How to securely deliver digital products to customers?

My product package has 2 ebooks, a 60-minute audio mp3 and a series of five short videos.

Can you tell me the best way to deliver these products securely to my customers so that the general public can't access them?

Thanks for your help.

  • You can use amazon S3. That's what a lot of members here use.

    • There are plenty of ways...

Membership sites, via email with links to private youtube videos, as a WSO here at the Warrior Forum, and even really complex solutions - scripts with all of the 'content lockdown' bells and whistles so that NO ONE outside of your customers will be able to access those pages...

It just comes down to how you want to do it, your budget and you tolerance for messing with different technologies.

Keep in mind - even if you lock down your pages like Fort Knox, that still doesn't mean your content can't be stolen...

Save yourself the hassle. If you are just starting out, go with a super-simple solution:

Have your customers access your content via a Password Protected Wordpress page - done. End of story.

  • I personally don't sell digital products but this is how Pat Flynn does it and he is an expert.

  • Have a look at DLGuard. Yes, it costs. But it's an excellent way to protect your download pages and deliver your product. Very flexible too. Direct link: DLGuard - Download page protector, create expiring download links

    • There is a FREE Wordpress plugin that will help you sell & securely distribute your digital downloads that I am currently looking at myself. It's called:

      Easy Digital Downloads

There are a boat load of addons & integration features that make the distribution & sales of your digital assets easy. Which is why I am currently looking at it.

  • it's critical to have IP-tracking/expiring download links so people don't share the link online.

DLGuard is great; as is password-sentry.com

    • Can you explain bit bout IP-tracking/expiring downloads. How to do it?

      thanks.
  • A download section visible to your customers only and protected by password is good approach.
  • All you need, is to create an account here : Instabuck ยป The fastest way to sell digital goods online , zero commissions per sale, many payment gateways, and secure 100% .

  • Use membership plugins such as Wishlist, InstaMember, S2Member, etc. Though, your ebook is still shareable by your members unless you use something like Viral Boomerang "LOCK DOWN". I don't know how to make it works with Wordpress but if you are using HTML based website then i think this will be a useful tool.

I do with Wish List Member for products that are larger, like video or audio. I do it with DLGuard for smaller products.

  • DL Guard is a great and very secure solution.

There are other solutions as mentioned above but I have used DL Guard and it satisfies my security concerns.

Link: DLGuard - Download page protector, create expiring download links (not an affiliate link)
  • At the moment I just send all my customers to a website with the download link, not much security however, my products are under $10 ...
  • Why not use a shopping cart like opencart, magento etc which offer digital products also. You can also limit the downloads in days or in attempts.

  • Here's another tip: For all your download pages, make sure you set them so they are not indexed by Google. That way someone can't do a search for "(yourproductname) download page", etc.

To do this, add the following code inside the <head> tags of the download page:
  • Anytime someone gets their hand on a digital product they can email it all over creation or put it up on file sharing sites.

It's like patching igloos in the Sahara desert. Nothing really works long-term.
  • You are not using any e-commerce platform? As they provide option to sell downloadable products and let users download after paying for it.

For other cases you can send a temporary link to your customers that expires after sometime but this make customer go mad when they loose these file somehow in future as there will be no way to retrieve this online,
  • Razor 18: With dlguard (and presumably other similar products) you can set a time limit for the buyer to download their purchase or set a maximum number of download attempts before the download link "expires".
  • I ,myself am looking into this option also. Is sending the customer a link to drop box or similar sites a good idea? That way only your customers know where the download material is, or is it simply better to go with ejunkie.com?
  • I personally feel that Gumroad is the best option

It allows you to sell to your customers directly, they don't get taken off of your website. It works by triggering a modal which is has the best design of any cart system by far, they make the payment by filling in literally the bare minimum of like 2-3 form fields and then get taken to your product.

Fast and easy to setup, pricing is really good too.

The only issue is that they don't have an affiliate program and if that is essential I would go with ejunkie or jvzoo in that case.
