So I've spent years trying to figure out my special purpose as Steve Martin put it.

I have millions of interests and I could keep myself busy my entire life given time and money.

I'm a pro coder and have coded in over 20 languages.

I've though about doing a UDEMY course but what am I going to do that's not been done?

I've built a few commercial websites and teamed up with Marketers, but hey flopped.

I've hooked up with dreamers and built their dreams and they have flopped.

I love to learn about Internet marketing but I am well aware that Learning wont pay the bills.

I'm great at working a job but I am so done with working a job I can't see straight. I want to work for me.

I'm stumped, stuck, frustrated. I'm all ears. If anyone has an input for me I'll be your best friend if you share it.

Please don't say "build a list". I can't build a list without knowing my special purpose. hehe and although I can build a funnel, squeeze page, website etc etc I have no idea what "it's" focus would be.

How is anyone here suppose to tell you what your special purpose is?

You're not. I was hoping someone might have some input on how to figure out which direction to go. How did you figure out what you were going to do? With all of the possibilities available what lead you down the path you are on?

That's entirely backwards thinking. The best selling courses are those that have been done many times before - because that is what is in demand. Putting your own personality and experience into the course is what will make it attractive to even those who have purchased a dozen similar courses.

If you don't know your "special purpose" by now, stop trying to find one. Just concentrate on doing something you enjoy and keep at it.

Looking for special purposes because you've heard that's what you should be doing, is living your life under someone else's terms. Choose your own path and let the purposes take care of themselves.

Brent, you said it yourself, I need to know whats up before I build a list or I'll have no idea what to communicate with the list once I have them. Or did I misunderstand what you meant?

Simple answer since you already know how the system works is to research a market and niche.

Make it your business to find out your market's business and your competitors.

Find the demand or common problem and deliver solution or help them get the answer.

Give your buyer what they want and sell them what they need.

One thing's for sure: if you've spent years trying and haven't managed it, nobody else is suddenly going to manage it from reading a forum post you've written.

What did hundreds of other people do, who have successful Udemy courses? You surely don't imagine that they all did something that hadn't been done? (I can tell you, without even looking, that that isn't true: most of them did something that had been done before, but did it a little differently.)

How to find your special purpose in life.

It requires some self study. It is locked away in a combination of heredity, early childhood experiences and "magnetic" influences.

So, a 5'4" heavy built Italian guy probably isn't going to make it in the NBA, Spud Webb (although not Italian) is about as small as it gets.

You come into the world with certain inherited traits, many get reinforced in your childhood, someone chooses where you live, what schools you attend and who you associate with. These often cause blocks in adult hood, hidden governors which keep you from realizing your purpose.

So, you have to examine your life from birth to about age 16 and identify who was making decisions about you and what if any magnetic pulls you had toward a field of study or interests.

Many musicians, for example, are pulled toward music at very young ages. Others, math is the attraction.

Look through your life to see what keeps coming around, out of the million things you have on your plate, there could be a few which have been of keen interest to you your whole life.

IF you believe you have a life purpose or "thing", and you don't know what it is, then you have to go looking for it, look inside.

The SQ1 are tools which help you identify this, they are FREE, you can find them at Speaking of hidden treasure, it is time to mine the SQ1 again...

Good luck mining your personal gold, it sometimes takes very hard work.

Actually Muggsy Bogues was 5"3 and he was the shortest ever in NBA

He could dunk a volleyball no problem. His hands were to small to palm a basketball

You shold teach people how to code.
    Or Odesk, find good client.
Promote your skills on a website.
Develop some good plugins and sell them.

I wish to be a good developer, maybe one day I will find someone that teaches me, if you do a dummy course that improve skills, I will buy it

    • Aren't there an endless stream of places in the world to learn to code?

Books, websites, videos and on and on and on.

      What's my differentiator?

I've been coding for dollars for a long time. That's trading time for money. I'm ready to move on from that. I want a more passive method of generating income.

