Newbie Question - The Thank-You Page

I am somewhat new to internet marketing but I have chosen to go the affiliate method to begin.

I have a squeeze page; email auto responder setup, and I am building my list through ad swaps in the health and fitness niche.

So far my squeeze page is converting around 40 - 42%. I am still testing to improve, before I move onto other traffic methods, but I am noticing that my open rates are not that great after people have opt-in to my list. As a result I have yet to get any sales to my affiliate offers.

About 50% of people respond to my first message after they have double opted-in already, sent out the same day as opt-in.

But after my first email the second email in the followup sequence seems to go dead. I will be tweaking the email auto responder in the coming days i.e. frequency, subject tags, etc to try and keep the list alive but need advice on how to use the opt-in thank you page.

I wanted to know should I be using the thank-you page after someone has opt-in to offer a one-time offer or just continue to build a relationship with the customer through my email auto-responder.

Any personal experience would be greatly appreciated.

Seems like you have it pretty well sorted mate.

You will find that opinions vary greatly as what to do with the thankyou page.

Just choose which feels right for you and as always test track and tweak

Keep at it though that first sale is just around the corner

Does the second email in your auto responder try and sell the affiliate offer to your list? Maybe try moving the sell back a couple of days and offer a bit more value first to gain trust, see if that makes a difference.

If you can get people wanting to open your emails, when it comes to the affiliate offers you will have much more success.

  • Recommended: At the end of the first email, write something like...

P.S. Look out for the next email where I will show you how you can not only achieve (Short term goal that your audience have, like lose your first kg's) however I will show you how you can get the momentum you desperately need to (Long term goal your customer wants)

And in your autoresponders...keep promising great content in the next email, and keep delivering it to build trust

Thank you I was thinking about doing this also this is also. I think maybe they don't expect anymore content from me after the first email.

I would start changing subject lines on email 2 radically until the open rates increase. :]

(Also, if you notice email 3 for example is getting a superior open rate, move email 3 to email 2's slot, if that makes sense).

Also remember, that sales are the top metric to consider right?

So, you may consider making your thank you page a money offer of some type. (I hope you're at least monetizing the thank you page in some way).

Building a relationship is vital, but if you don't make money, can you afford to continually email your list just for the heck of it?

I hope this helps, and wish you nothing but the best.

Another thing to look at is your opt-in offer. You may be getting a bunch of people accustomed to collecting freebies and then ignoring everything else. If they're on a list that runs swaps regularly, they know they just have to wait for the next one to get their fix.

Personally, I'd advise you firmly against doing that.

There's quite a lot of misguided thinking about, on this subject. It's worth bearing in mind that it's possible to make the occasional quick sale that way and still lose a lot of money overall. Here's the key concept: the few people who will buy anything, that way, are all people who would have bought it in a week's time anyway, after receiving some email from you, so there's no real gain. But many other people, who would otherwise have bought it a week or two later, will be alienated by it, because of course it makes you look like "just another marketer", so if you do that, expect a much lower open-rate for your emails than if you don't do it (this is something you can and perhaps should, eventually, split-test for yourself).

Thank you for your feedback. These are great points I definitely want to build a lasting relationship with my subscribers and your right that if they were going to buy on the first day then they would buy a week from now. But if I build a lasting relationship they will continue to purchase from me in the long run

If you are passionate about your niche & have knowledge/experience within it then start a YouTube channel.

Make videos with valuable content that show you are a real person, both in front of the camera & screenshot content. Set up a blog & link this information to your blog in your auto responder messages.

People buy from people & video is a great way to get people on your side & trust you, then they may buy from you.

You will then also have a blog that the search engines will rank (more traffic) & you can build a list from your blog too.

        Cheers
        Barry

The reason your messages are being dumped by the second auto-respond has to do with the quality of your message, you are turning them off - they sense you want to sell to them and they just go 'Meh, another marketer' You are all organized and no doubt you are following the 'the process' to the T - but when people talk about relationships, they mean REAL ones, people can spot a phony a mile off, they are not stupid no matter how many seminars conducted by smart arse gurus have told you rhey are pliable and putty in your hands - you have to make a connection with them-and you are not doing that.
Review whether you have a real interest in 'health' or if it is just a niche you think will make you money - people can tell.

The first is a thank you for subscribing email.

The second email I send has nothing to do selling them anything it is just an introduction of myself and my weight lose story and how I want to help them create their weight loss story.

My first thing I want to do is build a relationship authentic relationship which is why i put my story and my own personal information out there.

I feel that maybe the third and fourth emails may begin to sound a little bit like I'm trying to sell them but most people have not made it to the next emails.

You need to test to your subject lines until you find one that inspire your subscribers to open it.

But don't create a headline that creates a false promise that your content does not deliver. That's the quickest way to make your subscribers made and lose their trust.

Sometimes a drastic difference in open rates can also be due to one message ending up in more spam folders. Though far from definitive, both aweber and get response will give u a "spam score" of sorts for your messages. Also, make sure to remind subscribers to whitelist ur email address

I just want to thank everyone for the help I will be doing a little tweaking of my email auto responder and my thank you page to help me unlock this mystery.

Instead of sending the link to the video in the confirmation email I will be directing people to the free product after submitting their email address. My objective is to begin establishing a relationship.

I will be changing the copy on the first email that is sent out right after the confirmation email and also adding a stay on the look forward to my next email regarding "XYZ"

I will keep you guys posted and thanks for the awesome feedback.

I always wondered what style worked best.

I have just added freebie links to my confirmation page. To get people to sign up to other affiliate offers.I haven't considered adding a paid product yet - just testing the waters.

Good luck with your own tweaking - we tweak until we find something that works, right?

    Hi Ashlindz,

Thank-You page offers are FANTASTIC, because your thank-you page is really the last time that all of those who opt-in will see what you read - as not all of them will read your emails, and some of them will never see you again. Hard fact when you have paid for marketing I know!

I would highly recommend putting a OTO on your thank-you page for cheap - you will be amazed at the amount of sales that it generates for you if set up correctly!

I've seen some great advice on here so far, like playing with the headlines. That is a really good start to getting some higher open rates. Also you may want to look at your headlines in your emails to ensure that may not be causing you to hit the spam folder or something.

This site can help with that:

I'm not sure if you're doing this yet, but I might possibly consider switching up your funnel a bit to offering a tripwire offer.

If you're not familiar with a tripwire offer, it is like a mini-product that you sell for really cheap. Less than $20. The most common price I see is $7, but I personally recommend that you play around with the price to see what converts the best.

Make sure that your mini-product (tripwire) is of immense value. Worth at least $50. You'll notice that this will get tire kickers off your list right away and you'll be left with a significantly higher rate of buyers. You'll also be getting reimbursed for some or all of your traffic expenses when you switch up your traffic in the near future.

A massive part of the responsiveness of your subscribers has to do with how you train your sub from the start.
