What drove you to become an online marketer?

Hello all!

For quite sometime I've been scratching my head about this here, what makes you guys turn into the world of online marketing. Maybe you want residual income? No more 9-5? Whether you're an affiliate (Via Clickbank or JvZoo) or a seller (Via CB or JV). What's the passion? How do you motivate yourself to BELIEVE you can succeed at it? How much perseverance do you guys have in order to not quit and give up? Rather, give it your 110%?

Thanks guys! Really interested in finding out from a bigger audience

My main reasons are time, location, and financial freedom. I love the fact that I can be in anywhere in the world working on my business without having to be slaved to a 9-5 job!

I know that this is not magical and that becoming a millionaire in one month is not going to happen. Yet, I know that this is the key to getting the life I dream of.

The key to keep on going is to find out your reason "why". What's pushing you forward to keep on going even though you face obstacles. Find out the real reason why you are working your ass off everyday! If you have this clear nothing will stop you

Exactly right! Couldn't have said it better myself. Remember this, entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life like most people won't, so that you can spend the rest of your life like most people can't

Same here brother, and when you analyze the fact that most people get paid $10.00 (if even) PER HOUR for all the hard work they put in, just seems plain ludicrous

That's why I got into internet marketing back in December of 2002.

You would be surprised to know that most people here got into internet marketing just to be FREE from job. They never wanted hot cars or huge house. They just wanted FREEDOM.

Belief comes within. Not what people think that you could do. You have to believe in yourself before other believe in you.

What drives me to be an entrepreneur is seeking freedom. Then you discover the world of marketing and are inspired by it. Like it was meant to be and the benefits that it provides, but it obviously takes hard work and dedication.

Hahahaha! Now that you mention that, a lot of people with prior criminal histories who can't get jobs should always look into the endless possibilities of the online marketing world. I've seen cases where they succeed. That was their motivation

My main reason was to see if I could actually add another profit center to my business. Back in 1994 I owned a small premium cigar shop in a local mall and decided to look into this internet web thing. I placed some classified ads on AOL and made some sales. I was hooked.

Then in 1996 I decided it was time to build my website offering more of my products online. I was successfully selling online within the first month and the profit margins were way better than my physical brick and mortar store.

Because of my niche specialty, legal requirements had to be resolved to continue with the online business. There are stories to be told there.

I no longer believe that you can make 6 figures or more online, I know you can. Without a doubt. I did it. Anybody can do it.

Remember though, internet marketing is a business and you must treat it as a business.

There will be 20 hour days and 120 hour weeks. But if you love it, it's not work.

I believe, once you have a taste of the success in internet marketing, you will never give up.

Plan for it and never, ever give up. Keep moving forward.

    Anyways, just my thoughts.

Excellent story my friend! Truly inspiring! That's the one thing I tell everyone, always BELIEVE you can--WILL do it. Without believing that you can, there's not much more to go but a 9-5 that will end in sheer misery. As for me, you're right on the ball, I love doing this and it's the one thing in life that has satisfied me while nothing else did. We just have to keep rolling with the punches and never forget where we came from.

      Cheers!

I just got to the point where I could no longer respect my bosses anymore, and needed to do things on my own. I always felt like I was being held back... and that's the thing, if your really good in a regular job, you will often be held back by those above you, for fear of them losing their job. Some minions are blissfully unaware of it and can function, or don't aspire to be more than what they are already, but that was not me.

I started taking internet marketing seriously my first year of High School. I was 14 years old, and needed money to cover a game subscription. Go figure. I purposely scheduled my classes with teachers I knew didn't care about the schoolwork, and had student access to computers. Spent 90% of my school day working on my websites from there on out.

I'm not sure what led me to Lisa Irby's YouTube channel, but that's where it all began. I binge watched all of her videos and borrowed money for web hosting the following weekend. I was a huge nerd at the time, and rarely left the house. Spent most of my day on the computer - and the idea that I could make money while doing so was incredible to me.

I had never worked a job before, and the idea of making someone else rich wasn't appealing to me. My goal when I started was to make enough to cover college. Now that I'm in college, my goal is to avoid having to ever work a traditional job. While I'm currently doing well, my plan is to invest 90% of my earnings into the stock market and other assets, so I can live off of dividend payments and other royalties by the time I'm 35, if not sooner.

