How do you go about looking for clients?

Hey,

I currently make whiteboard animation videos and sell the service on sites like Freelancer.

But I want to know how to find more clients outside websites like these who could potentially want these videos.

What kind of things should I be doing?

Thanks Joe

  • Just a quick tip...

One thing you can do is look for websites and/or companies that you feel could use your product or service. Make a list of them, then look for their contact info and reach out to them. A good place to reach out is LinkedIn, or just a simple email.

Not everyone will bite, but some will and that will help increase your clients.

There are a lot of ways to get more clients but I'll let a few other warriors chime in on this as well.

Cold calling? Really? For a visual product like whiteboard animation videos? I think not by a looong shot.

GetRichMethods summed it up best. Again.

Although I'd add to her most excellent list to put up a YouTube video or two, or links on your sales page, to show potential prospects exactly what it is you can do with those animation videos.

I have somewhat of an idea but if you show me you'll have a much better chance of selling me versus explaining it to me. But that's just my opinion.

Hence scrapping the cold calling idea. Not worth your time unless you have nothing but time and enjoy the aggravation.

Yeah well I'm working on another idea which involves putting a whiteboard video on my squeeze page to show people what I can do.

I'm making a video series on how to make whiteboard videos and having a video I've my done on squeeze page will help get people on my list.

        Thanks Joe

You made my day, clawHAMMER. Thanks!

Excellent suggestions, yourself. In fact, I'd say this project shouldn't be carried out without them. The snazzy videos are only going to increase conversions, and cold-calling, like you say, is really not necessary. I've got nothing against cold-calling, creating interest and all that, but there's already piles of interest to tap into already; a ready-to-buy market. Lots of repeat business will come from them, too.

Thanks! I appreciate the compliment. It's a pretty simple way to make an extra $1500 or so a month. Good for reinvestment into long-term projects. Back to your videos. You'll find a massive demand for this among marketers. We're not all comfortable talking on camera, and those whiteboards are perfect for many niches; much better than throwing together some static public domain images. I don't recall seeing anyone offering it, either, though I'm sure they're just not on my radar. The above method, though, works well for related products - PBNs, Authority Sites, Amazon Affiliate Sites, etc, etc - so why not whiteboard videos? If you know how to rank them, you could even incorporate that into your cart. Anyway - all the very best!

              Just on your illustration idea.

What happens once you've posted it in your local groups? These groups only get a limit of people due to the size of the town.

Do you then target groups in areas that aren't close?

I'd recommend checking out the offline marketing part of the forum. That's more up your alley and will probably provide you with much better advice than this part of the forum.

You may also be able to JV with a few agencies/companies. People that already have a large base of clients that want to offer another service. Allow them to make a bit of money from the deal and you'll have an endless supply of work.

The secret to success.... that you never hear around here... is to create opportunity. The more opportunity you can create, the more success you will have. Opportunity can be for clients, or it can be for web designers, SEO guys, etc. Creating an opportunity for those people to make money by reselling your services, is the ideal situation for everyone, isn't it?
