for and monetize it through CPA content locking. It is 100% passive.
