I'd be interested in knowing this, too.

I remember reading a very informative forum post on this years ago, but I've forgotten most of it and likely it's obsolete now.

There are alot of press release services on the internet. A free one i can recommend is prlog.org. And the best paid one i've used is prweb.com. But i'm a guy who loves to pay for traffic, so of course i'm going to recommend the paid option - because the results are faster, and there's no time for playing around with money. It does work to get your site great publicity. I like them as a marketing strategy. Give press releases a shot.

Yes Press Release websites like PRWeb get a high ranking on google search engine, but you have to pay to get it published on that network. Do not try the free ones those are a waste of time.
Your press release needs to be keyword optimized for the keywords you are targeting.

The occasional newsworthy, well written press release is all part of promoting your site/service and getting it "out there". They'll all convert, attract traffic differently depending on variable such as how widely the press release is picked up then how many read it and click through.

Why not try some and see how it goes for you.

Are press releases effective in promoting a website for a local market?
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[9489182].message }}
  • Profile picture of the author DoubleOhDave
Very, for a local market! Search the name of the area/country for press release sites and look up the Twitter usernames for local press - always remember to follow up your press release with social sharing *to the right people* and have a pressroom on your site - I recommend PRLog cos you can add your press room to your site and it will update as you release each PR with them. They offer free accounts and you can have more than one business profile.

      Two things to consider...

      1. "Press releases" are also called "news releases." News. Not an ad for your business. If you don't have real news to share, something that might interest more than just you, don't bother. Most of the PR sites that got slapped got slapped because they were turning into just the next form of purchased links.

      2. You have no idea just how far a good release can go. More and more offline publications are looking to the web for content, either as a story they can simply reprint or as a source for information for articles their writers are working on.

Which do you think might be more valuable? A link in a release among millions of other pages, or a mention in an article in USA Today (with url)? I know which I'd rather have...

Press Releases should be included in marketing campaigns, they do help websites generate traffic and also contribute to SEO/SEM, but you need to use them to share your business news.

Just to add on to what John said. A well written press release can give you the best bang for your buck ... If

      1. You have a product or service with a unique news angle.
      2. Wrapped in an engaging story.
      3. That's targeted to a specific market of people.

Miss any one of those 3 keys and you go into the circular file or deletion heaven.

here is the skinny, most warriors come here and whine on about presses releases they do not work.

But 94% of people do it wrong, we hire a retired ex journalist to write ours, has to be on something newsworthy. Basically if you can do that, you have half won the race. Our last press release, bought in 238 subscribers and over $10,000 in sales, in a really stupid niche too.

But our stupid niches makes content and newsworthy stuff even better, and more attractive, so I guess you see my point.

You'll need to be very careful with PR these days, since Google penalized PR sites last spring, here you have additional information:

Get your press release written professionally with correct formatting and keywords and with links back to your money site and head over to Fiverr to look for sellers offering to submit your PR to paid PR sites. Order the gig (I personally don't loke Fiverr, but this is one service I have used multiple time), wait for 24 hours and you will see the traffic coming in once the PRs get published.

    Hope that helps.

I think the best method is paid sites like cnn for example. You article must be perfect and it will bring you solid traffic then. And of course with two anchors it will improve SERP. Try also buying good backlinks. Regards!

Any more suggestions on excellent PR submission sites? Just got burned with Live PR Submitter. Saw a suggestion for Magic Submitter in another forum but it seems quite general and not focused on PR.

SEO questions like this (quite apart from the fact that they live in the SEO Forum) have absolutely nothing to do with Press Releases. If your primary objective with press releases is "to get SEO benefits" then you've misunderstood, on a very fundamental level, what they're for, what they do, and how they might help your business.

And by the way, there's no such thing as a "high-PR site". Websites don't have page ranks. Only pages have page ranks. The site's own home page having a high page rank doesn't help you much. What matters (in terms of page ranks, I mean - not that those really matter at all, in this context) is the PR of the page on which your link is published.

All this has nothing to do with press releases at all. (And "buying backlinks" is awful advice.)
