Question about Google Keyword Tool

Thanks to the people on this forum I have begun to look at the Google Keyword Tool page and research keywords. I am interested in the Offline business market. I understand that if I want to do a search on a topic i type in the keyword followed by my local area name (example, plumber New York) and then I get a lot of useful information.

BUT, here is my question. What if I just type in the local area name with NOTHING in front of it? I thought this would give me ALL the searches being performed in my area. However, when I try this it gives me very few results, or at least it gives me results with low hits (less than 100 per month) Is my assumption wrong?

    That's strange, I just searched my city and got lots of results.

    Have you tried the Free Wordtracker Keyword Suggestion Tool? Maybe you can see if there is a difference in results.

    Uncle your method is not targeted. You can rank the local area but for better result I think
    you should add "local area" what ever service or products after the "location keywords
    ". For example. "china web hosting" - Reliable. Cheap. Superb. Something similar. Hopes that help

    Uncle Randy,

    Have you tried the search-based keyword tool or just the Adwords Keyword external one?

    Using the search-based one might get you closer to what you're trying to achieve.

    If you haven't used it yet you can find it here. Actually even if you have used it before you can still find it there!
