Feeling stuck on building a list: promoting e-book about building websites from start to finish

I wrote a book about building websites with WordPress. It is priced at $9.97 and I may add a one-time-offer at a higher price point too.

I want to start getting more people to my website, but I'm not completely sure about the best way to do this. I'm considering solo ads. Yet, I don't know the best place to find good ones. I'm also looking for more sites to post about my book launch which is in 5 days.

I did post my launch on Muncheye and WarriorJV, as well as a few other sites like that. I plan on posting on those Facebook groups in the next day or two.

For affiliates, I offer 60% of my front end product, and compared to many of the affiliate marketing offers, this is not super lucrative. So I understand I cannot rely on affiliates to promote a product for me.

Thank you for any advice about a direction to go.

I hope this won't sound cruel (and I actually deliberated whether I should tune in here): Your problem is not finding traffic channels; your problem is getting them to visit and convert. I can put a simple search into Google and find endless learning resources on how to build a Wordpress website (and all the iterations available with this CMS). Point being: why should I spend $9.97 when I can get the information for free?

In response to the point about why spend $10 on the book, couldn't you say the same thing about any topic? There are tons of free resources online for nearly everything.

I provide value including a list of over 90 of some of the most useful sites, plug-ins, and themes for creating WordPress site. I cover various topics from niches to making money to setting up hosting.

I have an offer for a free chapter on my website, so when people download it and like it that encourages them to buy the book.

I'm not saying I don't see your point, but I feel there is some value in buying an all-in-one guide versus taking free chunks from different websites.

No, you really couldn't say that about everything. I could, for instance, show you how to earn 3 figures a day via KDP, 4 figures with PPC, 3 to 4 figures a day with domains, and so on, and the information is not freely available on the internet. Were it to be, there would be considerably less struggling internet marketers. It is common sense that revealing new information will garner more interest, and therefore more sales, than information readily available (even if one takes into account a little virtual leg-work).

        Having said that...

There is nothing wrong with adding value. In fact, it's a necessity.

My point, though you clearly don't like it (and I don't blame you one iota), is that you should - in the future - consider a more HIGH CONCEPT offering. Trust me.

      Hello warriors.

      I disagree with this.

I think, folks are ready to buy everything, if you're able to show them that your product is valuable, that they better buy it. most of the informations sold in the WSO section, are available for free when you type the "right keyword" in Goggle. But we gladly use to pay in order to get these informations...
I think selling product is all about value and strategy...

So, according to me, this product can be sold. Our friend (Ben) just have to implement the right strategy.
How will you drive targeted traffic?
please, tell us clearly, so we can help you to stay focused...

      Good luck with your product.

I really lack the will to debate on this subject; it's too easy to win and I like a challenge. I'll just leave you to ponder your own comment above. If I released a WSO that was not so readily available, as you point out above, do you think I'd get more sales than those others? Depends on subject and sales page, but the answer you're grasping for is . . . "Yes, GRM. Sorry, I'm a pillock."

With a price point under $10 most common is to offer 100% on the front end and make up for that with a higher priced OTO that you split 50/50 or whatever with affiliates. But not everyone gives 100% so don't feel like you are doing something :wrong".

It can help attract more affiliates but it may not necessarily be your goal to have lots of different affiliates.

Of course, in order to do this you need an OTO that converts.

Any losses are mitigated by the fact that you are adding people to your list and can continue to promote your OTO and other offers.

As you ramp up with affiliates, solo ads and PPC you want to develop a funnel that maximizes the value of any traffic.

That's why you see funnels with 1 Main Offer, 2 Upsells, 2 Downsells and exit pops offering a "freebie" before they abandon the funnel.

Without a lot of affiliates you can drive traffic yourself.

Solo ads can be relatively expensive compared to other forms of PPC traffic. You might want to try a few low budget Bing/Adwords/facebook campaigns to test your landing pages and funnel first.

For a solo ad you definitely want to send traffic to an opt-in and then use an autoresponder series to build on that and promote your product. Don't send Solo Ad traffic to an offer without grabbing an email first.

Once you have done that you want to monitor and tweak your sales funnel.

EDIT: I agree with the above poster about paying for a "Build a Wordpress Site" product.

    Hey Ben...

Congrats on getting started and creating your first product! It's a huge step in the right direction.

About your question, I need to ask... who's your target market? Is it business owners or people wanting to make money online? Only after you identify your target market, can you really start attracting them.

Once you've answered that, you can start creating content to attract those people which can be done in a handful of ways from blogging and social media to building funnels and using paid traffic.

Take some time first and determine who you want to buy your product, and why are they going to buy it?

    Ben15,

What you're asking is basically what this forum is all about. You need to find ways to, first, get traffic to your site, and second, to convert that traffic into buyers.

I would suggest you figure out how to target your audience specifically so that you don't waste effort and money on marketing to folks that have no interest in building a web site. (Actually, you should have done this already in order to determine whether there is enough demand for your product.)

Once you figure out how to target your audience you need to determine how best to reach out to them. Affiliates? Solo ads? Paid ads? Press releases? Ebook marketplaces? Classified ads? Web sites in the niche? etc. (Again, this is part of the market research phase that you would normally complete before creating your product so that you could target that product to the demands of those looking for what you're offering.)

I would suggest you focus on leverage. How can you leverage your effort to reach the most targeted prospects quickly? Social media - Kindle marketplace - Newsletters - paid ads - etc.

Ask specific questions here at the forum and use the search function and you should be able to learn about specific strategies and places to market your book.

    Good luck,

    Steve
