What is Tracking and why do we need to do it?

So I just got started with affiliate marketing,

I've been reading everywhere that I need to track my campaigns.

I really don't understand this concept.

What is tracking202 exactly? What does it do?

Btw, I only do paid traffic, if that's relevant.

p.s. I wasn't sure which category to post this- apologies if this is in the wrong place

One of the better online explanations can be found at the Adtrackz Gold website... take a look at their sales page, and they'll explain it.

In essence, you need to know what's working, and what's not.

    I track everything...

In fact, if you come to my website from this post I will know (hysterical laugh in the background)

Seriously, if you want to run a successful online business, you need to track and analyze everything you're doing, so you can be the most productive.

Good tracking can mean the difference between making money... and losing it...

      I understand this concept.

Split testing will allow you to maximise the amount of customers you acquire per dollar of expense.

      Yes, yes, very important.

      But here me out,

I use Crakrevenue and TrafficJunky right now.

I see the impressions and clicks on each of my ads on traffic junk.

And I see the conversion rate from visitor to lead in Crakrevenue using tracking tags.

Why would I need to use tracking202?

Will it increase the accuracy, convenience? Does it do something that I'm not aware of?

I use TJ before and was not crazy about their platform to be honest and camps would still run long after I paused them but anyhow... Do you not want to know which creatives generated those clicks so you can stop paying to run others? Wouldn't you like to know which LP worked better? What browser the user was on or their location? Mobile phone or tablet? If you want to get ahead you will need the ability to run quick reports that can cover a months worth of traffic.

My point is that the data you can track is endless, my personal opinion if you want to take this serious get a legit tracking solution. Most people recommend CPV Lab, I never tried it but I used iMobitrax for a while. It is an amazing product with great support and I am sure it has gotten even better since I stopped using it but a word of caution it is NOT cheap. You gotta pay to play!

I've never heard of this either to be honest. I use tracking facilities within dedicated affiliate programes

The main point is to track everything.

If you are using targets to drive traffic you want to know which targets convert so you can remove targets which do not convert
You want to know which days and time of day convert so you can day part if a day or timeframe does not convert
If you are using a landing page you will want to know the ctr and conversion rate of the landing page
You may want to watch which browser converts better than others
You may want to track different ads

    Is this making sense?

Let's imagine you are advertising a weight loss pill.

You earn $25 every time someone buys it through your link. You have $2000 to spend on advertising.

You spend $1000 to run a banner ad for the pill at msnbc.com for a month. You spend another $1000 to run a banner ad for the pill at foxnews.com during the same month.

You sell 100 bottles of pills for $2500 in commissions. You made $500; hooray!

But, you have no idea where any of those customers you referred came from. It's one of the ads, but you don't know which one. Without tracking, you renew both ads and make $500 a month promoting this product.

If you set up tracking, you might learn that only liberals buy weight loss pills*; all your sales came from the MSNBC ad. In the following month, you can make the exact same ad spend, but put all $2000 into the banner that worked best and not waste $1000 on one that produced no results.

Instead of 100 sales and $500 in profit, you'd expect 200 sales and $3000 in profit with no increase in spending... you just increased the ROI of your advertising by 600% for free.

That's what these tools tell you and why you use them. They pay for themselves many times over every single month you spend a dime on advertising.

You can type in the concept into Google and you would get a lot of answers. But suffice it to say, as an internet / affiliate marketer, you need to become efficient with your time and with your dollars. And the way to do that is to Track everything (heck some people even track their spouses ... haha. Just had to throw that in. )

You said that you use paid traffic. More reason to track your advertising to see if you are getting a good return on your invested capital. And the way to really do that is to Split Test your campaigns and use your tracking information to determine the better ROI.

Track which of your advertising campaigns work so you can understand where you can best spend your time.

    Hey Big,

I think myself and a few others skipped right over the "202" part at first.

To answer your question.. you don't NEED to use a 3rd party "tracking" paid service -- which "Tracking202" appears to be -- to be successful at a network like CrakRevenue.

Can't say I'm too familiar with this software, but I do know CrakRevenue.
The trackers you can set yourself at Crak are all you need to analyze stats (and to learn what's working/what's not) and that's what most people use.

It seems like the service you're asking about is designed more for PPC anyway, and not CPA.

Ben Holmes' advice was spot on!

    Hope this information helps.

Tracking is very important especially if you are using paid traffic
If you are using different sales programs you want to know which ones are productive and which are not, that way tracking is important

Tracking allows you to tell which landing page/keyword/etc is performing well for you. It will give you more insight into what your doing.

In your case you need to know which landing pages/creatives are performing better so you cancel the loser and add in another landing page/creative. Do this over and over again and your ad will get better and better ultimately generating you more ROI.

I 100% Agree. Try Hypertracker its a very good tracking system and you can set it to track unique traffic only, so if someone clicks your link twice it'll only count them once so your stats aren't misleading
