Five common sense principles about success

Hello Warriors,

Lately I've seen a lot of topics in the area of "the #1 key to success" or "what you really need to do now in order to be successful". All of them are valid but none actually tell the entire story. Positive thinking without execution is useless. Execution without competency is not useless but it is slow and painless and so on.

Therefore, I will add my own insights on the topic. These are NOT the only key required for success but are among the main ones.

1. Stop procrastinating.

If you think tomorrow you can recover what you haven't done today, here's a newsflash. Tomorrow you'll have to sleep, work, eat, etc too. You'll still have 24 hours. The two hours you've wasted on doing something else because "you can do it tomorrow" can not be recovered. Even if you invest them tomorrow, you'll take two hours away from something else. Time can not be recovered. Do what you have to do right now.

2. Life for most part is a game of numbers.

The more you try, the more likely you are to succeed. Everything is a probability game. Some people have a 25% success rate while others have 0.5%. The idea is that no matter if you are at the low end or at the high end, if you put enough work, the law of probability will work in your favor.

Statistically, if you try 100 times something, there is an equal chance for you to win the first time you try it and an equal chance the last time (without taking into account the fact that you get better with each trial). So in a way, it is not done until it is done. If you put enough work, no matter who you are or what you do, you will become good at it and you'll achieve success.

3. In order to optimize, you need to have something to optimize

This is something most people don't understand. Before you optimize your online business, you need to have an online business. Before you optimize your PPC campaign, you need to have one up and running. Before you optimize your copy, you need to actually have a copy.

Finding better ways to do something is kind of useless if you're not taking action. You can spend 10 hours a day learning and you won't get anywhere if you don't actually use what you learn.

A simple analogy is thinking about how you are going to furnish your house before you even have a house. Get the money for the house. Buy the house then worry about the furniture. An optimization brings a small improvement but you can't replace the base of the pyramid. So actually take things in a logical manner. Get task A done then learn how to do task B.

4. While you are looking for the perfect model, someone is already earning money

It would be nice if most people would earn money from what they love. However, in this world, most of us hated their field in the start (or developed a strong hatred at some point).

We've started to love it because we've got good at it.

In life you are paid for the value you bring to others. If your passion is building engine jets, then the value you'll bring is higher than playing Starcraft 2.

When someone fails to execute because "it is not the perfect field" I just consider it sheer laziness. Do something and then once you get the results, determine if you want to stick with it or not. Don't dismiss every idea because it is not your "dream field".

5. Life is not suffering nor is pure pleasure

Life is life. Sometimes you'll wake up ready to take on the world. Other times you'll want to put a pillow over your head and get back to sleep. The idea is to keep going in a slow but steady manner towards your destination, no matter if you feel like it or not. That's how winning is done - consistently executing on a plan or a direction.

Best regards,
Razvan

Great article and wonderful advice to be applied! I have in the past fallen into the trap of waiting for the perfect solution to come my way and then missing out opportunities and also missing out on the phenomenal learning potential that exists in taking action.

My top steps for getting to where i need to be are:

    Decision
    Action
    Faith
    Persistence

    Hello Alan,

    Thank you.

From what I can see, you have a funnel running, so at least you are doing something. Congratulations for this.

    Best regards,

I really like this point. Recently I was having a bad day with my illness and didn't feel like working at all. However, I decided to get on with it anyway and not only did it turn out of be a great day of work, looking back on it I feel a sense of great fulfilment knowing that I didn't give up and kept going regardless of how I felt.

So I'm going to remember that in the future.

I routinely encompass affirmations in my repertoire and that eliminates procrastination quite a lot.
