Often there's a misunderstanding of the concept of "courage."
People think that it means not being afraid of something. Like
the Super Heroes we see in the movies.

However the true definition—in my experience—is that
"courage" means being afraid of something and then doing
It anyway. As Mark Twain said:

"Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear—not
absence of fear."

Every time you're afraid of something there’s an opportunity
to be courageous. And it doesn't have to be something
"extravagant." Even the little acts of courage build your
self-esteem and belief in yourself.

Let's face it sometimes life can be tough. There's a multitude
of trials, tribulations, and challenges. However because of
this fact there is also an abundance of opportunities to
overcome everything you're afraid of. As Christopher Reeve
said:

"A hero is an ordinary individual who finds strength to
persevere and endure in spite of
overwhelming obstacles."

So make the decision today that you're not going to hide from
your fear(s) and will face them instead …(Thereby being
courageous and the "Hero" of your own life.)

    P.S.
A great book for dealing with fear is "Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway" by Susan Jeffers. It's "The" book for overcoming fear.

Everyone has fear in their personal and business life.

The winners will face their fear and do something about it to move forward.

Losers will have the same fear but they don't want to do anything about it. They are too scared so they let their fear take over their life.

Good point talfighel . Something else to remember is that it's never too late to be a "Winner" in life.

Very nice thread here. I am glad it caught my eye. I really like the quote - As Mark Twain said:

"Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear—not
    absence of fear."

Very true. It makes you think about how two people may face the same exact fearful situation but one my move forward, doing the best they can and the other one hides under the bed.

  • A great author who works with the theme of fear is none other but Hemmingway himself.

In his book, the snow of Mt.Kilimanjaro, he talks about a couple, when the women's husband becomes much too afraid of the lion, well... the plot starts to develop.

And, I don't think courage is mastery of fear. Courage is not feeling fear. It's not hard to do, and it doesn't require a sacrifice of emapthy, actually, most often than not, empathic people are the mos courageos, leaving path to the expression: Gallant. and it's associations.

Courage is not to fear for your continuation. Not caring. That's it.

FEAR = False Evidence Appear Real

One must encapsulate the winning mentality of getting things done with the absence of qualms.

Visualization plays a key role here...

That is, to live the experience other than dealing with falsified evidence that hold you back.
