Does reading books work???

by Thesecret2marketing 58 replies
Hey Warriors,

In my video today I wanted to talk about a concept that's helped me change my entire life . . .

And it's the concept, or process of reading at least 1 book per day for a minimum of 15 minutes daily!

Check out today's video where I talk more about it here - https://youtu.be/gW9R5XpASho

Feel free to share your comments and thoughts about this video!

All the best,
Michael

I believe reading books only help when you implement the good strategies you learn from them. It's like cooking, you can never be a good cook from only reading recipes.

I completely agree - I've been reading books for years and taking only small bits of actions. If I had spent 50% less time reading books and 50% more time taking action I believe I'd be in a 100% better place right now but, you live and you learn - so read less, take action more in my opinion.

I agree with you on that. I basically learned how to bake by watching Youtube DIY videos and only got better by practicing it over and over again. I also picked up experimenting on recipes later on. Reading is a good thing but DOING is another. We only grasp 20% from what we read, 80% comes from carrying it out.

This is the only truth. I have also read many inspirational and motivational book but nothing happened.

Unless and until we do not apply or take action on what is suggested nothing is going to change.

Keep taking action and implement the idea suggested!

  • I believe in reading and educating yourself as that is food for the mind. What you put in your mind programs your subconscious beliefs and your actions. It's better to read and educate yourself vs poison your mind on the latest news happening around the world. The seeds you plant in your mind will manifest into patterns and beliefs you have within yourself. How actionable you are from your learning is what makes all the difference.

    Michael,

All of the very successful internet marketers read at least 30 minutes per day. I heard that some even read 1-2 hours per day and can read as much as 5-10 books per month.

Now, I also know of many people who read everyday but when you take a look at their actions, they will not move forward and will stay stuck with their business for a long time. Reading is important but action is more important. No action, 0 results.

    • Hey great truth mentioned there brother!

You're absolutely right about that man! I make a consistent and focused effort to speed read between 20 - 30 pages each morning of something positive on a daily. Most days I'll get into two books or more and get between 1 - 10 pages from each additional book. Not to mention throughout my day as I read PDF's and powerpoint trainings I'll also be taking in more positive business related information.

Reading makes a big difference, and this one habit alone can increase your income big time! ;-)

      All the best man,
      Michael

To assume "all" of them read everyday is kinda jumping the gun ha.

I've known many millionaires that don't care to read at all.

It's a great skill to be able to read everyday, but it's not the end all (which you understand by your comment as well). There are a lot of people who will just jump on any bandwagon that a millionaire/billionaire does, but it's likely that millionaire/billionaire is doing it because they want to, not because they feel they have to.

Reading helps us stay informed and keeps our mind and imagination constantly at work. By reading, we are stuffing enough knowledge that could be useful to our lines of work or to our future plans. However we need to read books that could help us grown and not just those meant to entertain us. By reading the right kind of books we are gaining the right kind of knowledge.

    Hi,

Read, and do. Excellent reminder, excellent video and more importantly, excellent vehicle/tool for freeing yourself. I read 30 minutes daily. The topic varies; sometimes I read fiction, or non-fiction, but either way I am really feeding my mind and also, giving myself a nice story telling lesson for my blog because each book I read introduces me to a new way of doing things.

If you're willing to be all in, reading daily, your prospering will increase over time IF you act on what you're reading about.

Reading gives us the broad knowledge. Action allows us to convert the knowledge into the reality. So, Reading together with Implementation complete the learning process. The ratio degree (in total of 100%) of these two will depend on how much expertise we are, I think. Like playing basketball, we need to know how to score the game but we get to really play it with the team.

I also agree reading is important, it's true that before starting out, everyone (in theory) has read about the "how to's" but if you already took action, it doesn't mean you should stop learning. The times we live in are constantly changing and staying behind, not keeping up with everything is not going to help us at all!

    Much agree with you Michael!

Not only reading allows to "borrow" minds of great people, it is also far superior to watching movies or TV, because reading triggers our creative abilities. We just read words, our mind has to do the rest of the work to create a vivid picture of what we read about.

On the other side if we watch TV or a movie, we already get ready picture, there's far less work for our creative mind to do, which makes it lazy just like body gets lazy if we don't exercise.

I agree with you 100% Michael. Ever since I started reading books on a daily basis, I've noticed that I see the world differently, and I have a better understanding of why people do the things they do and say the things they say. Most mindset shifts are made by real-world experience, but you can get the same knowledge and wisdom from reading books daily.

I believe it is important to read at least 15 min per day in your chosen field of endeavor then:

    1) Use the reading to educate, motivate and strengthen your mindset.
    2) Take action on what you read / or on your current projects.

    Knowledge without action is fruitless......

I believe reading is essential as it offers you not only the necessary knowledge but cuts you the hassle of making the same mistakes others made before you. Nowadays books cover almost every topic and somebody has probably covered the area you plan on targeting. Reading their experiences cuts you the time and effort in achieving your goals.

Reading books helps the process of mastering any subject. Most published books are respectable sources, even if you may not agree with everything in it, it is guaranteed that you will gain at least one piece of information that you didn't know about before. Some people, often called "book smart" people, make the mistake through soley relying on reading, which is a big mistake because you need hands on practice and other sources of information, too.