I've though of trying CPA. Seems that if you invest enough money you can figure out how to develop a fairly reliable source of moolah?

I'd love to code something useful that could make money. It seems that since I've been coding for over 30 years its most likely the most valuable/useful thing I have to offer.

I don't know what your special purpose it but I know what it should be for the immediate future.

You're kicking your own ass. You believe in failure far more than success. Hell, look at your WF name. Stuff like that tends to come true especially when you embrace it the way you are. The whole tone of your post is that nothing works for you.

Baby, you become your dominant thoughts, feelings, emotions and attitudes. So start looking at the bright side. Here's a little phrase you might want to work into your formerly dreary repertoire. I reject failure and failure rejects me.

Then get off your butt and go do what you love. The thing you were meant to do is the thing you'd do happily if you didn't have to earn money.

I don't mean to be dreary. I'm stating facts. I haven't found my niche yet. I've learned a ton along the way. I've seen some big projects through til the end. Heck I might have even put one together for you.

I work my day job and research IM and have been for a long time.

I'm just trying to figure out what's next.

And point of my name is simply that I expect to fail along the way, but I'll keep failing until I succeed. I won't quit. I'm not focused on the failure. I'm not scared of it. I expect it to come. It's inevitable in doing anything worth while I believe. But in the end, I'll find the success I seek.

Dude, you don't need a "special purpose" ... a job isn't a life. The "If you love your job, you'll never work a day" people are full of crap. Work isn't supposed to be fun, it's supposed to be work. If work wasn't supposed to be work, it wouldn't be called work, it would be called "Super Awesome Fun Time" or "Skipity Doo".

Don't try to find something "interesting" ... try to find something PROFITABLE. Something you absolutely LOATHE doing, with a BIG payout, so you will finish it as quickly as possible, get your big payout, and then you can spend your time doing something ACTUALLY interesting that ISN'T work.

First thing to do is take all of your negative thoughts and throw them away.

Then when you write a post or an article or do something be POSITIVE.

    Help others by being POSITIVE.

You say you have helped others, then use that as a starting point, and see where it needs to be fixed.

Take each failure and learn from it.

Thomas Edison invited the light blub, and failed many times.
Did he QUIT? No he kept on trying until he succeeded.
He used each unsuccessful attempt, and said to himself that he was one step closure to success.

I have not worked a day in my life. I have made it a game, you learn by it better.

First Of All I would want to tell you that i used to suffer from almost same thing you are currently suffering From.

I knew way too much than an average teenager should know and this affected my productivity badly, whenever i want to go into one niche, i realize i am pretty good in the next niche, and this continued for close to a year, before i finally decided i was going to do just 1 thing and stick to it.

I had to go into the weightloss Niche despite its competitiveness and so far my Journey has been great.

So OP What i would advice you to do is this, pick up a pen and paper.
      {yeah i know a pen and paper for we smart individuals is nearly impossible, but just pick it up and follow exactly what i am about to analyze to you.}

first write Down At Least 10 Things You know you can do pretty well, forget about the competition for Now,

After That evaluate what you think might make you pretty comfortable while teaching it out. also write that down.

Your Next Step is to just go ahead, register a domain name and host the site. then install wordpress on it. {this shouldnt take you more than an hour}.

Once The Above step is complete. you would have this feeling of relief, just pick up the idea from there and focus on making it bigtime there, before going to the next big thing.

And do not forget, the main problem with information overload is that you are always thinking the internet marketer next door knows the same information you know. Which then leads you to continue looking for the next best information they would be willing to pay for. and the real truth is that you might never find that information.

So get of your butt and start Doing Something Sir.

I was in a similar situation recently and completely understand where you're coming from. I don't know if anyone can really say "do this or do that" because ultimately you need to be the creator of your own destiny in order to be truly satisfied.

But what I do hear from your post is a lot of disjointed pieces. My suggestion is to pick one thing you at least half like or enjoy and get in your head that it will take at least 6 months to become profitable. Then just begin focusing on making that one thing...developing a following...building a list...launching a product.

