Need help choosing a niche

Hey there fellow warriors,

Been going back and forth on what niche I should choose when starting a website which eventually be monetized (mainly affiliate marketing). When it comes to the affiliate part I believe that for example Clickbank and Jvzoo are good because of their great commissions. Amazon if perfect as well but the low commission of 4-15 % means you got to promote a shitload of products to actually make a decent buck. Anyway, narrowed it down to three different types of niches or topics if you will, all with personal pro's and con's:

- Health and fitness: Focusing on how to stay healthy and good exercises mostly.

Pro's: A lot to write about, I have some personal experience worth sharing, a big public to reach out to, a lot of products to promote on chosen affiliate sites.

Con's: Big competition, cannot call myself more of an expert than the rest of the bloggers out there, not my biggest passion but still interesting for me.

- Sci Fi games site with a weekly story written by me:

Pro's: Something I really burn for, cannot write enough about sci fi games, would be great to publish my own sci fi story, competition not too big.

Con's: Not too much to sell, Amazon offers more but the commission rate sucks.

- Wealth and money managing: Focusing on how-to guides regarding money managing and making money.

Pro's: Lot's to write about, lot's to promote on my affiliate sites (clickbank and jvzoo) and it's an idea that can be expanded in the future if all goes well.

Con's: Seems like a large competition, same as health niche; not the best of the best.

So, what do you guys think? What should I do? Just write any tips or ideas that you have, I'm all ears!

Thanks!

I like the big 3 markets. I recommend people start with one of those general interest markets first. There's a ton of places to get traffic.

    (1)IM/MMO/Biz OPP
    (2)Health & Beauty
    (3)Dating & Relationships

Without any doubt, if you're starting out pick something you know/have interest in. Anything related to a hobby or interest would be good.

You mentioned sci-fi games - look around and you'll find loads of guides/e books/software that you can promote. I used to promote Warcraft leveling and gold guides about 5 years ago and they sold very well. Check your favorite games there's probably something you can promote or if not create a guide yourself

Being interested in a niche will make it much easier to create something worthwhile.

You've mentioned huge markets - all highly competitive. Your first order of business is to do your research and find a way to position your business in one of these markets so that you create a niche where you can compete.

You can create this niche by finding unmet needs and desires of those in your market - then figure out how to address those needs either by creating a product, licensing one, or becoming an affiliate of someone else that has a product.

If you don't drill down and get specific, you will most likely be competing against thousands of others in the broad market - not something you should be doing.

I would suggest the Sci-Fi games site for a number of reasons. One big one is you are very keen and seem to have and endless amount of energy for creating your own unique content.

When you say publish a story, do you mean a piece of Sci-Fi fiction? If so, it would lend itself to Kindle publishing as well. Publish one story on your site from a Kindle book of SF short stories to promote the book, for example.

There are many monetization ideas besides Amazon.

    Build a List
Imperative to have an Opt-In form and start building a list from your traffic. A great way to promote your posts and stories as well as CPA and other offers.

    CPA Offers
Many online games have CPA offers for free trials that pay for an email or sign-up. Write about the game, feature a story based in the game world, do a "newbie walk-through" of the free sign-up process (great for a YouTube video).

    Check offervault.com
Browse games category (scroll down a lot- the top offers are usually gambling and lottery CPAs). Search 'MMORPG', 'Free trial', etc to try and find offers you can promote.

    Game Guides
Many general gaming guides, leveling guides, gold making guides, etc. can be found on Clickbank and JVZoo.

    AdSense/Revenue Share
You can generate ad revenue and revenue share income from sites like twitch.tv and YouTube. These are also great places to socialize and market/link your gaming blog. If you can get a lot of traffic to your blog you can sell banner space or add CPA offer links.

    Kindle
If you like to write, you can publish your own short stories/novels/guides on Kindle.

The gaming market is huge and profitable but there are many sub-niches and unique ways of entering the market. Having a passion and ability to write is a great asset.

Thank you for the constructive feedback! I am more drawn towards creating a sci fi website, forgot to mention that I will even include fantasy games and fantasy stories.

Your tips and ideas are very helpful and I will definitely take them into consideration. I feel that I would need more experience, knowledge and different perspective if I were to start a wealth or health site, seeing as they are immensely huge.

But I will still do some more digging and see if there are any special demands or needs that are unmet at the moment!

I've been looking at sub niches e.g Healthy diets is the main niche so I would go for Raw Food Diet as a sub niche. You can hit gold on sub niches as everyone is doing the main niches.

I'd recommend you to look for an offer that pays per lead and not per sale. There are plenty of different products you can promote that way and they give you the ability to fully control what you are doing. If you want to get paid per sale, then you depend on other people as well and could make your life harder. Don't worry if the niche is competitive - where is competition, there is money to be made! Try to think one step in front of your competition and you will succeed.

      Hi

Choosing a niche that is right and profitable takes time but look at the following factors.

      • What's the competition levels & monthly searches like?
      • Do you have any knowledge in that niche?
      • Is there any affiliate programs that you can link with?
I know it not my typical response but I have written about finding niches a lot today and im getting tired about repeating myself. Please don't take this the wrong way and I will be happy to help anyone regarding this topic. Just reach out.

      Regards

As so often, I can't add much to what Steve has already wisely said above (post #3), but here's a post which might also help you a little (and it contains links to a few other threads which may, too): http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post8561081

I'd also like to mention that in my opinion, "enthusiasts' niches" can easily be better than "problem-solving niches", and the reasons I think that are explained here: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post9408026

    Good luck!

If you love something, that's what you should write about as it will take you further in wealth and notoriety than trying to compete in wealth management niche (an already over saturated market).

Only you can bring your own unique voice to the stories, that no one else can duplicate or compete with.

You will get ravenous fans for your stories and you can monetize in any number of ways, not just Amazon. If Amazon doesn't work for you, then monetize through private advertising that you sell on your own site. This could work better than trying to make the person go off site anyway.

  • I recommend you go for something that your passionate about. So that when you do market, it's going to be fun and you will love what your doing.
