Is it possible to sell my entire business (not just a website)?

I did a search and did not see any discussion of this, so I hope someone can offer advice.

I have an established online business with couple dozen websites. My business currently is consistently making about $200k-$250k in sales each year, with profits of about $150k a year. (I can verify these figures with tax returns and accounting records.)

How much would a business like this be worth to a potential buyer?

What would be the best way to go about selling my business? What's involved in the process? How can I make sure I get top dollar for it?

I guess dealing with customer service issues (refund requests, etc.) day in and day out is getting me down, but I'm just tired of dealing with this business every day. I would love to move onto new things. Thank you for any advice anyone can offer.

John

I'll buy it for a dollar.

No, seriously, go to sitepoint and sites like that, they have a whole section for selling businesses. I would check there first.

But I'm serious about the dollar thing

My advice is keep your business running, but hire employees for handling those customer issues. So you can more focus on what you wanna do while your business keep running.
    Just my two-cents

I could do all that for you, while listening to my audiobooks on my ipod

I think you would get more for your business if you go for a more traditional offline sale, instead of approaching people already in the online marketing world.

Maybe you could even approach a big offline business in the same niche as your business. They would want it as a huge online asset.

I'm with the others on this one. How about outsourcing some of the load so you can still reap the profits of an automated business?

I've never sold a complete business so I've no advice to offer on the pricing.

However, you can take a look around BizBuySell - The Internet's Largest Business for Sale & Franchise for Sale Marketplace and see what amount businesses are selling for. I'd guess there are many factors that determine a complete business' sale.

    Best of luck

as a very ROUGH valuation guide the business would be worth 3 times the yearly revenue.

however that depends on certain things. for example, is this business easily transferable to someone else? i.e. are there systems in place already or does the majority of the business depend on you personally working on it?

a lot of internet businesses are that way, it's one person going at it... how do you transfer that over to a buyer?

not saying your business is like that, but just one of the factors that goes into valuation.

    good luck.

I think it would be no problem selling your business online if you find the right buyer.

If you don't mind me asking, why you want to sell your business if it's profit is good?If you're gaining profit through it then why not keep it running.

I second that question. Just hire some people to run it for you if you are too busy..
