Thought to ask this in the general forum. I have a client who has got a forum. It is a forum for answering questions on programming niche. It already gets 25k visitors per month. He wants to increase it to more. Do you have any ideas how?

Site name is Technical Social Network - QueryHome

    In a word: Content.

That shouldn't be your exclusive consideration, of course, but certainly your primary one. I've had some fairly big forums over the years and it always boils down to content. It gives you self-sustaining traffic.

    Possible solution now:

    1. Pay for forum posters.
    2. Media Buys on Niche-Related Platforms.
    3. Social Networks
    4. List Marketing
    5. Viral Content Marketing

Make sure you trick your forum out with SEO extensions (VBSEO if you have VB) and social integration plugins. You also need to make sure your design is sticky. I've seen forums destroyed that got design wrong (look, speed, forum structure, etc).

It's a big subject but I hope the above has helped somewhat!

You might want to add this into your mix.

Get people to answer questions on Yahoo Answers pointing to your site as the source of the answer, as long as it is.

Your site has some great technical info that people ask about on other answer sites, so you could get the benefit of new eyes learning about your site's expertise in their area of interest.

Your client might have hired the wrong person if you don't know how to do it.

      That's a good one

Anyways, a forum needs a strong cmmunity so people keep coming back to it. So improving the community feeling would be the first thing to do.

You can also check the evolvement of other major forums and see what they do to attract more members. Take an example of this forum what they have changed already with new ownership.

Involve them. Have them co-create a q an a. Find two who have different answers, or different views on the same questions. Nothing rouses attention like a little controversy or a "argument"...you can polarize your audience and still keep them active and attentive members.

Best idea, make it all about THEM. Thank them in ways they don't expect.
