Help please..I need to capture on screen tutorials and webinars.

I am looking to acquire a good screen recording device (Not Camtasia) to record 1 to 3 hour webinars and tutorial videos. Can anyone recommend something that won't break the bank?

Somebody mentioned 'screencast-o-matic' but not sure if it will do the job.

Any suggestions will be helpful...thanks.

  • It would help if you let us know if you are PC or Mac. If you are Mac, Screenflow is great and is only $99.

    • Sorry I should have said.....it's Windows 7
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • The free version will only allow a 15-minute recording. But the paid ($15/yr) has unlimited.

Sounds like a decent alternative to Camtasia to me!

    • I use Screencast-O-Matic and it works fine for me making screen tutorials and at $15 a year is a bargain.

  • To recommend alternatives I'd first need to know why Camtasia is not an option?

What don't you like about it? Ie: What are you looking for that Camtasia does not have?

    • It's the cost...I can't justify over £200 just for recording webinars etc. Screencast-o-matic wins.
  • Camstudio maybe?

    • I have to edit this post. BEWARE of free downloads. They load malware onto your computer that you may not be able to get off easily. Best bet is to go pay for some software in a brick and mortar.
  • Screenflow is the other option

    Though I use Camtasia Personally
  • One that most people don't know about, but is excellent, is Blueberry Software's BB Flashback.

They have both a free and a pro version. The Pro adds some nice features for editing and saving in more formats. This is my "go-to" software for doing screen shot videos.

You can read more about it here: BBSoftware
  • If you have a Mac, quicktime will do. I do all my screen recordings directly with quicktime and it is super easy. Just open quicktime, right click on the icon and select screen recording