Then be sure that you are right:

In the first part of the movie, the scene where Morpheus talk with Neo for the first time, the next scene is when someone is knocking on the door. When Neo open the door he will notice the White Rabbit tattoo on the girl's shoulder or the wormhole where he will enter after he swallow the red pill. The second detail is when Morpheus shows Neo what is The Matrix or what is The Material World, where you can see but you can't really feel that. The third detail is when he shows the name of the ship. Do you remember what was written before the name? It's written: MARK 3, No. 11 - Gospel of Mark, chapter 3, verse 11! - According to that verse in the Bible, Neo is a metaphor of Christ consciousness. The fourth detail is when Neo goes to the Oracle... She told him: Being The One is like your in love! Did he believe in that? The fifth detail, who is Trinity or should I ask what is behind the name? = The Holy Trinity; The Symbol of Love! Did they fall in love each other? The sixth detail is agent Smith. The superhuman robot, who want to enter in Zion and destroy the city. Seventh detail, the name of the city: Zion or as you can see in the Old Testament, Zion is the Holy Mountain or Holy City!

In the second part, after a lot of fight in the movie, Neo finally enter in the building and meet the Architect of the Matrix. Do you remember what he told to Neo in that conversation..? That hi is the sixth version of The One who enter in this room, but unlike the others he is different, and you know why? Because he fell in love and he can fell that for the first time. That's why he save Trinity and Zion in the same time!

In the third part, is the final battle! Agent Smith try to enter Zion and become like them, Enlightened! But Neo and Trinity sacrifice their lives to destroy The Humans/Machines World, end the war and restore the balance on earth!

        What do you think now?

Reading definitely is a more beneficial mental development tool than many other options that are accessible today.

However the essential formula is that what is read is firstly understood and then applied...with persistence.

Often the value of a book, that is geared towards imparting substantial wisdom, is only obtained on reading it multiple times.

I'm use most people will say yes reading books definitely works, but I don't believe it does 100% of the time. While reading is a great way to enlighten and educate, it is merely one way of learning. Some learn through physical means, auditory means, and even by watching another. I do feel those methods should always be supplemented with text however, even if it's in increments.

It is always good to start reading a book, so for anyone who want to start the process, try this:
    - Try 30 days challenge: Read 30 mins per day for 30 days, to make sure you do not get bored and demotivated try to read something that you are interested in.
    - Apply the knowledge to reality: when you are familiar with the new habit, learn to read faster (scan), and try to apply everything you learn from the book to reality, evaluate the result and the go read the book again for revision.

Reading books works, but not all books that you'll read give you the aha moment that you are looking for.
What i have learned about reading books is most of the time in the book, only one sentence can change your life,

Also there are many ways of consuming information, It depends on individual on how they learn.

Some people they can read, some they are listeners they learn from the Audio programs & some people are visual they can only learn by watching Videos & some can learn from both channels.

All i suggest is USE what is easy for you, is either Books, Videos or Audios.

On the other point of view though, I'd like to add to this info. As I observe, gone are the days where readers will be so much interested and will last long browsing through plain text format books. We are now living in a generation of "instant everything" -- from food, love life, success, fame, etc. Books are no exemption.

I am not generalizing readers. There are still a handful group of people who could do well comprehending a page full of texts only. However, majority of the millenials today prefer texts with "illustrations" -- graph, pictures, visual aids, animations, etc.

Research has shown that over the past century, human mind have evolved affecting primarily the way our brain works with texts. Our attention span compared before do not last longer now. 15 minutes a day would be an awesome idea to finish a book without illustrations. And I think this time could extend to at least 30-45 minutes per day if what we are reading are supplemented with pictures that would emphasize the meaning of the texts we are reading.

Here's a process for getting the most out of reading books. First, figure out what books have the highest value for you (based on reviews and research). Second, read the chosen book(s) using a pen and highlighter - write notes in the margins, highlight the good stuff. Third, extract your notes and highlights to an outside source (I use OneNote). Fourth, expand the notes based on your knowledge and prior research. Fifth, extract the action steps. From there, go to work on getting results and track your results. Refine the process as you go. When you have a solid process, your reading becomes more focused and intentional - and you'll tend to get real results from it. Remember, you're investing time -- which means you need to get a return on that investment. So, make sure you have a way to get that out of the books you read.

        It boils down to this:

I discovered that hypnotic commands ingrain in the subconscious
very drastically. On the other hand books require your attention,
enrich only your sphere of gnosis but cannot stimulate you as
deep as hypnosis. With cosmic hypnosis change and progress occurs
seamlessly and contains inductions that are soaked by the subconscious.

The consensus is that "we don't need no education".

We need actionable components assimilated deep within.

The right type of hypnosis will get you in deep trance and whisper
in your ear, magical words that induce change and a refined yet
        programmable mindset.

    Great post —Thanks Michael.

One of the most amazing aspects of reading quality books is that—even if you don't act on it —you will accumulate "Information" that expands your understanding of the subject.

Then there's "practical" information that will help People succeed in their chosen venture.
