Hi guys My question is which one is the best source of traffic for a newbie SEO or SNM ?

I've already started using social networks as a source of traffic for my website and the results was good because I have a long experience with social networks especially facebook, BUT in the last month I've heard and read a lot about how search engines can be a good steady source of traffic in the long run.
what do you guys think ?

I wouldn't want to use social networking traffic in my own business, but even so I don't doubt that overall it's better quality traffic than SEO traffic. (Not saying much, there, admittedly! ).

I think both SEO and SNM have their own importance/weightage, but for the newbie SEO is best source of traffic

It's so frustrating and disconcerting that people here can say this, and that some newbies are probably even naive enough to take notice of it, too.

The reality, of course, is exactly the opposite.

I always suggest to aspiring marketers that they shouldn't put time and effort into trying to attract SEO traffic, for two main reasons: first, it's very precarious and makes your business Google-dependent, and any business that's Google-dependent is no more than one algorithm-change away from a potential accident (or even a potential disaster), as so many Warriors have been finding out over the last year or two, some of them to their very great cost; secondly, for me, search engine traffic, in every single one of my niches, has been uniformly the worst-converting traffic out of everything I've ever tried - search engine visitors to all my websites typically stay the least time, view the fewest pages, opt in the least often and actually buy anything by far the least often. I admit I do get tons of search engine traffic to all my main sites (because high rankings for multiple keywords happen to be a minor side-benefit of the main targeted traffic-generation method I use) but I'd hate to have to make a living just from that traffic. If you have a good look round the forum, you'll also see plenty of other Warriors making exactly this point.

I couldn't agree with you more! Every business or venture should ensure that they have as much control over their revenue stream as possible and therefore should not be entirely reliant on one source of traffic for income.

Knowing what I know now, I would say it is far easier and more effective to start marketing through social media. Just jump into a group, provide consistent value in the conversations and before you know it people will start to follow you organically and you can build on from there! If you connect with the right people while still providing value you can also generate natural backlinks to your site. SEO today is increasingly moving towards how users are interacting with your site and brand, so I would recommend that you integrate social media into your perspective of SEO, as the two are no longer mutually exclusive.

I learnt the hard way. I spent over 3 years ranking sites on Google with the strict SEO mindset of old and ignoring any kind of social media interaction. Don't get me wrong, my SEO efforts paid off as they still generate a passive income to this day, but it's not a good feeling knowing that the level at which you were once earning could be changed overnight by a snap of Google's fingers (or anybody else's fingers for that matter).

it is quite possible to combine SEO & SNM together for even more power. Using the keyword research strategy shared in my simple SEO strategy article explains exactly how to make this happen when creating articles.

Pppsshh... are we from the same planet?

SEO is the LAST source of traffic a NEWBIE should be targeting - we actually want to help them make money, not hinder them

Sorry but that was junk advice - if it wasn't: back up your claim... this should be interesting, I'm intrieged how you will explain this one...

How on earth is SEO traffic better for newbies?

In fact how is it even better than Social Media at all?

      Peace,
      Gh0zt

My take is that SEO takes time. I also have a new website (2 months old) and I don't get any visitors from organic searches. In long term, probably it is best to be done as soon as possible, but we should not expect to see overnight results (I'd love to see somebody prove me wrong). I don't have experience with Social Media, I placed a link about my website on my FB page and I got three visits out of it. Probably I need to become more friendly
To me, the only thing which works at the moment is to become active on forums, to provide some interesting (or at least, challenging) content. It is a slow process and takes more time and financially it's not worth it. But maybe it will grow one day. And if I enjoy chatting (and driving some people crazy), I'm not at a big loss...

I agree with your response because I use SEO and SNM inside of mine.

Social network traffic is beneficial only if it is meant for traffic to your website. but if you are offering particular products or services you have to use SEO so that only genuine clients who want to avail your services could come to your website. overall both has its advantages and disadvantages.

There is huge difference between social media traffic and search engine traffic. Search engine traffic is more targeted and more likely to convert, unfortunately social media traffic has very low conversion rate. Instead of thinking about traffic you should work for targeted traffic. I hope you know search engine optimization

I did own a few years ago a site that I bought on flippa that relied om seo traffic. It was getting around 20 visits per day and site was making 10-15 per day. It was a flower delivery website. I decided to move the site higher in the rankings and did blackhat seo on it and basically destroyed it.

From my experiance SEO traffic is fine as long as you dont try to game Google because they will catch on

I think both of the SEO & SMM is the good to reach one destination. If one wants to increase one's site traffic, he should use the both features. Nowadays the Important of SMM is increasing day by day. One can not think one's business without SMM. It does not mean the Importance of SEO is decreasing daily. Of course the SEO is also important. so you should use both of these option.

There's not a "best" traffic source for a newbie...

It all depends on your target market, goals, budget, etc.

Your goal is to put your offer in front of those looking for it... This can be done in multiple ways, and in many cases you will want to use multiple traffic sources to send people to your funnel.

Again, your goals may dictate where/how you start... Very often, I will test a funnel with paid traffic BEFORE I spend time on other traffic sources or build out a lot of content, etc.

    Thanks,

    Josh

In my opinion SEO is the last thing you ever want to focus on, it's unrealiable, unpredictable and for moet people just an all around waste of time...

I like knowing exactly how much money I am going to make everyday, and am not a big fan of waking up with all my traffic gone for no reason

  • SEO can be tricky because we don't own it, but it also has it's advantages. Email Marketing is a sure way to bring you good wealth, especially on the long term.

I vote for SEO if I have to choose, but I would not depend only on SEO.
