Why Does Time Go Faster As We Get Older?

Hey Warriors,

Just a thought for you to ponder. Ever felt like time is speeding up as you get older? I did a video on this earlier this year (https://youtu.be/-Y33hQVBXLQ). To sum it up, research shows that our perception of time changes when we stop having first experiences in life. Back in the day when I started full-time work, I found myself doing a lot of repetitive tasks. There was nothing unique or different from each day. No wonder people say 'same shit different day!'...

As online marketers, we get more flexibility to choose how we run our business; what parts we decide to do for ourselves and what we can outsource to others. Despite this, however, there will always be repetition in our lives. My questions to you: have you observed this phenomenon? What do you do to make everyday life more interesting?

Each day becomes less percentage of our life experience, hence it's a question of perception.

jmferret hit the nail on the head. The old we get the less of a % that 1 year is of our lives. So when we're 5 1 year was 20% of our lives, that seems huge! But when we're 50, 1 year is only 2% of our lives so then the perception is that it's faster, but it's really just our perspective that changes

Internet helps you to learn more, how to save more time, it depends on how you use the Internet. Time cannot be stopped, so do a proper time management system to work out the best of all.

Try moving to other country, you will see how time stops running fast and starts running very slow. That's what happened to me, few months ago...

I moved to UK, and I had to wait week and a half to get a job offer. So I had lot of free time to explore new environment and get used to it. I don't remember last time, when time run so slowly.

And I totaly agree that new experiences makes time run more slowly, but after you find yourself chained in daily rutine everything just comes back to "normal" and it looks like time is just running to fast. I like to say: if you work for someone (you are not your own boss) in exchange of money you sacrifice your time and after that comes rutine, which just keeps eating your time... Your boss pays you money for your time, the only difference is that someone it sells for more money than others.

      Interesting topic!

My answer is that the perception of time fluctuates depending on if you're trapped in negative thoughts and unpleasant situations (time slow down) versus having a good time and be in your element (time flies), so to speak.

Also, when you are getting older your awareness changes and it influences the speed rate of the psychological time.

90% of the work I did for 20 years was while being somewhere else mentally. On rare occassion, I found my work challenging, and time slowed as my aggravation increased.

I'm 43 and one half (borrowed from Knights Tale) and at 18years old I set a longterm goal to be financially comfortable by age 45.

At the time, $1M was a huge number to me, but now that 25 years have passed, and I am nearing my deadline...

    Two perception changes come into play;

1.) A million dollars when I was 18, would be like $5M today!

2.) I no longer have 28 years to compkete this tall order!

    So, in conclusion...

Being 1.5 years away from my goal seems to be making time shrink, and fly by!

But, if I could make $1M from now - age 45, it would resemble the vision I had when I was 18, as the original goal spanned a 28 year deadline... But to make it in 1.5 years would be 10x more powerful!

Yes, perceptions play heavy on the mind. I believe, our perceptions dictate the outcome - we simple need to recognize that which alters our perceptions...

You can slow down time using spells but they are hard to find. It works with a hypnotic induction because the virtue of time is accessible part of the universe. You can slow down aging as well.

Well personally I believe its this simple ! about our perception of time that is. When you were very young say two years old one year seemed like a very long time? Well it was! it represented 50% of your life up to that point. even and the age of say ten years old one year represented a 10th of our your life. Well if your say 50 years old one year represents?? well I guess you see my point.

I think at a younger age we have less responsibilities and demands placed on our time. Because we don't have as much to do, we don't focus on time as much as we're forced to when we get into the later stages of our lives.

The amount of time we have never changes we all get roughly 8760 hours, 525600 minutes or 31,536,000 seconds every year; but it's how we spend that time that makes the difference.

Time can pass quickly when you're in the company of good people or pass slowly when you're doing something you hate.

Time never changes; the only thing that changes as we get older is our perception of it.

Why Does Time Go Faster As We Get Older?

The answer to that question is very simple: The society makes as slaves and instead of how to think it teach us what to think.

Here is a simple example about that:

When we are kids, we think about what will be the life when we finish elementary school, after that we are thinking about what high school should we choose so we can go further, the next thing is choosing a college and when we graduate, we have almost 25 years and we are thinking that it's time to get married, makes kids and die like the others mortals...

Are we really created for that purpose? No! People today see more and feel less, that's why our life's are speed up.

Save that comment to look at 20 years from now. If you are still thinking along the lines of elementary and middle school...you are too young to understand the "fast forward" of time in the later years.

It's applying even at a young age - I run a Scout troop and regularly chat with teenagers and when the subject of time flying by it's happening to them as well.

Just too much happening in modern life - no idea what they'll be thinking about this subject by the time they reach my age

For me to make my life more bearable i have my basketball passion , getting my friends kicked in a few games of ball. But time flyies i can tell you that. And yes the loved one , just look at her eyes and a few days will also go by. Dont forget to visit the familly also , and your time will be filled and happy. It is a success when the day comes to have more good memories than those bad ones. Cheers.

I keep telling my son when someone asks you what you want to be when you are older say"younger!"

I think it is a mix of a few things.

Time is definitely speeding up-everything is becoming more it is the natural progression of evolution.

Some people say life is getting better, others disagree.

I know one thing for sure and that is TIME IS PERCEPTUAL.

I remember waiting for Christmas when I was a kid and it took a million years-NOW it shows up everytime I blink.

I know that time flows when you are having fun and at other times you can be so bored you are waiting for the grass to grow.

I think it's important to remember to stay in the moment and that to me means enjoying as much as you can with whatever is before you.

You can't stop time and you certainly can't slow it down but it does respond to how you feel.

So finding things that slow you down will alter your perception of time and how you utilize it.-Hope this helps -Jennifer
