Read the book "Rapid planning method" from Anthony Robbins.

It is a great book which uses a method on how to break big goal into smaller bites, and will definitely help you focus.

Set specific times for work and play. When you muddy the water between the two, you usually get very little done.

Download Freedom and completely cut yourself off the internet. It actually reduces stress as you do not have to force yourself from not going to Facebook; the program does it for you.

Choose a few specific tasks, set a timer, and then race the clock to get your work done.

I have had countless clients complain to me about this very thing.
Here is what I tell them...

First, get the information that you need from the internet that you will
be working on for the next two hours. Just focus on getting what you need.
Then, turn off your internet until you are done with getting your info.
In the meantime, turn off your cell phone and other distractions.
Get up every 20-30 minutes (unless your are really focused) and
    walk around for a break.

If you need the internet for your work, then you need to write down
(on paper) several things that you need to do, and get accomplished.
Only one thing if it is going to take a while (such as setting up Wordpress).

If you find yourself starting to get distracted, look down at your piece of paper
to remind yourself where you should be spending your efforts.

The biggest problem that most people have is when they are searching for
information. Always be specific. Always know what you want before searching,
Set aside a pre-determined amount of time (you can write this down too) for
being distracted by Facebook or Twitter, or whatever.

By actually writing down an "Agenda" of sorts, you are subconsciously
making a contract with yourself. It also gives you visual instructions which
tend to be more concrete then just your mind wandering from place to place.

Have a list that you look at whenever you are tempted to slack off that shows your top 10 reasons you need to focus and not get distracted.

You can have some Goals here or you can put how accomplishing certain task will make you feel and help you grow.

You can also have reasons why you shouldn't be logging into FB while working that will help you refocus and remember what you are truly trying to accomplish.

I've reccomended this add-on before, but Simple Blocker for Chrome does the job perfectly by blocking all the sites you need blocked.

I also found the Pomodoro technique really helpful when I want to focus on work. You don't need any of the stuff they tote on their website, but the main idea is:
Get a timer and work in bursts of 25 minutes with a 5 min break between them. Every 4 cycles get a larger break.

If you're having a hard time figuring out what makes you less productive, try the Rescue Time website and app.

Logging out really does help. Ha ha! It doesn't help when you receive notifications and what not.

Distractions were my biggest issue. It frustrated me even. Then I discovered brainwave entrainment, which use frequencies associated with specific brainwave patterns. After discovering the type of entrainment to supposedly help my distractions. I begin using it during appropriate times. ex: While writing or studying.

I found myself improving with outstanding results. I also wrote a couple articles on this topic if you would like to know more about it.

Check it out here: Brainwave Frequencies - Power and Purpose

While your there, download the free MP3's offered too. Worth listening too!

    All the best to you

If you're self employed, then you are responsible for managing your own time. So think of yourself as a very tough employer. Would a real employer tolerate your going to Facebook while on the job? Of course not! So be tough with yourself and deny yourself the chance to go there while working. If you have to update your page on Facebook for business reasons, then you will have a tougher time resisting the Facebook urge. So just set your chat status as offline so that others don't try to message you and get busy updating your page. Once you are done, simply log off.

You can set goals and not stop working until you accomplish your task, for example it could be writing 3 pages if you need to write something. Then you allow yourself a break. You just need to set your mind to it and stick to it!

For some people who work at home, distractions are constant and everywhere, especially with young children in the house. For this reason, you have to be able to work around your other responsibilities and just make the best use of the available time. After all, a well organized person can get more done in two hours than someone else who is constantly checking Facebook or emails or texting friends. All those little activities eat up the work day.

I get up each morning and try to figure out the three most important things I need to do for the day... At least one of which is solely focused on bringing me in money. If at all possible I try to avoid the computer until I have accomplished 1-2 of these tasks. If not possible, the next option I try is turning off the wifi... this is especially helpful if I am trying to put together copy, a marketing plan, etc. I finish as much as I can without connecting to the internet making notes as I go along of what I need to look up, why, and where it will go once I find it.

Also, I take regular breaks every 90 minutes. Whether to grab a snack, take a walk, check FB, etc. I maintain two types of breaks -- long breaks for lunch and exercise, and short breaks for snacks and renewal periods. I really like to do puzzles because I can immerse myself in them and not think about anything else... I suggest finding something that will take you completely away from what you were working on so you can stay focused when you return.

    GOOD LUCK!

You may also consider looking a the biological side of this. An inability to focus is associated with a great many biological stressors. Mitigating or reducing these often works wonders. I could write several volumes on this, but to keep it short:

You may consider trying Mark Joyner's Cogni-chai tea (it's something simple to make at home, not a pre-bought tea):
Cogni-Chai: Tasty Brain Kickstart Beverage – Simpleology Blog

It has a lifting effect similar to coffee, but without many of the down-sides. Increased energy helps increase focus. It also gives a great wave of reduced stress, and increased mental clarity. The reduced stress makes it significantly easier to focus as well.

Even people who don't think stress is clouding their ability to focus will likely be pleasantly surprised by the effect this has for them. Often what we think is a focus problem ... is really a problem with behavioral inhibitions (and the stress that accompanies them) that keep us from focusing.

You may also consider switching to a diet that reduces the biological stress your body experiences ... and gives you the nutrients that improve your performance. The best place to start is with the Bulletproof Diet ... because it's specifically designed around performance (while still remaining healthy, of course). There's no need to do all of it, but the more changes you make, the more results you'll get in terms of performance. You can find an infographic of the diet here:
    https://www.bulletproofexec.com/the-...letproof-diet/

Here is also a resource for doing a high performance diet on the cheap:
    https://www.bulletproofexec.com/the-...udget-version/

And here is a resource on gradually changing to the diet over time so it's easier for you to make the transition. Each step taken will greatly help you perform better. Increased focus being just the tip of the iceberg:
    https://www.bulletproofexec.com/star...letproof-diet/

If you want more background on the diet I suggested:
    https://www.bulletproofexec.com/step...oof-your-diet/

This is just the basics of improving your biology, but will already give you an incredible boost. If you wanted to hear more on this topic, let me know and perhaps I'll make a post sharing further details. So far, it seems not much has been said on the mind warriors forum about this essential aspect of success: Achieving peak human performance ... including removing the stressors that cause stress, anxiety, panic, behavioral inhibitions (mental obstacles that keep you from proceeding), inability to focus, inability to concentrate, lack of motivation and many other problems that often have a biological component. Just addressing these with mental techniques alone is often not enough.

For many people who try this sort of thing, they soon realize it was the missing link that was missing the entire time ... and quickly becomes the impetus for drastically increased success in their lives.