As far as perserverance goes, I definitely had my fair share of failures which made me question if making money online was worth all of the effort. Really, I didn't have anything better to do than work anyway, and I enjoyed what I was doing, so I continued on. Needless to say, I'm glad I did!

I'm new here, and this is my very first post. What drove me to become an online marketer starting from just simply wanting to own my business. I simply had that idea when I was about maybe 14 to 15 years old. Throughout my high school and early years of college life of playing sports and school activities, I had developed a strong leadership ability in which I could easily encourage people, train people, and even make the people around better than they thought they were. I always loved that about myself and it made me realize that maybe later on in life I had to become an entrepreneur. I had to become a business owner.

Going through college though, I failed out during my first year. Got my first job that summer at Wal-Mart and it was okay. Went back to another school that fall semester. Failed out again before the semester was even over. I was playing basketball at the time at both colleges on scholarship too. Well after failing, my parents were extremely disappointed in me. I hated the feeling of them being disappointed so I tried getting a job and it took me a while to find one because I was smoking marijuana and couldn't pass a drug test. They didn't know I was smoking but they thought something was up and was disappointed even more that I didn't have a job right away. Well I found a job finally at a manufacturing company. It was alright, I knew it was something I'd never want to do though but it was a start. About seven months later, I got a new job as an Account Executive. Well it was alright, but I just honestly wasn't patient with the company's growth policy. I stopped going and my parents were extremely let down again. This is probably the worse I've ever felt in my life by this time. Suicidal thoughts and more. I didn't know what to do.

Well I went back to that manufacturing company and started reading up on the internet a lot about being financially stabled. I slowly started seeing things about making money online and the first internet-based business that I had thought about started was drop shipping business. I never started it but I had read a lot about it and took an immense amount of notes and even bought some books on the topic. I'm a very studious person, and I honestly love learning and the thought of reading all of that and taking that in put an excitement through my mind that maybe I can do this.

I didn't start the drop shipping business but with some internet business knowledge and more researching I had stumbled something called affiliate marketing. I found that it was easier than starting a drop shopping business and making money quicker and that excited me even more! Right away I went to reading voraciously upon this topic of affiliate marketing and watched numerous YouTube videos. I found the marketing platform that you all most likely know about, ClickBank.

I am now currently in the process of starting my business through ClickBank with some ideas that I've come up with myself, and I'm looking to stay motivated. I have a vision that my future will be as bright as ever. I feel as if all those times I failed, was to put me exactly in the situation that I am currently in. The BIGGEST motivation that I have right now is believing in myself and my future. Making my parents proud and living a lifestyle I want. Traveling the world anytime I want to. Raising my future children in the best environment that I can. I want to peacefully in bliss. That is why I became an online marketer, and that is why I will stick to it.

Great story, Jordan. It sounds like you have found your home. Many people flunk out of college immediately because it seems pointless. Especially if they don't have a clear vision of where they are going. Just seems like a harder version of high school and going to school just to be going. You may have hit rock bottom but you still had that fire and a belief that you could succeed. Being able to inspire other people is a great quality to have. Wish you the best. With a vision for the future you will do just fine.

Thank you TNGold! Flunking out wasn't because of the workload, and it also wasn't because of it being difficult. I just honestly knew that I didn't need those classes to learn the aspects of business and actually start one. Many of great entrepreneurs are college dropouts because they had a vision. It all starts with a vision and being self-motivated because the thought of constructing that vision into your own completed business model and making more and more profits each month with the freedom you choose and the time you can spend with your family and travelling the world is one of the most exciting feelings ever. That feeling keeps me hungry and therefore I will remain consistent.

What keeps me driving online is that I know other people have reached the milestone of freedom in their lives through online marketing. I have been to the events and seen the lifestyles and I know it's real. Not just from a squeeze page.

In our economy, jobs can't necessarily be relied on for the long term anymore. I am a skilled craftsman and intend to keep working my craft, but I also intend to keep building my list online and learning to become a skilled copywriter.

I mostly believe in multiple sources of income because I have seen that any given source of income can be taken away at any time. You have to keep an open mind and be able to adjust and compensate when that happens.