Trying to find a "system" is not what I'm referring to. I'm talking about one interest, one niche, if you have even half interest in it...although a lot of interest or passion would be ideal...just commit to it for at least 1 year.

For example, let's say you had an interest in dog training. Then choose the part of dog training that most interests you and begin a blog on tumblr, a youtube channel, and a twitter and facebook...all interworking to blog your journey in that interest. This gets you into the niche and begins building an audience that likes you. As you build the audience and create content, you are also inadvertently coming up with a product. All those blog posts and comments can be turned into an ebook. The youtube channel can turn into training videos, etc.

I don't know if that's helpful, but I think the main idea is to just pick one and commit to it...to focus. Most Internet Marketers who are not as successful as they want to be are that way because they are spread too thin or never focusing on one thing. Do one thing brilliantly.

The best way to find your purpose is to try different things. Since you already know so much about Internet marketing and programming, set up a WordPress site in a niche that you're familiar with. Focus on growing your website and making money online. If you want to switch a different niche later or try a new approach, do it. However, you need to start somewhere.

FailFailFailSucceed, the first thing is to change your username. You are instructing / re-enforcing your sub-conscious to continue to FAIL in all your endeavours. This is NOT your fault. It is as a result of your programming from since you were young. (Don;t ask me how I know that :-) ).

Second, stop feeling sorry for yourself and get with it. Find out what you love and take ACTION. Determine your TRUE LOVE by following this :

How DO YOU IDENTIFY YOUR HEART DESIRES?

    - true heart desire produces creative energy

    3 Step Process:

    1) Ask yourself: "What would I like to have in my life that I do not have right now?"

    - write down what ever comes to you.

Alternative questions: What would I like to do if money was not an issue?

    What makes me happy?

What would I love to do to help others?

what did I do in the past that I enjoyed doing that I do not do now?

    and so on...

    2) If I had that in my life (or I was that or I could do that ... the answer to question 1) how would this make me feel?

    - ask this question for each desire asked in question 1

    - this question focuses on what is TRULY important to you.

    3) On a scale from 1 to 100 (this is called the Heart Intensity Scale), how badly do I want each of these things?

    - we must become emotionally sensitive to our desires

    - 1 to 20: is nothing more than a wish, a passing fancy etc.

    - 20 to 40: these are the things that you think that you should , must or ought to have. Includes duties, assignments, obligations... They are far from being a true hearts desire.

    - 40 to 60: Beginnning to get warm

    - 80 to 90: usually something that you have a strong interest in achieving.

    - 100 : A TRUE Heart's Desire. This is what would make you feel truly HAPPY!

DO NOT DO THINGS THAT REPRESENT 90 AND LESS ON THE HEART INTENSITY SCALE!

When ever you are tuned in to your true heart's desire, what ever needs to be done to achieve it is never an issue. In other words, there are NO obstacles.

(I have this text so long that I think I got it from Dr. Robert Anthony. It is not mine and credit should be given to the author).

Third, get your hands on a book called How To Attract The Life You Want by Rene and Raluca Bastarache. I believe you can get it free from EliteThought.com. However, I tried to confirm that moments ago but their site seems to be down.

It is in pdf format and very good and light reading. When you are finished with it you would understand how your mind works (or does not :-) ).

    All the best to you.

Sounds to me like your subconscious has embraced this, and it's making you keep failing so you can keep proving you won't give up. The subconscious is an extremely powerful goal-getter, and right now it's fixed on keeping you failing.

"In the end" is way too nebulous for something like your subconscious. It's like "tomorrow" in that it never comes.

if you think you need to have a special purpose to start building a list you're wrong...

If you are an expert coder I would focus on building coding projects that are based
on software solutions that internet marketers need.

there are plenty of tools that can make our online marketing efforts more easy through automation...

think about tedious things you hate doing, build a solution that automates that process...
    Maybe that's your purpose
