Photos To Use On Website Templates

Hello,

I'm interested in creating some website templates that I will in turn be selling to various clients. Where is the best place to get photos like this? I mean, I believe that there are restrictions on how many times you can use photos in print or on a website, right? What site/vendor/etc. gives people the best deal on things like this?

Thanks

The best would be to purchase stock photos or commission photos with the rights to incorporate them into another work. That is pretty common in most licenses.

You can find "free" photos but many of them are only free for "non-commercial use". Using them to create a paid product would not be "non-commercial use".

There are many threads here that list image/photo repositories and stock sources. Just search around WF for "free stock photos", "stock photo sites", etc. and you will find a few threads.

Go for stockphotos and pay for it. It may be a bit of an added expense but it would save you from copyright problems or concerns in the future. PLUS there are many choices so you can play around which ones to use for your website theme.

Do the following and you will be on your way.

    1. Buy an expensive pro camera. Take your own images.
    2. Get a good photo editing program. Do not get gimp. Create your own icons.
    3. Spend time creating templates that look pro. Do not copy ever.

    Do not do the following.
    1. Get some one to create template for you on FIVERR, because he has the copyrights not you.
    2. Obtain some stock photo images. These might only cost $1 per image. However, an extended license is often $75 per image.
    3. Have some one from a site that does crowd sourcing. Often they will reuse images.

Either take the photographs yourself or even better, partner with a photographer and create an original product. If you have money think of finding a local photographer or advanced student, create a "work for hire" agreement and pay them. This way you will never be accused of copyright violations.

As a side note, I have a photography agent who recently asked all their contributors including myself to allow them to register each photographers work as well as their archive with the US copyright office so they can in earnest go after websites who use images illegally. This is a thorn with most agencies and they are really trying to put a stop to copyright infringement and make websites pay for illegal use.

Thanks all for your great advice.

Seobro, I didn't know that about FIVERR. Does this apply to everything there from headers to graphics to video? Any way to get them to give you the copyrights to these products?
