Almost my entire business has been built - across 9 different niches, now - with free traffic. I'm an article marketer. It's the best, most responsive, most monetizable type of traffic I've ever had. By a big margin.

In the past, I've had some paid advertising traffic, too (PPC), and it was perfectly ok, viable and profitable, but still nowhere near as good as article marketing traffic, for me.

In a way, no traffic is "free traffic", really: you're just paying with time and work and skills, instead of with money, aren't you?

I find the same result. Articles, no matter how I distribute them, yield the best results. I began seeing this an awfully long time ago and soon incorporated them into most aspects of my business; whether I'm utilizing my own websites, social networks, other websites, etc, I always prefer an article to be the final doorway between the prospect and the product.

Cool to see this is still working despite all of the Google changes. I'll up the ante in that case! Thanks all for the +Articles advice.

It always depends on the type of traffic per say, but generally free traffic for me tends to be from social media. If used right, it can be great but you have to watch out for un-targeted traffic because that gets nowhere.

You can make a practically infinite level of income from free sources. I use them all as well as paid sources. One thing about free traffic: the buzz you get from generating a big income is much higher than when you shell out for media buys. Saying all that, though, does totally free traffic actually exist. If you consider the time element and opportunity cost, every traffic source has a price. To answer your question, though: Youtube, Facebook, Forums, Twitter, and so on and so on send me traffic and make me money and they should do the same for you.

Hi Shani99, you do 'pay' for Free Traffic one way or the other. I have found that free traffic methods are valuable but slow if you are now launching your sites. So in a few of my sites I use paid traffic methods which are fast, scalable and consistent. 'Fast is of paramount importance to me.

I have already used free traffic and they are really effective. In my point of view free traffic has low bounce rate. So, if you have adsense, then free traffic is more effective than paid traffic. Forums, blogs, Facebook, Youtube these are good source of free traffic.

I think your best answer is to have a combination of both.

But if someone had a knife to my throat and told me which to pick I would beyond a shadow of a doubt choose Paid traffic. 100 percent.. End of story for me.

All the way around it has proven for me HUGELY and I mean HUGELY more profitable and allowed me more valuable time to pursue other more important things (imo) ( like writing email copy and corresponding with List)

Looking back on it and all the time wasted in getting free traffic ( this is in my case and in my opinion) through SEO and other means was well....it was just a flat out waste of time.

Obviously many other people have many other experiences where they have had great success with Article Marketing and SEO. I know this to be fact

But all I can say is what I have experienced and I know many others have experienced it as well

Free traffic it works perfectly if you still work on it on a solid base.

You need to think to a traffic strategy and get stuck on it.

Youtube is a great source of traffic and easy to rank for if you create interesting videos.

Also twitter is great, I don't know what your readers topics is, but searching for the topics and getting involved in the conversation is a good way to get traffic.

If they blog they just need to be consistent, writing 3/ 4 posts per week, make the traffic grows. Obviously more the contents are quality contents, more the results in sharing on social drive more traffic.

The difference between the free and the paid traffic is timing.

To make a blog to grow, you need months, paid traffic gives you immediate results.

    Hi,

FREE traffic costs TIME and time equals money right.

Paid traffic gives you fast traffic, fast results YOU can them MEASURE!

    The numbers never lie.

And then this gives you a clear picture of what parts of your funnel etc need
to be worked on and what needs to be dumped.

You can add in free traffic methods as you move forward.

If you have time use them.

But don't rely on them alone.

I get traffic and build my lists from my blog, YouTube videos, guest blog
    posts etc.

All good but these take time.

Paid traffic gives you a much faster route to filtering out what people
don't want and what they do want.

That's the end result you want.

Give others what they want and need and then charge them for it.

    All the best,

    Gavin

Hmm, briefly: free traffic ROCKS cause it's free. Paid traffic ROCKS cause you can scale into the sky!!

Now obviously when starting out free traffic is the way to go. But paid traffic is the only way you can truly grow your business sky-high.

Most people have a bad idea about what paid traffic is. Let me give you an example. Normal solo ad clicks cost $0.35. But then you have those clicks that cost as much as $1 a click. 99% of people would say 'What the hell how expensive, crazy!!!'. BUT. If I can make $2 for every one of those $1 clicks, I'd buy them all day long.

My point is, it's important to remember that it's all about ROI. If you can make a profit on your investment, why not invest?

tl;dr Paid traffic for the win.

