Well one of my blogs I created just 2 years ago is attracting more than 10000 visitors a day through thousands of keywords and hundreds of posts generating income from both adsense and amazon. And I never tired doing it everyday...

I am not into SEO anymore. Google will just rank your site and keywords if you have unique content. Some of my articles are being syndicated and shared in social media giving me extra free traffic.

Not look for so much validation from people who didn't know me, my business or my determination and work ethic.

Many people (good intentioned as they were) advised me against doing what turned out to be some of my biggest successes. Sure, I admit, I met failure on the first attempts at most of them, some miserably. But I kept going with bulldog persistence. Soon I met the right person, got the right idea, or made the right adjustment(s) and things turned around.

If someone's not questioning your sanity, on occasion, about an idea you have - you're probably playing it too safe and some competitor is about to pass you, IMO.

Moral: Most people who advise you against doing something your gut tells you to do mean well. Just don't let their advice be the final word ... that's your job.

Most successful people with household names were told not just once but multiple times by experts against doing what their gut told them to do. Some listened and others turned out to be Walt Disney, Steve Jobs, Donald Trump, Tyler Perry, Oprah Winfrey, and a host of other no name but successful innovators.

      thanks...

I espcially liked what you wrote "I learned that in a field of activity like IM, in which most people are unsuccessful most of the time, the "general consensus of opinion" about things is always pretty likely to be completely wrong - or at least partly wrong - as it's lovingly regurgitated by generations of struggling/failing marketers, each on their own way toward duplicating the mistakes of the unsuccessful people trying to teach them." in the thread you linked to...

      That's so so true!!!

Yes, but the more it is asked, the more I can respond and send boat loads of traffic through my sig file.

Cause you know, I only reply to get some traction there.

        OP - Just kidding!

I would probably would spend more time learning more about those I was "getting into bed" with. Meaning, affiliate offers, potential business partners, etc...

I would charge a crap load more for my time.

If I'd had a more solid business plan to follow 7 years ago when I started with better focus I'd be a lot further along as well - no doubt.

If I'd started with a mentor - not someone to tell me everything to do, and not talking about a paid mentor, but more of a personal "hero" that would have been good.

So now, I spend some time looking into anyone who I might do something with.
Now, I charge a crap load more for my time.
Now, I have a more solid business plan.
And now, I have a couple of people who I like to follow around and pick apart what they are doing and how they are doing it.

You need to have a (fluid) plan of some kind to start. Then go find the person/people to follow, get your crap together and don't be afraid to charge for your time, and if a potential partner/affiliation comes into the picture do your due diligence.

Read, Study, Ask Questions about all marketing methods and MMO and then use the Power of One (ie. focus on one project until it makes money) before moving on to the next project that interests me. If you know marketing principles, you can apply them to anything to make money. Actually, I'm starting all over again now that I have the inside knowledge, tools available, and services available.

I've lost a lot of valuable time and money to scammers but I've learned a lot of knowledge and that like everything else in life, the best thing is the simplest thing.

I would stop worrying about everything being perfect and just take action and actually get something out there. Learn by doing. Wouldn't stop and restart my "internet business". Could've been done and set in life even if i kept my operations going online... whether the campaign sucked or not. Whatever you, just keep pushing and don't quit the business. The minute you see something working - dont touch it. Just ride it out, and let it produce the money that you're looking for in your business. May take 1 year, or 5.... all depends on how often and where you advertise.

      This !

I would also have not wasted time learning about SEO, even though I made money by ranking my blogs (for a short time).

I would have learned other traffic methods, and used those methods (free or paid traffic) to build a list (or lists).

I would have also read a few books on copywriting / advertising much sooner than I did.

Yes SEO for me was a time waster for me as well.

I mean I made money with it, however there is no true predictable method to scale it correctly with google changing it's mind every month about how they index content.

Anyway, jokes aside. If we get to keep the knowledge we have today then it's going to be:

Learn one thing and learn it well, then just do it. No sitting over it, studying it for months, and years.

I would just fall going forward. Pick one thing though. Don't run after everything. The formula I would use for finding that one thing would start with a list of your:

      1. Experiences
      2. Interests
      and of the two
      3. What will the market buy

Once you discover those 1-3 product ideas, I would get on it, dog on it. Learn that thing, and then "do it", and market it. The main problem is people don't get around to picking or developing their own product, because they just remain unsure and afraid of failing.

