Protecting Content On Amazon S3

Hi,

I have a members site and the documents/videos etc are hosted on Amazon s3 (long story but basically Vimeo didnt work).

Im happy with the site, but ive noticed a major security flaw. You can just right-click "save page" and you can download that members area page with the video or worksheet included and then in theory are free to send that file around the internet.

Please can someone help me as to what my options are. Can you make wordpress pages "unsaveable"? Can I put passwords on all my videos individually on Amazon s3? It appears not. Ive heard about expiring URl's and the like but not sure how to do any of that.

I would appreciate your help.

Thanks

If the human eye can see it, it can be captured or saved, regardless of any security measures.

    Thanks Gene,

I appreciate this is always going to be an issue. But still will be good to solve these issues. And make it harder for people to potentially post my training videos to forums etc. At least harder for them than just copying and pasting my page. Might as well not even bother having a membership option

It's not that bad if people share your products online , it happened to me almost everytime but i don't care it's just the way it is, and sometimes it helps you get recognition also some people might buy when then found out your product deserves to be paid for.

Thanks Bassem. That's good optimistic thinking. I guess the issue for me is, say there are 30,000 potential people out there in the world that my product is perfect for. Uniquely tailored and that is my maximum efficiency if I manage to find them and target them. They are ready and willing to give me cash in exchange for services. And these people all move in similar circles. Then some lowlife gives all my unprotected links to my videos on a major forum in that niche and everyone watches them it could kill my business.

I know that's worst case scenario but I don't think I'll ever accept people ripping me off. I know there are always ways but just want as many barriers in place to at least feel more in control

Pop over to Amazon, go to the Kindle marketplace, and search "Amazon S3". They have several free guides that might help you out.

That said, Gene is right. Someone determined to steal will find a way to steal.

Thanks everyone for your help. I found a way to make the video links expire and create new links regularly so it solves the issue I had of people just emailing around my links.

I know there are still issues like people just recording the screen but I can live with that for now

Are you making the pages accessible to members only? If not, try using a member plugin like wishlist or get a theme that allows access to videos only from paid members and locks the code.

Do they save the page once logged in or, it is possible to steal the content while they are not members?

If that you need to change the membership plugin.

Also why don't think to a second video "that they can steal" with only the first 5 mins and then an adv that said, "If you want to see the entire video, go here: ...."

In this way, maybe they think to steal the video, but they are only sread your url around.
