Building an Online Portfolio - Sharing Work

I recently started consulting for various agencies and have created an online portfolio of myself which is essentially an "extension" to my resume. I have been complimented on the site occasionally, and I appreciate that there is some good use coming from it. Most people would love to see examples over the phone and I often struggle with presenting it unless I email them while I'm on the phone.

Most recently I was thinking of uploading and showcasing my work online on my website although I want to keep my files in a controlled environment. Most of my work is only presented when I meet with the client due to privacy concerns. However if I can showcase my work online and password the document it would give me the ability to know who I share the password with as well as feel confident that the right people are looking at my work.

I'm concerned that it may look unprofessional, but I feel that most people would understand.

What are your thoughts on the matter?

Am I just simply overanalyzing this whole thing.

Why not just upload them to a dropbox folder and when your clients ask for it just send them the link?
Instead of having your stuff public.

Great Idea, I can do that. Well the reason I thought I can put it on my site is at least show off some of the articles I've written in the past and informational pieces I've put together for companies (upon request of password)

When I meet people in person, they are at awe with my work however it's always after the phone call.

Consulting industry in marketing is a cut-throat job so the more I can show ahead of time the better position it will put me in. I'm just afraid that if I show the work I've produced for other companies in the past, I can get in major trouble and so therefore is why I generally show these things offline and in person. It's mostly articles, whitepapers, infographics, etc..

I can't see any reason that password protecting your site would cause any issues.

I'm sure most people would understand your position, and some might even appreciate the extra level of protection you use when showing others your work.

I like the idea of the website over other solutions since it allows instant access, as well as not needing any peripheral accounts or software.

Thanks so much, glad I wasn't overanalyzing this bit. It makes quite a difference to be able to provide examples on demand.
