7 Hard Core Rules For Being A Kick-Ass Entrepreneur

I posted this on my Facebook the other day and it got quite a bit of action and shares so I thought I'd share with the entrepreneurs over here. Been a long time since I've posted over here. Miss y'all

7 Hard Core Rules For Being A Kick-Ass Entrepreneur

1. Show Up On Time.

If I'm about to do a deal with you and you're late, I'll probably call off the deal. People that don't respect other people's time tend to not respect a lot of other things too.

2. Do What You Say You're Going To Do.

Being an overly ambitious person, I tend to promise a lot. A few times this has bitten me in the ass. However, I try my absolute best to deliver on whatever promises I make. If I've ever promised you anything and didn't deliver, please message me. I'm not perfect, but I try to keep my word.

3. Don't Worry About The Other Guy

So many entrepreneurs are so worried about other people's businesses when they should be focused on their own. It's ok to model another successful biz, or call out someone when they've done wrong, but don't spend too much time worrying about it because it'll just disrupt YOU moving forward.

4. Quit Being A Sissy Salesperson

If I hear "I hate being a salesperson" again I may just puke on somebody. We are all salespeople whether you like it or not. Wanna play poker with the boys on Friday? You probably have to sell your wife on the idea. Want your kids to eat their vegetables? Good luck salesman!

5. Many Of Your Stories Are Bullshit

We all have issues, pitfalls and down and out stories. But don't let those stories define you in a negative way. Instead, use them to motivate you to rise above whatever struggles you may be facing. No one likes a whiner, but we love a fighter!

6. Quit Making Excuses.

I really don't want to hear excuses. The bottom line is this... You either did it or you didn't. There's no need for all the semantics.

7. Success Is Earned

The reality is, most people can't hack being an entrepreneur. If you shy away from failure, rejection, and really hard work, this isn't the biz for you! Sorry Charlie.

And if you're in a competitive market (but then again aren't we all) be willing to

    • Do more than your customers expect (over-deliver).
    • Do the things your competitors hate to do.
and you're not ready to market a product or service until you can answer the 3 questions below.

    1. What Problem Do You Solve?
    2. How Is Your Product or Service Different From Others?
    3. Why Should I Care as a Prospective Customer?

You'd be surprised how many people don't or can't answer those questions who try to market anyway. Don't believe me? Ask and see how long they take to answer after stuttering or himming and hawing. Someone who knows should be able to answer those 3 questions in under 60 seconds (Elevator Pitch).

It's amazing how simple it is to send a thank you card in the mail after a purchase yet very few marketers do it. People are blown away that I take the time to do it, which is crazy because it's really only a few clicks of a button and around a $1.00 to say a genuine thanks for being a customer.

    Hey Jason,

I remember listening to a recording you did with John Carlton years and years and years ago. I was at a low point in business, just starting to rebuild after a bit of a catastrophic setback. And listening to what you went through and how you persevered really helped push me to get through my challenges.

Fast forward a bunch of years, and things are going smashingly well here.

So, thank you. You don't know me, but your story certainly made an impact on me.

    Awesome post Jason!

#6 stood out to me at this current moment because excuses lead to procrastination which results in not getting anything done. Just do it!

Get out of your comfort zone, challenge yourself, and become better every single day. Your ultimate goal will then be achieved.

    Boss up my friends!

I think a lot of us are plagued by procrastination, myself included. One of the only ways I've found to combat it is to collect a bunch of money upfront so I'm forced to deliver on my promises. It's not a strategy I advise to most, but sometimes you just gotta roll with whatever will get the ball rolling.

Great post. I would add, embrace fear and turn it into your friend. When you start doing the things you fear over and over again, it becomes your new comfort zone. Success will require you to get comfortable with being uncomfortable.

Well said. Number 7 stuck out the most to me. It seems like most ppl I know in the US assume that success is just going to happen and not something they have to earn. So they sit around rather than going out and fighting for what they say they want

    A kickass post indeed!

    I love this one:
