Question about links on Squidoo

Hi Warriors,

Since Squidoo is allowing only up to 9 links coming from the same domain, does these 9 links include those links in our Bio Portion of the lens (upper right side)?

Thanks,
Michael

    Michael,

From what I understand, it's 9 links to the same domain from the lense as a whole. That would include the bio area too. You can read about it here:

    NEWSFLASH! A Squidoo Policy Update

Although the bio area isn't specifically addressed, the implication is still there ... 9 links to your domain. That's it. There may be more info over at the SquidU forum, though.

    HTH,

    Thanks, Jeff.

Does this mean if I'm promoting an affiliate product, I could use a redirect link coming from 27 links (3 domains, with 9 redirect links per domain)?

    Thanks,
    Michael

It's not clear based on what I've gathered from Squidoo's update but my gut feeling would be...no!

Doubtful. I'm just speculating here, but I would think their first filter would be the sheer volume of links coming from one lense. Then, a link check ... either auto or manual. You'd pretty much be attracting intense scrutiny and throwing up red flags.

Why bother? Instead of trying to "game" the system, why not go the simple route:

      1. If you have a good lense, revamped to play by their new rules, and it gets blocked ... ask them to manually review it. If OK, you are free of the limit on links.

      2. Become a Giant Squid (see site for full details) - You automatically get to use unlimited links. No muss, no fuss.

Bottom line is, Squidoo is cracking down on spammers and doing some heavy blacklisting this Summer. By this Fall, they'll have a much more powerful site in Google's eyes. Possibly much higher ranking in the SERPs overall.

I'd rather just improve my content and be a part of it, than fight with someone's spam filters all day. Will save a lot of time IMHO.

As far as I'm concerned you really don't need any more the 3 links on your squidoo lens, as long as your content is good and your call to action is written well. IMHO!

      Well put, sir.

Squidoo is putting in this limit on links to restrict the number of lenses that are all "buy buy buy", with dozens of links throughout the content. 9 links should be more than enough to promote a product.

(HubPages only allows 2 links, so count yourself lucky).
