have i made the typical newbie mistake?

Hi!, i'm still relatively new to the internet marketing scene, but i'm a quick learner, i'm in the process of creating a site and blog in the "make money online" niche (easypeasymoney.co.uk)... but the more i think about it, i keep getting this feeling that i've jumped into it head first, surely it's the toughest niche to succeed in.Is this a common mistake that everyone makes? i've only purchased a domain so it's not really a financial loss, and i've learned LOTS, should i chalk this down to learning and move on, or do you think that there's a chance of a newbie doing it? comments?, thoughts? Is this going to be a 'follow me to success' type site? I'm just asking because I think it will be hard for you to convince people that making money online is "easy peasy" unless you can speak from experience.

I have heard of several sites that are the webmaster's basic, step-by-step journal toward working online. Those seem to work well - other people that are newcomers and seasoned IMers alike enjoy following along. That offers an opportunity for them to learn from your mistakes as well as your successes.

In the end you can create a product from your journey - whether you reach your goals or not. It would still be a learning experience for you and for anyone following your blog.

Just a thought - maybe that wasn't what you were looking for???

Doing a "Make money online" website is definitely a lot more harder to succeed in for newbie. You can try those new release "Make Money program" where there are not much affiliate yet. In this niche, you must do a lot of research.

Chazmer. You have chosen a niche with tons and tons of competition. You would do better to narrow your focus with a "make money online" niche... Like...
    article marketing
    free affiliate programs
    network marketing
    social media

And even those are still too broad. In order to make money online you need two things. You need tons of targeted leads and you need to be able to generate cash flow while you're building your business.

DM me if you want some free tips on this topic.

Cool layout..but since you are a beginner, I don't think it would be right for you. Like someone said, you can't really speak from experience to make a sale. Try to start with being an affiliate for a product you actually used, like and would recommend to others.

I would definitely get a new domain name. Something that is memorable and good for your brand.

And if you want to go global with this niche, buy a .COM domain instead of a local one.

I used to think *I* had to be "the expert" on whatever I sold, so I only created products in my areas of expertise.

Then I realized that marketing is about bringing someone who wants something with someone who has that something-wanted... and *I* don't have to be the creator of the something-wanted.

That said, the best advice I can give you as a newbie is KEYWORD RESEARCH.

Search then Study this forum for tons and tons of great advice, strategies, and techniques.

      Hope that helps!

      Best,
      David

I started in a similar way to you 4 years ago.

I too tried to make a product in the make money niche but didn't have much success because my knowledge was lacking.

I changed my tactics and tried selling click bank products and paydotcom products into niche markets with much more success.

Only now 4 years later am I confident the knowledge I have im able to sell into the make money niche.

    I hope that helps...

Ok, I'm going to go 'against the grain' and tell you that you made a fine choice.

Only two factors really play into it at all.

1.) It's about 'research.' If you can research 'how to' do anything and write coherently in a way that people respond to, then you can sell your interpretations of your research.

2.) It's about timing. I read a book today, on a subject I had no knowledge of. I had a friend who was an expert in the topic read the same book. She thought it was 'old rehashed information.' But since I never read anything about this info, for me, it was completely new. I happened to have found it when I started looking for it.

I look at it this way: Pretty much, 'marketing' is 'taught' in college business classes all the time. The foundation stays the same, yet each year, new crops of students pay their tuition fees to learn the same business and marketing basics that last years students learned, and no one is telling the professors that they don't have the right to be teaching it.

uhm...this might be really tough. I would rather go with a smaller micro niche instead of diving into this one.

I agree. Such a big niche would be tough for the pros as well.. Try with something smaller first

It's a difficult call ... lots of newbies dives straight into the IM niche but being new to it doesn't necessarily mean you'll fail against the strong competition.

It will all come down to the quality of your site, the personality you bring to it and the commitment and passion. If you are prepared to work your butt off with it, posting great stuff up there, there is no reason why after time you couldn't begin to build a name for yourself within the niche.

The big question you've got to ask yourself right now at the beginning, is do you have the knowledge (or at least the ability to gain the knowledge) to start making great posts and do you have the patience to sit it out waiting for that to pay off.

I've done the same thing. I get excited about a domain name that I've thought up and buy it without doing any research. Just look at my signature. Too late now! I think I'm stuck with them for 3 years.
I found that the important thing is to do keyword research, pick a domain name with your keyword(s) in it and make sure you have your keywords in the <title> tag and the <meta description> tag on your web site.

It does look like you are off to a great start with your site. I would keep moving forward with it if you feel confident - for me IM is more difficult than other niches though.

I would be honest in my posts - I would explain that I was new/relatively new to working online and that your goal is to make xxxx amount of dollars by the end of the year.

It is true that you don't have to be an expert in a field to write about it. But when it comes to IM it is usually pretty easy to tell a newcomer from someone that has been around for awhile. After all, there are so many different aspects to IM that learning it all at once is almost impossible. I think that is where the information overload comes from as well as the project hopping.

People respect initiative, ambition, and drive. Seeing it in you can inspire them so they will continue to follow your posts. Your success gives them hope for their own progress. That doesn't have to be the main focus of your site but you need to remember from the start that you are building an online reputation. Anything that you put out there is there virtually forever. Your credibility is important when it comes to customers and subscribers for the long term.

I wish you nothing but success - your site looks good.

I guess what i was trying to do is answer your question as politely as possible. Although your web site looks great I just don't see anyone doing a Google search for "easypeasy".

Can you position yourself as an expert in some aspect of the money making field that you are contemplating entering or can you" credentialize" your site with an experts column or endorsement? Perhaps an expert from the brick and mortar world would be pleased to work with you. To do so will enhance believability and you may find that obtaining endorsements or contributions from existing experts is easier than you might think. I have done so several times.
