I am living with the inability to write (dysgraphia), to do arithmetic (dyscalculia), to see or feel fingers (finger agnosia) and to tell left from right (left-right disorientation). The name given for this is Gerstmann Syndrome, a brain disease acquired after bleeding in the brain during a stroke or traumatic head injury. As a kid, there was not much I could aspire to be, because even one single story of someone overcoming the inability to write, to do arithmetic, to see or feel fingers, and to tell left from right to find success in a career does not exist. So I did not quite know if people like me could have a career, or contribute to society. I tell myself it is not about having the skill to do something, it is about having the will, desire, and commitment to be your best. I think the challenge of finding success is what pushes me to my goals and beyond.
