Client bough an image from shutter stock -- it's an .eps file.

Gimp won't open it. I want to some how convert it to jpg or something -
- hopefully keeping it high resolution.

Any ideas?

  • An EPS shouldn't be resolution dependant as it's a vector format.

So it won't change resolution (Unless it's an image embedded in an EPS file).

You could download illustrator demo to open the file and export from there.

Adobe creative cloud means you can use Photoshop or any of it's products for a few $$ per month.

  • Hi TW,

Inkscape is free and works with eps files. But if you're not used to working with vector images, you will probably be in for a bit of a learning curve.

I think Inkscape can export as bitmap ("regular") image formats, so you may be able to open the eps file in Inkscape, then save it as a png.

  • Inkscape will export as PNG as well
Open office has a vector drawing program too that seems to be a bit quicker than inkscape.

  • Open office should open that file.

  • Yeah illustrator is free for thirty days. Download directly from the adobe website.
