Can anyone recommend a free URL shortening & masking service, that will both shorten the link and cloak it...

I used to use pinurl.com, but that site seems to be down for some time now..

  • bit.ly works for me.

    And it also has click statistics.
  • Hi,

    Here's one to check out:

    Powered Exclusively by the scrnch.me URL Shortening Service

    (not an affiliate link)

    Thanks,

  • I make my own via WordPress. It's pretty easy - you can get any short domain you can get your hands on, install WP, and there are a variety of ways to do it from there.

    One I am experimenting with actually lets you use subdomains that redirect to a specific Page. I take that, and use PageLinksTo plugin to make it point to my desired destination off-site.

    That way, any backlink I do to my redirects actually can rank the page as its own domain, since it routes through a subdomain.

    At least, that's how I think it will work.

    But you don't have to go crazy like that - you could do it via GoCodes or NinjaAffiliate to make it easy to manage, and all you'd need is WP installed on a short URL of your choosing.

    • I have two suggestions:

      1. TinyUrl - You can even customize the shortened link if you'd like and if the customized name is available.

      2. Hootsuite - this is used for Twitter, but I've gone on there to only shorten urls when I need to as well..very easy.

      Hope this helps!!

  • Do it yourself because then you can have your own record of clicks. Make a php page called affiliatewhatever.php Here's the code for the whole page:

    Code:
    <?php
    header( 'Location: http://youraffiliatelink.com/blah-blah/whatever' ) ;
    ?>
