Are my plans for my e-book/course rock solid? What is your perspective?

I'm currently writing an e-book/course bundle which I will sell on a website and affiliate websites. The e-book/course pertains to resolving a specific business problem which many people seem to struggle with. It will have 10 major topics I will explain, an introduction, and a conclusion. All the contents of the e-book will be available in the membership area of my website as a course using the OptimizePress theme. I will also write posts for the blog section of my website to target specific long tail keywords to bring more targeted visitors to my site. The price for the e-book/course will probably be $37.

My current plan is to have at least 9,000 words since it is meant to help resolve a very specific problem and I don't want it to have any fluff. It's going to have a ton of images and illustrations to make my explanations as clear, interesting, and memorable as possible. It'll probably end of having about 50 - 60 pages. I will likely go on Elance.com and pay an editor or two to improve it further. I may also use BookBaby.com to have a cover designed for it. This process may take two months. I think my marketing plan will be reasonable since I will use some tips from Jeff Walker, Jay Abraham, Dan Kennedy when it comes to sales letters, niche site blogs, and this forum.

However, as I'm making sure the e-book/course is of high-quality, I also don't want to overdo it and delay the release of this first version longer than necessary. Are all the steps I listed reasonable before I even release this E-book? Do you see a flaw in my plan that I should take a closer look at?

I don't know if you are doing too much or are doing anything unnecessary. If you had to ask here then maybe you are feeling you are doing to much and taking to long to release it. Ultimately you can tell whether you are doing more than needed.

One quick tip when it comes to the ebook is ebooks don't have to be long as long as it is packed with value. I've read five page ebooks on a topic that were more helpful than a 30 page one.

I'll take the tip about e-book length into consideration. I'll make sure not to write more than necessary and aim the e-book towards fixing the specific problem. I never liked books with twice as much fluff as useful content and long, drawn-out stories.

Without knowing your specific market, it is hard to set an expectation. IM'ers are used to seeing a wide variety of quality levels, so high-quality visuals is a bonus point, but the real deciding factor is the quality of the message.

Brick & Mortar business owners are going to expect higher quality. If you are chasing that type of market, make sure your graphics and other factors are excellent.

The bigger unanswered question I saw in your statement was no mention of an OTO, ongoing membership program, or follow-up products. It would be a tragedy to create the book and site without an ongoing income plan in place. You may have those in your plans, but it was not clear.

The more money you plan to charge for ongoing services, materials, etc...the higher the initial quality should be. You want to set their future expectations and then deliver at a high level.

Now, back to your original question...if you have the base content already produced, then two months to get graphics and editing done, sounds long.

I'm still in the writing phase and may finish that within the next week or week and a half. After that, I'll start getting it edited and pay closer attention to graphics.

As far as an ongoing membership plan, I actually do not have one. I know it is important, but everything I have to offer is in the e-book/course. I'm not sure what I can do about that.

To monetize more from this venture, what do you think about me offering someone else's product (related to mine) as a backend product and I get a percentage of each sale? I was thinking of seeking out this plan after the first month or so to work out possible issues I'll become of aware of based on customer feedback.

      Right.

I'd add to this that I didn't see any plan to build a list. This is really important.

Maybe I can offer a free mini-ebook or guide to entice people to signup for my list as they buy my product?

I will also have a blog section of this website where I will offer a free mini-ebook or guide in the right column. Many of my blog posts will be targeted to certain key phrases related to my product.

I would like to have a feel of the market and your targeting potential buyers of your book. Why not write a short teaser and try to pre order it. From the money out of your pre ordering you can buy a nice designed cover

You seem to have a good plan in place. Only I wouldn't worry too much about the planning phase if I were you, I'd just finish the book and then plan its release. And keep an open mind. If plans need to change to improve the product and the launch of it, don't be too rigid. Allow for adjustments to your plan.

I think your steps are very reasonable. The important thing is to finish the book. Once you have that done, building the course around it will be easy.

        Why is yours better?

Where will your customers come from? How will they find you and your promotion?

Is it really a WANTED product? I'd be more concerned about my market and how to reach them, which is why you might want to spend time on your PLAN after getting it written.

You have an ebook. You have a web site. You have WP Optimized. You have everything ready to go.

NOW, at this point, how much is it going to cost you to get a customer?

A lot of planning, maybe more thought about where and how to find your market??

I do know that over 7,000 people search for my targeted key phrase and related key phrases every month. Google Trends also shows that the search results per month have been rising steadily over the last few years. I also know the specific countries and cities that search for my targeted key phrases the most.

After I get a good idea of who the exact demographics my website attracts, I can target people with the most matching attributes using Facebook ads. Using Google AdWords is another option, if need be.

Additionally, there are other traffic building, social media, and backlink strategies I plan on using as well.
