How to Develop a Work Week that Works for You
Throughout my studies on productivity I came across the concept of organizing days in your week for certain mindsets or activities.
I’ve applied these concepts to my own work week and found it to be really effective, so why don’t you give it a shot?
Below I’ve outlined how my week usually looks like. I try to keep the core concepts of each day the same and then the activities within those days flexible. For example, on Monday I like to clear out the clutter for the week, but that doesn’t take the whole day so then I might do some work, or a bit of yoga.
Monday – Clear the clutter. I tend to find Mondays hard to work on. So I like to spend the first part of the day just clearing out the mess. I go through my inbox and delete any unnecessary emails, I also go through any loose paper on my desk and organize it.
But it is not only work related. I like to try and get a bit of cleaning done around my house (just lots of small things) so there isn’t such a load on the weekend.
Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday – Work. I spend these days working really hard on my business, but I also take an hour or two throughout the day to move around a bit and get a little bit of exercise in, or some meditation to clear my mind.
Friday – Socialise/Work. I like to spend Friday mornings continuing on my work up until midday. Then I’ll do a bit of yoga and have some lunch. After that I knock off for the day and meet up with friends just to have a beer and a laugh. We all need some laughter in our lives.
Saturday – Day of Rest. I take Saturdays off to do a couple of small chores around the house and then I take time for myself. I sometimes go on a hike, or meet up with more friends, or just lounge around and watch movies.
Sunday – Reflection/Organisation. I use Sunday to reflect on how the week has gone, whether I’ve accomplished what I wanted to and if not, why not? I usually have a decent meditation session and after all of that organize my days for the next week. This way I’ve got a clear mind, feel good about myself and am ready to tackle the next week head on.
How do you organize your work week? Or don’t you at all? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!
Cheers, Zach.
