What's The Best Way Of Backing Up Wordpress

Hi

I am creating a blog for a charity and I can't afford to get it wrong. I am not an expert on wordpress by any means so the most important thing for me is to make sure I have solid backups. What is the best software or plugin if I am creating a site that I can't afford to go down and not be able to restore.

I don't mind paying, I just need the most reliable. I am thinking vaultpress or Backup Buddy,.

Any advice would be great. I am not technical and I just need something I can just pretty much set and forget and trust it's doing it's job and if there is an issue with my site I just click a couple of buttons to restore.

Below are the backup softwares I have seen online but what is the best and most reliable?

Side Note: I have been browing around on here and have seen backup creator, Would that be a good option?

1. VaultPress

2. Backup Buddy

3. Backwpup

4. Backupwordpress

5. Updraftplus

6. Duplicator

7. WP-DB-Backup

8. Backup Scheduler

9. Blog Vault

10.Complete Central Backup

11. Myrepono

12. Online backup for wordpress

13. Backup Creator

Man, I use WP-Twin. It works good for me. I don't know about the others though.

There are a lot of different methods, the most important thing is to have more than one method and have backups of the backups, anything can happen, network interruption, incomplete backups, corrupted backup files, what works on one host may not work on another, what worked the last time may not work this time.

the most important thing to remember is to do it slowly.

I recommend Backup Buddy. Get yourself and Amazon S3 account and set it up so that the backup is made locally and then gets sent off to S3 and then deleted from your local store.

If your site isn't too big, do complete backups each time. Backup Buddy will tell you on the WordPress dashboard how many changes have been made to your site when you log in, so you will be reminded to backup manually, even if you don't set up a scheduled backup.

I find this is a good enough method. You might want to practice restoration too. Also remember that when something bad does happen you can't always rely on a backup to save you. It just depends what has gone wrong to cause you to want to rebuild your site.

If for example you'd been hacked, but you din't notice for 3 months, then all your backups for the last three months will contain the hack, so just saying you have to be mindful.

Backup Buddy also contains a malware scan which helps to make this last sceario less likely, and hopefully you are also hosting somewhere where they work to keep your site safe as possible.

Andy simply use this plugin : https://wordpress.org/plugins/wordpr...up-to-dropbox/

So anything if goes wrong on the server you have the files available with you, also in terms of anything if goes wrong on the page you can simply use revisions option that is there for all the posts and page. Simply restore to the date when things were working fine.

For more information about revisions you can find it here : Revisions « WordPress Codex

If you still need a paid service you can ping me.

    Thanks all for your advice.

It really helps. I am surprised no one has mentioned Back Up Creator I found it on here and it seems to have good ratings on here. That was the one I was going to decide on after seeing the reviews on here. Am I missing something? I don't mind spending the money.

i have done this for 10 years, never backed anything up..

    - more time wasted backing up
    - if you can't recreate it faster the second time just drop it. (this is not something for you then, do what you do good) it is like any other sport, job or hobby.
    - to do things over and over.. is good

in other words DON'T backup, if you want to become an expert.

I have had over 200 projects lost in my time, because i didn't backed up, and every time i suprised myself, wow you could do it again, and wow instead of 10 hours, it only took 2 hours this time..

    Have a nice day

(But i can see no-one agree, no-one is and will become a pro, just average)

      This sounds completely logical.

That has to be the most stupid thing I've seen on WF yet.

I use Rsync and can restore a backup in minutes.

You've been here less than a year. Trust me, that won't be the stupidest thing you've seen if you hang around for very long...

I do manual backups with FileZilla.

Here are two great tutorials on manually backing up Wordpress with FileZilla:

A Sound Backup strategy is very important for a money maker site. After testing almost all backup software's....My vote goes with Backupbuddy+Amazon S3 combination....

Thanks for all the input. In the end I have decided to do two things:

    1. I have gone for Vault press as my main backup solution. It's made by the guys that do wordpress.com and akismet and a bunch of other things so for a solid solution I thought they would be a good bet.

    2. I am going to look up some tutorials on how to back up my site manually myself. Thanks AmericanMuscleTA for your suggestions. I will check them out. This will be my second back up solution as a bit of a fail safe.

    Thanks everyone.

      Not Recommended!

My server was hacked a couple years ago.

      I use Backup Creator

Can back up to amazon or where ever - on auto pilot.

I'm using Backup Buddy, but I've also tried Online backup for WordPress and WP-DB-Backup. Another great option is Blog Vault, but you'll have to pay a monthly fee. Assess your budget and decide whether you want a free or a paid plugin. Test several backup solutions until you find one that works best for you.
