3 Things I Wished I Knew When I First Got Started Online

All of us know that one of the most important things you can do for your online business is to build your email list. There is some truth they say that the money is in the list, however that is not strictly true and I will share with you why that is the case.

To be honest a lot of listbuilding courses today are giving newbies false impressions about email marketing. They give out a lot of unnecessary hype to new students, and when these students see the reality of building an email list, most feel discouraged that they are doing something wrong.

Here are 3 mindset shifts which I wish knew in the beginning

1. Your relationship with you list is everything: So many list building courses say that the money is in the list, so to make more money you just have to increase the size of you list.
However more and more email marketers today are realizing that the relationship with your list is much more important than your list size. I will give you an example:

Last year a friend of mine took a keen interest in email marketing. He invested in a list building course and did everything that the co said.
He spent a lot of money buying traffic from solo ads, and other free traffic methods. The good new is that he built his email list in 4 months. However he was only earning on average $100 a month.
That was quit depressing

The problem was that his funnel sucked. He was not promoting good offers , was only interested in making money than helping his subscribers.

Treat your list like human beings. Like your best friend. They are just like you, and me They have certain needs and problems like most people in life. Don't treat them like an ATM.

2. You will not earn an average of a dollar per subscriber:
A lot of email marketing books, and products state that you will earn on average of a dollar per subscriber.
This is false
Especially if you are a beginner and do not know what you are doing.
If you are a newbie and you do not have a coach holding you by the hand, then chances are you are going to make mistakes. Your funnel will suck.

There is so much more to the puzzle to get to that dollar per subscriber . Your funnel, what products you are promoting, and how strong your relationship is with your subscribers.

What I am saying is that, unless you really know what you are doing, dont expect to earn $10,000 per month with 10,000 subscribers.

In business we have to make mistakes to see what works and what doesn't. If you find your earnings much less than the dollar per subscriber quote, then you need to add value, value, value, Help your list, educate them, build a solid relationship with them.
Remember that the successful gurus today, made the same mistakes, and went through the same struggles you are going through. but they pushed on.
If you continually improve your funnel an build a stronger relationship with your subscribers, your earnings per subscriber will rise.

3. Delete useless subscribers and continually add more subscribers:
Get rid of the bad appples on your list. Chances are, your emails will not resonate with some people on your list. As a result they stop reading your emails forever. Get rid of these people by regularly doing a list cleanup once a month. What I usually do is to delete anybody who has not opened my emails for one month.
Replace these people with other people who will read your emails.

By deleting these people from your list, It is much more worthwhile to continually add new people who are actually interested to hear what you have to say.
In addition doing a periodic cleanup will increase your open and click through rates which makes you look better in the eyes of Google. You want to have high open and CTR 's because it will dramatically increase your email deliver-ability.

I hope this helps new list builders in their journey. Don't have high expectations in the beginning. Chances are things are not going to go well. But that is okay.

Find out what is working and what isn't and keep doing the things which are working than the things which are not working.

There are many examples of a small--TINY!--list converting very profitably with a) highly qualified subscribers and b) a high ticket offering.

But if you don't do the work up front to qualify, expect a lot of freebie seekers on your list.

I appreciate this kind of useful post...lately, though, I've seen them quickly fall through the forum in favor of "Hey what about MY issue?" threads. We'll see if any have staying power ;-)

My point, dear reader, is Dave's post almost assuredly applies to Y-O-U. If you don't think so, read it again.

    Thanks Jason,

And to add to this, FOCUS on building a relationship with your subscribers instead of focusing on getting traffic. A solid strong relationship with your subscribers will beat the So huge number of subscribers who never open your emails.

The best way to build a relationship with your list is to send them emails everyday. By doing that i builds trust, and trust leads to sales!
