Is a "solo ad" just a spam email? Or is it targeted email that goes into inboxes?

I don't understand how it works.

If I have a "sports related" product - can I buy solo ads targeted to sports fans? If so, where do I buy these ads? What is normal to pay for a solo ad?

Thanks!

Mike

    Hi Mike,

Solo Ads effectively is using someone elses email marketing list to promote your own product. It shouldn't typically be a spam email; these "targeted audience" have opted in to the list owner's list and given the individual permission to send them email (traditionally because they opt in for registering a free email or newsletter)

There are many solo ads that are simply spam however and they don't convert that well understandably. An ideal solo ad would be a list where the list owner is giving a lot to their audience and building a positive relationship so when they share something their list trusts them.

If you have a sports related product then consider posting a request on the Warriors for Hire Section though most people here would have internet marketing related niches. Consider signing up for a few sports related product freebies or product buyer list and then contact the owner directly to inquire if they might be interested in running a solo ad with you.

Price wise I can't help as much though I would think maybe around $0.50 CPC for a list worth anything? I think contact another Warrior (one minute let me search up his name - igor) who would be able to help you better

I don't suggest mailing an internet marketing list
        a sports offer...

that's not targeted enough when there are lists
available where 100% of the subscribers have
opted in for that specific purpose of hearing about
        sports related news and offers.

A solo ad, is a type of an email newsletter ad...

there are multiple types of email ads...
Top Sponsor, Middle Sponsor, Classified Ad,
P.S. Sponsor, and Endorsed Mailing (typically
only big brands or gurus offer the latter)

typically in mainstream markets when you're
purchasing an email ad in a niche you don't
get to control what the subject line says...

A solo ad, is basically a stand alone or (solo)
advertisement to a set of subscribers. The
benefits of a solo ad are typically you get
complete control of what the ad says, including,
    the subject line...

So to answer your question yes you can purchase,
a solo ad to sports fans only...

to find a list specifically that fits that criteria usually
you will either find lists like that with big mail houses
like arcamax, or newsmax, or go make a deal directly
with a site owner that has a list in that niche.

As for costs in the mainstream word generally you're
going to be paying on a cost per thousand email addresses
    mailed basis...anywhere from $1.10 - $2.00 per thousand emails
    delivered.

Now luckily if you're in the internet marketing niche,
than you can buy a performance based solo ad,
that has a certain number of guaranteed clicks...
but for other niches typically you wont find this.

    hope that helps.

  • It can be spam but most of the time the good ones are not spam and are targeted.

I know buying solo ads is a VERY effective way to build a list in the MMO/Biz op niche. I'm not going to say they are not effective for other niches too, but I think they are just more widely available if you want to promote Internet Marketing related offers.

If you can find someone with a large list in your particular niche and approach them and ask to buy clicks from their list I'm sure it would probably work out quite well for you. However, most of the solo sites that I have seen, and just about all of the sellers on Facebook & Skype accept only IM related offers.

As far as scammers go, you have to be very careful because the solo ad industry is loaded with them. Make sure the person you are considering buying clicks from has REAL testimonials. In the Facebook groups it's great because you can even contact the person who wrote the testimonial and ask them about the results they got with your prospective seller. However, it's still possible to get scammed even if you do your due diligence. That's just the way it is.

Mike, most solo ad vendors are in the verticals of MMO/IM/BIZOP (make money online / internet marketing, home business opportunity )

If you looking for niches outside these then i would advise to either search yourself or outsource and find blog owners, site owners and contact them directly and ask them would they mail their list in return for cash.

I want to ad that the way to find site owners with lists is to do a Google search for your keywords and search the sites that come up. If they have an opt in form, they have a list. Email the site owner about advertising to their list. If big sites come up like espn, etc, move on. You want private site owners with lists.

Nexmark also has lots of email lists in a wide variety of niches. Go here: Mailing List Finder -- Search & Compare Mailing Lists and click "looking for mailing lists." You can search for your keyword. It will tell you the subject of the list, the number of people on it, and the price.

As mentioned here before, lists that are NOT in the internet marketing niche are a little harder to find.

for the sports niche, it seems that facebook fanpage is a better way to monetize. do a research on the fanpages on this niche in facebook, and reverse engineer what they have done

Can any of you recommend 5 or so highly trusted solo ad vendors. I saw the name 'igor' mentioned and I recall reading he is among the best, yet very expensive also. So I might request recommendations for vendors who are very good but won't break the bank. My niche is online marketing opps, home biz, network marketing (not MLM).

I, too, would like to know more recommendations for solo ad vendors, as mentioned by robinbarr. I have contacted Igor previously however at that time I was not in the IM niche. I am now building an IM list and would like to place a couple good solos to get it going. Thanks!

Check for some solo ads on Facebook. They are some really good ones there. It really depends on the person who is issuing the ads and their list
