Make Money Selling Domain Names

Here is a technique for selling domain names that may be of interest
to some of my fellow Warriors...

First, purchase a domain name such as PuebloCriminalAttorney.com
(and set it up with Sedo.com or similar site)

Second, mail an actual letter like the following to as many criminal
attorneys in Pueblo that you can get addresses for:

------------------------
Dear (insert name):

I have decided to sell the domain name "PuebloCriminalAttorney.com"
and thought you might be interested in purchasing it.

For more information on how to secure this domain name for your own,
just go to www.PuebloCriminalAttorney.com and click on the "For Sale" link.

The Sedo.com domain escrow service will be used to provide technical
assistance and security for the domain transfer.

Thank you for your time and best wishes with your practice,

(your signature)

P.S. Please note that I am contacting several Pueblo criminal attorneys
with this notice and expect that this domain will sell quickly!
------------------------

Of course you don't have to use attorneys and you can search
for available domain names in any city that you prefer.

The cost is pretty low (domain name, letterhead, postage) and
it is ultimately a numbers game.... mail enough letters, and the
odds are good for getting a sale.

(I have had success with this, but can't guarantee that you will!)

Hope that helps someone,
Brian

I second that! I would go on to offer website creation services, marketing, or even help transferring the potential buyer's website over. The key here is to upsale and make more than just the cost of the domain.

Not a bad idea but in my opinion the returns are low. Another idea would be to rent the domain name and a website to the organisation.

Great idea though and I know from a friends experience doing this that it can be very profitable with the right domian name!

This approach sounds really familiar - Gene Pimental's offering in the War Room comes to mind. (Hint: If you need details, join the War Room and look up his post there.)

I know there's more than one way to skin a cat. Or is that spin a hat?

    Just sayin'.

      Not sure what you're implying?

I've been doing this since 2006 but never suggested that I invented the approach.

Brian - I recently read Gene's thread... so the similarities jumped out at me. Not implying anything - and I agree there are no 'new' ideas. We'd likely have to go back a long ways to find the originator of this idea.

Think of my comment as a promo for the war room.

          No problem

Sounds like the War Room must have some good stuff!

    Hi Brian,
have you tried contacting people via email too? Because I tried this thing with emails and found it very hard to even get a response. Wondering if you did try the email way, did you notice big difference in reactions?
    Thanks.

aivzdog, there are many sites where you could, like: sedo, godaddy, ebay and others, but I think sedo and godaddy are the most popular

But make sure buy a good domain if you want to make money, because many people buys bad domains and then nobody wants to buy them

This method is not very new. In fact, I believe there was a warrior who had a whole course and forum set up specifically on this method.

You are actually doing like a reseller.

I think customizing the letter and showing value to the potential buyer that directly related to the niche is crucial also, show them the search volume and why its important for them to own that domain and definitely work in higher end niches, you can charge more and will most likely have a much higher conversion rate.

Reselling domain like what locke815 said. Pretty neat idea when you have extra cash on the side.
