The Wantrepreneurial Cycle of Delusion OR Why you haven't pulled the trigger yet.

There's little more exciting than working on your own idea. Time flies by, your brain lights up, and your blood pumps a little bit harder. You feel alive. You're in a perfect state of "flow."

When you get excited about your idea, you start fantasizing about what it could become. You imagine your usage graph soaring like a hockey stick.

You start to imagine what your life will be like when your idea takes off.

You imagine escaping your cubicle. You'll finally be the one calling the shots. You'll look forward to Monday mornings. You can almost feel the ocean air on your face, as you sip on a fresh coconut and answer a few emails from a beach in Thailand.

But when does all that you've imagined become a reality? "Maybe," you think to yourself "3 months, maybe 6 months, maybe a year from now?"

For most entrepreneurs, it will take much longer than that. For many entrepreneurs, it will simply never happen.

The fate of those caught in the Wantrepreneurial Cycle of Delusion

These poor souls will languish in the Wantrepreneurial Cycle of Delusion. One of three things will happen:
An excellent, excellent article.

Be aware, you probably will see yourself here.

  • I believe it's rather a matter of the right momet. I've seen people with brilliant plans not suceeding. Even when things are right. There's just something outside control that can make or brake your case.
The article did made me think about the now though. I'm currently at that age where one can't help but plan and think he'll make it big.

Well, most people want to make it big, hence I don't think everybody's desires will be met.

Thank you for the article. It was more introspective than I had planned at first.

i have never identified myself as an entrapenuer ..

70 plus percent of people hate their jobs .. so they dream of getting rich so they never have to work again..

but it is al dream..few people actually do unless they have little choice ..and they start a business with the intent to put food on the table because they can't get a job..or they lost their job and built a business doing what they where doing for their last job .

holding down a job for a long period of time or being able to move from job to job easily cuts your chances of being an entrepreneur.

most business fail .. and most people whofail in business just get a new job

      So true, Odahh!

When you're "hungry" you're much more likely to make this work, especially if you "have little choice" in terms of alternate ways to put food on the table.

I like to tell students that if you have a "Plan B" you're not likely to go far as an entrepreneur. If you're serious, this is the ONLY way. Everybody talks about failure rates online. When you have no Plan B, failure does not exist. There's only the next hurdle to clear.

well you will have failures you just won't give up..

plan b is usually just what you are doing now ..if there isn't enough pain and suffering involved to motivate someone to make something else work..the dream of being your own boss will just serve to be a mental escape from the boredom or mild suffering ..but no real motive to inspire action.and the next purchase of an info product ..serves the same urpose that buying that next kitchen gadget that make you think you will suddenly cook a whole lot more healthy food ..

feeds the dream and the profits of the people selling you stuff..but eventually the dream fades..

I never put in the 10X action required to be successful until my back was against the wall.

I was stuck with no money and no hope, but then that is when I made it work. Sometimes you need to wait until you NEED it bad enough for it to come through.