Interesting! Where can I find these solo ad click offers?

35 cents per click.... 100 clicks is $35.

If I could sell a $100 product to a targeted audience at a 1:100 conversion rate, I would net $65 for every $35 outlay?

Is that how it works? Or would you use paid solo ads to direct them to a squeeze page to get them to subscribe to your list? (Paying $100 to buy a fixed number of email subscribers?)

Well, not necessarily a squeeze page, per se (though most people do), but an opt-in page, anyway. You start with list-building, anyway: this is the point.

Originally Posted by hyderkhan View Post

Effectively, if your opt-in page conversion-rate remains constant, yes; you can work out roughly how many subscribers you'll be buying for your $100 or whatever, and then you'll work out separately what a subscriber is worth to you, on average, over a period of time (which needs to be more than you're effectively paying for them, for the thing to be worth doing, naturally).

There are also marketers who try to sell to them at the same time as they're trying to opt them in. I don't advise it. And there are marketers who try to make an immediate sale right after they've submitted their email address, in the (typically mistaken) belief that they're actually gaining something by doing that (more often they're gaining nothing at all, because the very few immediate sales are to people who would have bought a week later anyway, while the cost is that many of the ones who don't also don't open the subsequent emails, so it can easily devalue the whole list, overall.)

        .

Free traffic works, the bad thing about it is that it takes a lot of time to start getting momentum. Not only that when you're starting out you need to make sure you're not just doing blog post and videos for fun, but keyword optimized so you can rank them as well so other people can find you.

One of my first mistakes was that I was just writing to write and it wasn't catching on fast enough nor was I getting the exposure or free traffic that I needed.

Once I started focusing on ranking my post and videos as well as syndicating them I started to gain traction

To increase the amount of traffic to your page, you either need time or money. It is up to you which one that you want to use.

The best free sources of traffic

Forums - Such as WarriorForum and other forums that deal with your niche. You can run a search on google.

Social Media Networks-You can grow your followers and give good content and information, and also direct your friends and followers to your website.

Craigslist-You can post in the classifieds section or the business opportunity section about your product you are trying to market. You can also post in their discussion board under whatever section your niche is in.

Solo Ad Swaps-If you already have a list, you can find someone else with a list and have them send out an email with your link to their list, in return for you doing the same for them.

The best sources of paid traffic

Solo Ads-You can pay someone that has plenty of leads to send out an email with your link so that you can gain some of their leads. You can find people with soloads on warrior forum, google, etc. Just make sure you do research before you use them. You may also want to only buy a small amount of leads at first, and if they are official then you could add them to your list of people you can purchase solo ads from.

Facebook Ads-You can pay facebook to target the people who are most likely in your market with your advertisement. This can draw plenty of people to your site depending on your budget and traffic keywords.

There's no such a thing - "free traffic". The free traffic methods takes time and time is more valuable than money. So use instead paid traffic methods because is very scalable and profitable if its done correctly.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[9529735].message }}
  • Profile picture of the author Esteban Gomez
I think the same as ronny89, there is not such thing as free traffic because if you spend time writing blog posts to get traffic from the search engines you are spending your most valuable asset (time) and time = money.

Search engine traffic can be very very good if it is targeted.

You don't need as much traffic as you probably think to make your blog profitable.

The most important thing is that your traffic is targeted.

Once you have targeted traffic your conversions are going to be much higher because you are giving to people what they are looking for.

Also, search engine traffic is going to take a while to get compared to paid traffic but in the long run it is a very good investment.

    Cheers!

Free traffic takes a lot of time which makes it not worth my time. I personally prefer PPC, but if you cannot afford that at the moment I guess you can make some youtube videos to drive traffic to whatever you are trying to promote or sell.

If forced to choose, I'd go with paid. There are so many inexpensive, decent paid traffic sources these days.

You just need to ensure your monetization is tweaked so that it's profitable. Once you do that, even for just one URL/squeeze page and email autoresponder, you're set. Just buy as much traffic as you can.

I would say it depends on how aggressively you want to carry things on. My recommendation is not to think that any traffic is free as google or any search engine is not going to send traffic to your site just because you created the site as it requires some contribution of effort and time getting the word out. Use a mix of paid traffic and seo and try and follow simple but inexpensive ways of marketing your site, like a few articles a week, a few videos that add value, social bookmarking, signature links from forums (make sure you add value). This should give you a rough idea of which way you are heading to in a month or two.
