I tend to simply do a Google search for "best wordpress plugin xxxx" - the x's being the title of what I'm looking for.

There seems to be many webpages dedicated to the best 'slider' plugin, or the best 'contact' plugin, etc.

This allows me to get precisely what I'm looking for, and no more...

It's all too easy to load up with dozens of plugins - but each one you add will also allow for the possibility of security leaks, and slowdowns of your site.

You should only use the absolute minimum number of plugins that you simply can't do without.

If you're looking for a specific plugin, you can either go to and enter the plugin name, or use Google. Let's say you want a slider plugin. Enter "best slider plugins," "WordPress slider plugins," or "slider plugins for WordPress" into your favorite search engine. This should help you find what you're looking for.

  • Profile picture of the author Barry Unruh has a blog where they review plugins and themes on a regular basis. If you are trying to figure out what is good for a particular purpose, it is a great place to start.

Otherwise, as others have suggested, I'd head to and use their search for plugins. You might get a bit overwhelmed since they list every plugin, whether it still works with modern versions or not.
