How I Wasted A Weekend Of Productivity!

This past weekended was supposed to be the most productive day of the week for me but it turned out being the worst in terms of getting the IMPORTANT things done.

If you haven't realized this yet, getting things done and producing measurable results is the only way to true success. Ideas are WORTHLESS if there is no WORK & EXECUTION behind them.

I wasted my entire weekend trying to fix a stupid feature on my blog. And I can honestly say that is the most stupidest thing that I have ever done since having my breakthroughs online and generating a consistent income.

Goes to show you that old habits die hard. Instead of me creating content for my new project that I'm working on to increase my income , I was beating my head against the wall trying to fix one tweak on my website.

If there was one thing that led me to having major break troughs last year it was making sure that my WORK & TIME SPENT was focusing on things that resulted to generating sales.

I know from past successes that an entrepreneur is supposed to focus on his strengths. I had NO business trying to figure out HTML and code shit. (EMF) It was stupid of me to do that.

I know that my strengths are creating content and setting up advertising campaigns and getting the over all site ready. BUT customizing is my weakness. And while I usually pay for this type of work to developers, the guy who was willing to do the work was charging what I felt was a high price.

But now that I look at it I should have paid the price because it cost 3 days of frustration and little to no work done on things that mattered. Today was a good reminder for me to always outsource things I know I can't do that way my energy could be focused on my strengths.

In simplest terms, DON'T SPEND YOUR TIME TRYING TO DO THINGS YOU KNOW YOU CAN'T DO. FOCUS ON THE SHIT THE MATTERS. QUIT TRYING TO DO EVERYTHING. IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY TO PAY A DEVELOPER DO IT. I HAD THE MONEY TO PAY FOR A SERVICE BUT BECAUSE OF MY OLD HABITS OF WANTING TO GET A GOOD DEAL IT COST ME 3 DAYS OF WASTED PRODUCTIVITY.

DO SHIT THAT MATTERS!

FOCUS ON YOUR STRENGTHS!

Thanks Ron! I will defiantly check this out. My issue this weekend was a result of falling back on old habits. It was only last year June that I started having consistent results generating income for myself and up until that time I was a "WSO Junkie" and a person who would focus on the little stuff that did not matter.

So its more of getting rid of an old way of thinking. And I'm glad I realized this early on because that could have affected my income for the months and years to come. Thanks for the share and I will defiantly check it out.

Argg don't you hate it when sometimes old habits sneak up on you and without you realizing it... 3 days has passed. Don't be too hard on yourself, this situation happens to the most productive people. The next time you feel the urge to do something you don't have the expertise in, just recall how you were feeling now, at the end of day 3.

Yes indeed I do. As time passes and I continue to progress in my endeavors I'm sure the old habits will die off. Whats really crazy is that I had my breakthrough during a time when I decided to take a year off the WF.

But with time and repetition ones behavior can change.

  • It's why people need more than just one set of skills.
Ego pushed you not to ask for help, the idea that you could do it yourself, not wanting to accept defeat etc. Those aren't "problems". Those are traits you have picked up doing the "Productive"things you lament not having finished this past weekend.

How was it ego when I was clearly looking for help in the first place? It wasn't ego that motivated me to do it myself. The guy who I contacted first was charging me way too much for less than an hours worth of work so I did not want to pay that much for the work because I felt he was charging to high.

Just because a person wants to find a better deal does not mean they have an ego. We all look for fair prices on items that we purchase. Sometimes we are willing to pay top dollar and sometimes we know that the price that one is asking for is way to high so we shop around.

My problem is that while shopping around I attempted to do it myself and that was the stupid part. Hind sight I realize that I should have put that to the side and focus on the work that I am strong at and wait until the other developers contact me back.

BTW I got the gig done for 105$ this morning!

Next time you feel someone is charging you for a product or a service that is too high and you decide to look elsewhere remember that you have an ego problem!

how come i hear this quite a bit ..when some one decides to be cheap and costs themselves far more money than if they just paid the price ahead a time ..

ever wonder why the Us really has the most expensive government in the world when everything get built by the lowest bidder ..because most of the time .. so much money is spent fixing the problems created that they would have don better just to go with a higher bidder to start .

saving money can be costly when your being cheap instead of frugal

I had more than enough funds to pay for the work. I just felt the guy that was offering the work was charging too much for the service. It wasn't an issue of not having the money, I just felt he was over pricing me on the service. 200$ for less than an hour worth of work and very simple modifications was not fair value to me.

BTW I eventually got the gig done for 105$ this morning!

I wasn't being cheap. If that guy would have ended up being my only option I would have paid but he was obviously overcharging.

so then why even put this post up .. reading the original post it looks like that realitively simple fix .. was only goiong to be simple for the guy charging you 200 ..

so you lost three days of productivity to save 95 bucks ..now how much more would you have made in that three days ..

i don't mean to be offencive but i am missing the reason you even bothered to post this if you didn't feel you had made a mistake not paying ..

now there is a chance you do not know exactally how much you lost as you don't know the exact value of the content you did not create ..so saving almost 100 dollars could be completely justified depending on your economics for what you are working on .

          No offense taken!

This post was designed to share a lesson with the hopes to help a few people that may at times find themselves doing things that really don't equate to generating revenue. The reason why it took me 2 years to generate consistent income is because early on I spent time doing things listed in this post.

I guess some people missed the point and wanted to read into the details a bit too much & that was not the goal. Many on the WF do what I shared in this post waaay to much and it is hindering their success.

But to keep it short it was designed to be a learning lesson for a few people who could take away from it.

    yeah ,

and maybe one lesson is to have several developers to chose from when you need something done ..

and expect some to want the weeken off or charge more on holiday weekends ..