I believe that online, your list is your main asset and copywriting is the most important skill you can have. I am working currently taking courses and reading books to become a good copywriter.

Making money online is real but not over night. If somebody makes money quickly it is because they already invested time and money into building their list and establishing trust with that list.

Then they were able to promote something valuable that they knew worked, because they tried it, and their readers trusted them and bought the product through the affiliate link. That's how you make substantial money quickly.

Quite a bit of work was involved to reach that point, too. I don't know that I believe in making money quickly and legitimately without a list to promote to.

After a 20 year sales career I wanted to get off the road and stay at home and make money. I was intrigued by the Internet and using it to sell as opposed to selling face to face. It took me 4 years of part time Internet marketing to be able to quit my job and do this full time now since 2006. You just can not beat the 30 second commute to work everyday.

    I have few reasons:
-I want multiple businesses and I think to include online business model is a good idea
-online residual income with no physical business is an interesting idea
-residual income was triggering me to learn how to be a marketer (not just online but both offline too)

In the end it takes some skills to make money online. =)

What Drove me to Get involved int eh internet business are
    -Initially Parallel income
    - Long term - establishing my own business
-Down the Road - establishing my own brand
Definitely, takes skills, focus and action but one has to be careful and avoid too many parallel things simultaneously.

I tried MLM (Beachbody Coaching) and loved the IDEA of it, but hated that actual mechanism. With Beachbody Coaching, it's all about getting YOUR friends and family and people you know to sign up and build your team. I was constantly being told you COULD do it all online, but when I'd ask how to actually make sales and get coaches to join me, it was all 'talk to people,' stuff. Which I hated. However, I discovered that I LOVED building websites, writing blogs, and learning about online marketing. So when I finally gave up on Beachbody (although I still do the workouts... INSANITY all the way), I just switched right over to the IM space. It's the part of building my own online business I love without all the in-person and harassing your friends and family crap.

I was bored one day and googled "make money online" - found a PPD website, started working with it and I was SO EXCITED when I earned just $0.40 for one conversion, after a few days I started earning about $3 a day, I said to myself 3x30 = $90 a month = OMG internet money is real and its amazing.

A year later I was doing $80-120 a day no problem. < stopped working completely and after a few months well, $0 - today I'm trying to get that back, I want to save money for my future.

Currently doing $5-10 a day and you know what? I'm happy with it

I was working for myself before I got into online marketing. I'd say this online marketing thing is interesting. It's why I do it.

It's not easy and there are days when something or another will make you just want to tear your hair out... like solo ads that don't convert or some technical thing that is a real pain in the ass.

But once you're over the little humps and things start picking up, the ride sure is fun. Plus you meet people along the way that are cool too.

I wanted my writing to be less "consumable." Writing an article or developing an entire document is satisfying because I love to write. I hated the fact that once the product was written - **POOF** - it was completely gone.

Now - I can write on my favorite topics and provide high quality products that will be used in many different ways by great people. They win! and so do I!

My main goal since I was a child was to be able to windsurf all around the world, for as long as I want, and do all the other thing that i want like playing with my rock band.
Now at the age of 25 I've achieved all that, but am still working hard every day in order to build my online business, which will let me have even more free time in the future.
What keeps me going is the love and passion for life and doing all the things that i love, while helping others achieve the same for themselves.

For me it's all about freedom. Online marketing is one of the few ways that someone can start from scratch and create an income that allows him/her to live financially free.

The best part about online marketing is that you're actually helping others change their lives as well. Creating content, and products that people need can be very rewarding besides the fact that you can make a lot of money doing it. I get emails all the time from people who have changed their lives from my content and products.

In my opinion, it just makes more sense to spend your valuable time and effort building your own business than to work the 9-5 and build someone else's business.

It's definitely all about time/freedom. Do YOU want to be in control of your time, or do you want someone else to be in control of it? It's strange to me how so many people don't want to work for themselves, though....they just want to show up to some place and give their entire day to someone in return for chump change. Sure, some jobs pay a decent amount of money, but if you work for someone else there will ALWAYS be a limit as to how much you can/will make...if you work for yourself there is no limit.

The sense of fulfillment knowing you created or provided something that other people find useful and want to throw money at you is indescribable. Yes, there can be long days, but as someone once said, when you love what you do, you've never worked a day in your life.