Hmmm, just fail forward, I promise you will learn a lot and enough to get back on the horse and ride again to victory.

But if you don't attempt to do it at all, then you won't ever get in the business.

    1) Build a list and continue building it. It's a never ending process

    Great topic Ryan.

    Cool insights here.

    I'll contribute some..

If I were to start over - I would

    - Focus on dominating one business.

    Instead of hoping around.

I went from affiliate marketing to copyrighting to having my own products to ppc marketing to ppv marketing to apps - with a bunch of businesses in between.

I made money with all of them. But I could have made 10x if I just focused on one business instead of going for the next big wave.

    ........

    - Doing media buys.

When I look around - it's mostly the media buying vendors in the Internet marketing world that earn the most.

If I just crack media buying - that's enough.

I won't need any other form of traffic.

Marc Cuban says this a lot: "You only have to get rich once".

    ...........

    - Selling assets.

Having an exit strategy and knowing when to say goodbye.

In our industry - most people never sell. They cling to their assets until it's life cycle is over and it's dead.

But they don't sell it. Specially not at it's peak.

Most millionaires and billionaires you know about - didn't get rich by clinging on to their thing. They sold it and moved on.

Marc cuban (broadcast.com to yahoo), Steve jobs (sold all apple stocks), Elon Musk (paypal to ebay) to name a few.

I don't want to be doing this 3 years from now. I want to move up the food chain and become an investor.

I don't want to be the guy managing the casinos.

I want to be the guy owning them

If I was starting today I would:

    1) DO one thing at a time instead of trying to make everything work.
    2) Build up on stuff that I have already built. If not then built something first and the build up on top of that.
    3) Research and do some inner dialogues to truly find out what I want and need from life and what is my gift that I would like to share with the world to create purpose in my work instead of dong it just for money.
    4) Collect a list right from the beginning.
    5) Test and track to find the best things that work for me.
    6) Made videos when YouTube was still in its early stages.

Much more but those were the ones that came up to the top of my head right away.

I'm actually starting over again. Here's some of what I'm planning to do.

I would focus on building a list, learn article writing, and plant hundreds of order buttons all over the internet.

I would also invest back my online income to my sites.

1 Invest a lot more in paid marketing... cause everything else is slow

2 Accept faster people don't want the truth, they want to be motivated, uplifted and most of the time told what they wanted to hear... to feel better.

By the way, I've been having trouble with this for about 10 years now... LOL

3 Get people to do my marketing and concentrate more on the things that matter.

    1. Build a list from day 1

    2. Try not to conquer 20 different venues of marketing all at once

    3. Outsource more tasks to allow myself more freedom to do what really matters.......project management.

    4. Create more products

    5. Spend more time learning about trackable paid traffic than SEO. ;-)

Realize it doesn't take money to make money... But at the same time, sometimes spending money will help kickstart your career. People say it takes money to make money, but you don't need to do that. However, again, spending some money will help jump start you to making an income from home. Hope that helps!

I would focus more on DOING and less on reading about it. I wasted so much time by not doing stuff

Not waste any time in the small insignificant stuff. Only focus on making big money. it's about the same effort.

I would start doing exactly what a successful person in my niche is doing. Also, I would most likely make a video and an SEO blog post per day for 6 months without stopping!!!

    Things I Would Do Differently?

    1) Have a long term perspective and choose a niche that is profitable and I'm passionate about
    2) Build assets in that niche like email list, blog, video channel, etc
    3) Invest 80% of time taking action and applying rather than LEARN, LEARN, LEARN

Get a coach straight away. This business has changed so drastically over the years that it's nearly impossible for a new entrant to gain traction.

step2 add value to people's lives cos it's not about "ME' i was always about finding that next shiny object
step3 no business hopping..just stick with one and stick it out until achieved the most ultimate results
step4 Keep going..never quit ...quitter's never win winners never quit

but still NO results...here is the question....wonder should keep going??? ...or stop re fine tune again? or find another ways which people haven't discover? ..etc etc

I would have built my sales funnel right the first time and actually put a funded proposal in place. I left a lot of money on the table by not doing this.

The majority of people are already in a business opportunity so I should have been promoting something else that will provide a solution to their problem - normally how to get more leads.

A value packed sales funnel in the form of a funded proposal also increases conversion rates through the roof and allows me to have more of that 1-to-1 personal experience with my list!

Big mistake I made and that I should have done right from the first time!
