need help to narrow my niche

i was told that productivity is too general and too competitve and to narrow it down further so i was thinking of maybe time management for Christians cause i think many of them struggle with balancing their life with their church duties

what do you all think??

Some folks told me i should go ahead and some say i should stick with normal time management???

Have you put up a squeezepage or surveyed people to find out what they might pay for such a service? You'd have to get the price point just right. The competition is heavy. There are a lot of time management services/apps that can segment different scheduling activities. Church, school, kids stuff, etc. You would need something really unique to stand out from the crowd. Maybe find out what other services they've used and ask if they feel those services leave any gaps that you could help fill?

I think starting with time management for Christians is a good place to start.

Maybe, eventually - you'll notice that your audience is mainly parents with small kids and you'll be able to narrow a little more to specifically target Christian parents with small kids who don't know how to manage their time.

But, I think you're at a good starting point.

no i havent really surveyed people but growing up in church i realise many people struggle with this

i was thinking of maybe using what i learn from those time management gurus like Brian Tracy etc and basically applying those stuff to Christians

the goal will be eventually to help people and make a business out of it, creating products etc......i dont think i have seen much people addressing this topic but i see a few books on Amazon teaching these kind of things......

Your target has been exposed to these things, big time, via Frankly Covey, and Covey principles/planners/bible study etc. etc.

Plus about 101 as found at Amazon

Amazon.com: Some Great Christian Time Management Books

But if you drilled down, and say, made it targeted to Church CHOIR leaders.

Church CHAIRS of various groups. Say, the Chairwoman of the Soup Kitchen held every month.

Or for the Kids Group leader.

Look, TIME MANAGEMENT is an everybody issue, so some basic stuff with some tweaks to a very specific niche, could find an audience, then, you just create a small wrap around product for each niche.

Take a look at Entrepreneur Reports, they all have the same basic business info in them with an "insert" for the business plan they offer.

ok i hear you but to be honest i have been a youth leader for quite a while but my problem in time management is not just as a youth leader but i help out in lots of areas in church and mostly in church about 80 percent of the work is done by 20 percent of the people and when you invlved in everything it can be time consuming so i was thinking of focusing along the lines of leaders....

i dont know enough about choir leader etc to talk specifically to them or any particular group within the church except leaders in general....

or what about time management for the volunteer church leaders who not full time in Ministry like myself....???

we obviously dont have as much time as those who are full time????

                  SlingShot,

You discover a niche by doing research on demand in a market. You don't do it by guessing, having a "hunch" that something will be a great seller, or by people in a forum telling you to pick or target groups of people to sell to.

A niche is the way you position your business to fill a need with products / services that meet the demand.

I hope you understand the difference because it will affect your ability to compete - even rise above and stand out - over other businesses.

                  The best to you,

                  Steve

Do you already have products made for these niches? If not, then just go for the money.

Find a different, super-smaller niche (ex: "how to grow long hair even if you hot-comb it to death"), and takeover and make money. I don't understand it. The money is so easy online. It's not manipulative if you think i have no values/morals/scruples (because i dont) - but it's just the nature of the business online. You gotta decide... you wanna make money or run a non-profit?

    Right you are.

You are trying to force a product out of something you know vs creating an in-demand product.

IMO if you continue on this path you will find dissapointment.

      ok bro just 1 question.....

let's say i search on amazon and realise that not much Christians are selling such types of books or buying such types of books on time management etc but i realise that Christians are buying lots of books that teach the subject

'how to do a bible study'

is that a good sign of something to puruse further because it seems like there is demand for it????

Good point. That's what I call an untapped demand. Now speak more specifically to their needs better than the other books that's available. That's your mission if you choose to accept it. Don't make it more complicated than it already is.

You're a church volunteer and you know other church volunteers. Interview them, observe them, ask questions, take notes.

Find out the frustrations, irritations, or stress points of "Church Volunteers" that you can solve, relieve or help them with.

Being a former church volunteer myself, I know the difficulty of balancing my already limited time between church, family, business and personal time. If I only had a 25 hour day I'd have it made.

If you do your research good enough the book will almost write itself.

I say go for it and may the "Force" be with you!

This I believe is the problem with most of us who are trying to create a business. We think that if people are suffering from something, they will be willing to pay for a solution.

      Doesn't always work that way.

I can't speak authoritatively, as this is a niche I know nothing about - but I'd get real nervous trying to create demand for a product.

I'd rather look at what is already being sold (and every magazine rack is a gold mine) and see where I can add to that... if CB, JVZ, and others don't already have products for the niche - I will not assume that my genius has ferreted out a niche no-one else has spotted.

I'd rather think that such a niche (that apparently has little or no competition) is not worthy of my time if I want to earn money with my efforts.

Naturally, this holds not at all if it's a hobby interest of mine - in which case, it's not profit that's primary.

    Just my 2 cents...

  • I use productivity as my niche. However, yes, it is a huge niche, so I talk all about the fundamentals of productivity, and the 1 secret I have discovered.

So, my niche is productivity, however, at the same time it's not.

Time management sounds great. However, I believe you could also use productivity. Many of the most successful internet marketers just use niches like Health & Fitness (HUGE) Online Marketing (HUGE) and more (HUGE) ones, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Value is key. Hope this helps

Are there church forums you could check into and find out what time management issues there are having, find a solution and market it to them, I am not sure what all the problems are but you need to do some research
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[9560623].message }}
  • I would first do some research and find what Christians buy that you can provide. I'm a Christian and I spend money so do a billion other Christians. The best way to take a short cut is find someone who is doing what you want to do and analyze his sales funnel, that's a shortcut.

PS: Don't rip off or steal but you can look at what they are doing then make your own (try to improve).
