Filezilla has a virus what do you guys use

My AVG stopped me when I downloaded Filezilla. It seems it has a Trojan, probably from one of the advertisers. What do you guys use for ftp? I've been using Filezilla so long I have no experience with anything else.

Do you download it directly from the official Website of Filezilla?

I use Filezilla and have for years - I run scans all the time and haven't got any trojans from Filezilla - did you download it from somewhere other than here:

Either a false positive or a bad download. FileZilla is also open source which gives me more confidence than every MS or Apple program.

If its AVG free you have more chance of knitting fog than catching a real virus. Same for Mcafee and Norton shit, not worth the code theyre written with..

As I work in IT anyway theres 2 roads to take. Free antivirus or Paid.

Free I would use Avira normally and do a quick scan with Malwarebytes monthly or so. If you find anything suspicious then do a full system scan. After first install though do a full scan to touch base.

Paid I would use Kaspersky internet security suite. Its £36 or there abouts on their site but if you go to www aria co uk. Also get 2013 as it updates anyway to the 2014 spec. (theyre safe, ive been there and bought kks worth of IT stuff) you can get it in OEM form for around £12 - £20 depending on how many licences you want. Same here though if it looks suspicious Malwarebytes for a second scan.

Reason why I list both ways is because some customers wont buy any antivirus so they are the most trialled and tested in the service centre.

Norton,AVG free and Mcafee can be on a machine until Malwarebytes is run all claiming your protected. Then as Malwarebytes finds things the latter suddenly decide they have found things too.

My record for an AVG free detections with a Malwarebytes scan is 26,000+ infections.

Dont forget this is based on what I and the others in the place use and there are other very good products out there too.

I've also used Filezilla for quite a while now and it always works like a charm for me. Make sure that you download it from the official website. You probably got the trojan while downloading it from another source, rather than downloading it from: filezilla-project.org

I've never had a problem with Filezilla over the years and AVG is notorious for false positives.

Did you download it off of the official Filezilla website or through a 3rd party? If you downloaded it from another website, there's always a chance it could have an actual virus if that website is placing malware in the program.

I use Avast and Housecall for anti-virus. Both seem to be pretty accurate on catching things.

Virus or not, I prefer Cyberduck (https://cyberduck.io/).

Not only does it play well with Amazon S3 and other cloud services (in addition to the usual FTP/SFTP mumbo jumbo), but much, much, much more importantly...

      It has a great name.

Yeah downloaded it from Filezilla which sent me to Sourceforge. I suspect a new advertiser. It will probably clear up in a day or two. In the meantime someone was kind enough to PM me and show me the Windows Explorer trick. I had to use my old username instead of the full domain name you can now use to log into, but once I figured that out it was great. The power and ease of Windows Explorer connected to your website.Wonder if I could make that a permanent link?

Filezilla is solid, I have been using it for years. Maybe it's the download site or maybe something got hacked somewhere but they are trustworthy.

I downloaded it from Cnet.com and it seems pretty clean. This site supposedly scans all the software on their site for viruses which is why I like it.

FileZilla has no viruses, it is widely used and recommended, you should be careful where you download it from, I personally dislike AVG and I don't use it.

Some alternatives are Total Commander and WinSCP, both are widely used and recommended.
