Pitching the MMO Niche to a Specific Demographic

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience pitching to a specific demographic, i.e. to single moms, to starving artists, to electricians, etc. in the making money online niche. The question comes about as I am looking to do this myself, to a specific demographic I have career experience in. "make money online electricians" doesn't return much in the way of search traffic. However, the gut tells me that a commanding tone as an electrician would at least have a fighting chance of being successful. Maybe get some solo ads on electrician mailing lists or the like. Does anyone have any similar experiences they'd care to share?

Thank you,

I'd say it depends what you're going for.

Teaching electricians to MMO when what you'll offer them is exactly the same as what you'd offer hairdressers or lawyers but just change the occupation name on the copy/product? Reckon it might not work out so well.

Teaching electricians to MMO around their unique schedule or because electricians have a special skill set that is transferable and you might make something work.

Teaching electricians to MMO for their business (lead generation, better website, adds, how to scale their business or start their own electrician business around working for an established firm via the internet) and you would have more of a hook, reason for targeting the niche and could charge more. It might miss the whole point of MMO though!!

You've actually hit on a good idea, and it's one I use myself. Most people, after all, want money - and if they have some, they may want more of it.

(At least) thousands of marketers do: "make money online for students", "make money online for single women", "make money online for housewives", "make money online for mothers stuck at home", and so on, are all very substantial and well-known markets. Some of them even have well-known forums with thousands of members. And there are many others, too.

I can't say that I've heard of anyone successfully market Make Money Opportunities to someone already making money in a specific skill, like electricians, etc. Not unless they're broke electricians out of work, for example, if that's the case then you'll have a whole other problem.

But I have heard of and done activities that help electricians, tax accountants, restaurants, etc. market their businesses online. That's much more common.

Sounds like you'll be a pioneer in what you're trying to do in some since. Just be careful, it's the pioneers who usually get shot with the most arrows and lose the most blood (or money).

There's a name for people who sell to specific demographics. They're called niche marketers.

I'm understanding your question to be about Marketing (IM) rather than about Make Money Online (MMO) because I don't think you mean electricians selling stuff online, such as, How To Wire Your House eBooks. Rather, I think you mean electricians using the Internet to help their offline business. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Having said that I have found many clients who didn't need the Internet to get them more business. They were mostly Mom and Pop operations that already had more business than they could handle.

So, when I was selling to them I'd show them how the Internet could free up their time.

My favorite and most appreciated offer was to build them a Website that would answer most questions about their business. They would put the URL on their business card and store front signs and voice mail and people could go there to find out prices, special sales, operating hours etc.

If I started over selling websites the only thing I'd do different is put a QR code on the Business Card.

We're on similar tracks. In the MMO world, if you don't have any computer skills, well, you only have access to so much potential in the first 90 days. If you have some computer skills and have some experience working with technical systems, more avenues are open in that first 90 days. If you've got 10 years experience as a director of marketing for a shoe store, even more opportunities are open. Pitching to each of these demographics will go differently, based on what they can currently do and what the next best step is for them.

Tell me something about transitioning mom-and-pop shops. What specifically weren't they doing that was obvious to them once they started to do it?
