Hi Warriors!

What do you think is the most important rule in Online Marketing that every webmasters should follow?

Mine I thinks is being TRANSPARENT. We are on a virtual world, which means we connect to people through internet. For us to be successful and ahead, we need to be transparent in every way possible. Building trust virtually is for me the best way to gain your audience loyalty.

How about you? What do you think?

Transparency is very important but difficult to achieve. If you are referring to rules regarding your customers, yes I would agree, you need to be as honest and open to them as you reasonably can be whilst building your business. But being transparent within a world that is the opposite is extremely hard. The 21st century brags about being transparent, but it cherry picks what it wants to be open about and what it wants closed off to the masses.

On a smaller scale it will only work if we have a level playing-field and free market place. There is far too much underhand (and bordering criminal) manipulation from the likes of Google, Facebook and the rest of the crowd, that spits in the face of the individual marketer.

      I like this.

Additionally I think it is important to understand people. Each click and pageview represents a person taking an action, not just a number on the screen.

That person has needs and desires and fears and problems.

What does that person want? How can you help them?

Understand this and take action and you're on the right route.

I have 3 main rules in my life as a full time internet marketer that I believe will be the key to my success one day

    1. Take Action! - You can study from the gurus, do training, know what to do but never do it. This happens to lots of people trying to make a living in the industry and then they give up.
    2. Honest & Helpful - If you build your business around these attributes, building new profitable relationship will come a lot easier and be long lasting.
    3. Learn and perfect the art of List Building (This one is in progress for me personally)

Communicate effectively with your target customers in the methods expected.

    Two important pionts here:

    1. Many people choose marketing methods they have "heard" work well for others, but for which they are not particularly well suited. Ask yourself, "When do people connect and engage the most with me..." Could be around written content, video, seminars, 1:1 coaching, copywriting/ads, etc... Align your strength and reach your audience in the most effective way for you.

    2. Make sure your chosen method of marketing is up to date. Ex. many websites that may have been effective in the past are not yet optimized for mobile when their traffic is now heavily coming from mobile. Another example, paid ads still using just Google Adwords when Facebook ads or 'dark posts" could be much more effective and improve ROI substantially.

Depends on your point of view.

As a webmaster (the way you phrase the question) - keep your site maintained - a dead site attracts no readers.
As a marketer - Keep your offers current and be honest with your customers.
As a blogger - Give value to your readership.

Kind of similar famous investment philosophy: buy fear, sell greed - promotes the idea that we should be buying stocks when everyone else is fearful of the market (buying at a low price) and selling stocks when everyone is excited about the market and expects it to keep going up!

          My Rule #1

You have to sell something to make money.

So many people want to have money yet they doodle and dabble all day long doing things that don't contribute to the actual selling.

Of course, there is much that goes into selling online, many of the things mentioned in this thread would be included.

    Be consistent.
For what is my opinion no matter what kind of product you sell or what kind of person you are. If you trust in your product and you are consistent you will succeed.

I think the same as Borsaronero.

Consistency is the most important thing everybody should focus on.

It doesn't matter what is your strategy to get people into your email list but you have to be consistent and not give up if you want to get results.

If you are doing Blogging/SEO then do a post daily, if you are doing video marketing create a video daily, etc.

It doesn't matter what you do, it's how you do it.

Motivate yourself daily, be consistent and the results will follow.

    Cheers

My two rules: love, understand and appreciate data. It just makes for better decisions.

My second rule: Understand - and I mean REALLY understand - principles of marketing. Why something works, something doesn't. You've got to figure out the psychology behind selling before you even ENTER this market.

Far too many marketers just go through the motions without ever figuring out why they are doing what they are doing

For me, the #1 rule is to TAKE ACTION.

Everyday, you just need to focus and make something happen. Get started...make a blog, finish that opt-in page, make a video, write an article. Always be moving forward.

I think most important is understanding your target audience who read your blog and what benefit you can give to them, being extremely useful for them in any way is the key to hooking the audience.

if you are entertaining people do it best, if you are giving info pour your heart out , if you are giving advice give it as best as you can that is to me online marketing...

Forget about this whole transparency thing - It's about giving people what they want. Simple. People don't care who you are they care about the goods you have in supply for them, people are selfish and do not care about you. We live in a ME ME ME world. That's actually psychology and right out of Dale Carnegie.

For example, if I have a brand new iPhone 6 for sale, do you think the buyer gives a damn about who I am as long as the product is solid. I rest my case.

Be honest. Not to many things annoy me more than "bait and switch" tricks or liars. Don't tell me something cost 19.99, and then tell me if I really want to make money I need to upgrade to the 99.99 option. <---Just one example.

Work to improve and learn something new every day. That new idea might not be a game changer, but over time all of the knowledge adds up.

Residual Income. I try to only promote things that make people pay continually. Otherwise you will be doing more recruiting.

I also try to find something that I would use, even if I could not get a commission for it. If I can't honestly promote it as a useful product or service, then I don't promote it. It is also a lot easier to sell something someone can use, than to sell them another way to make money.

This is so close to being right, it's dangerous. If this were true, I could still build a list by posting in newsgroups, adding my site to Free For All pages and joining banner exchanges, as long as I did it consistently.

(For the newbies in the crowd, all three of those strategies quit working over a decade ago.)

I'd modify this advice to "find something that actually works, and keep doing it until it doesn't, but keep trying new things, too."

One of my mentors taught the importance of the SDA, the Single Daily Action. What one thing could you do daily that, if you did nothing else, would still advance your business?

        Find it and do it.

Again, so close to being right as to be dangerous.

Part of that me, me, me thing is a deep desire to not look foolish. You're part right, they don't care about you, but they do care whether they think you'll rip them off or not.

Let's say I'm in the market for that iPhone 6. I care about you to the extent that I believe you can deliver what you promise. I don't care if you love kittens and babies, but I do care that I can trust you to deliver the phone and not disappear with my money.

Letterman tells a joke about ordering a new iPhone 6 and getting two iPhone 3's.
