Portfolio is not necessary that it is worked done to a client but your design, your creation. Just do at least 3 websites, landing pages, logos,etc.

I know how you feel - I've been there and it can be a confusing arena to enter into.

I've spent the past two years looking at, trying and applying various things within the IM space. I think the best advice anyone can give to a newbie in this area is this;

Focus - find something that others have shown to work and then stick with that system

Market - Find a market where people are already looking for answers and need problems solved (top 100 products in Amazon, Clickbank Market place - sort by popularity, Yahoo shopping some places to start market research)

Innovation - within those hot markets - look at what's missing, how can you put a different twist on things to differentiate yourself - for instance if you have a high converting product on clickbank but there landing page is "average" - make your own presales page (using your graphics skills) tell the story in a different way - and make affiliate commissions.....

Clarity - be clear on what the outcome you want - is it $100 additional income or 10k per month? If you know what your goal is - the business model to support that becomes more apparent.
