The Emily Dickinson Productivity Secret

It is surprisin' how dead lady poets still got potential to pack a punch in today's hard-hittin' world of internet marketin' an' self-development.

Slap this cool poem from Emily Dickinson top of your daily mantra list an' lower the drawbridge on smart success for the future:

There are two Mays
And then a Must
And after that a Shall.
How infinite the compromise
That indicates I will!

Swing from doubt to determination in 5 cool lines — mebbe even at 5am if ur stickin' to full power Mind Warrior boosto schedule.

Try it for a week an' then mebbe we can all progress to Charles Olson an' really kick *ss.

I will!

I will!

I will!

    • 'Tis true.

Mayhap by mine own misappropriated sensibilities
may I be hoist 'pon the morrow's rack by the verilies.

      (think that's King Lear btw)

But you raise a valid point, so I will depart from my customary vernacular to speak briefly of what has come to be known as "the visible soul", in theatrical circles at least.

So much performance deals with artifice.

The actress assumes a role, and her pretence convinces the audience to become complicit in her illusion.

For a moment, the facade becomes real, and the make up assumes a texture one could kiss as if it were truly flesh.

Such is the magic of artifice.

But there is another more potent force, one more eternal than mere stage sets and make up and costumes.

This is the "visible soul" -- and all great actresses esteem it worthier than mere pretence.

Beyond artifice, the actress is visible in spite of the role she plays.

We are captivated by her because she reveals the vulnerability of her own human heart.

It is raw and tiny and fragile, and the stage's illusory trappings serve to amplify its every nuance rather than cast a shroud upon it.

In this amplification, it is rendered invisible until the audience sees only the actress.

The nakedness of her soul touches on all shades of emotion the audience knows to be true, like some material conduit existed between them for the verbatim transmission of humanity's deepest secrets.

Soft as a kiss, hard as a punch, it is authentic, instantaneous, uplifting.

By this means, she transforms intention into a truly potent force.

I guess that's why the Mind Warriors have their own space here.

To answer the question: what is the potent force I possess that will spare me the agony of strutting and fretting my hour upon the stage only to remain forever unheard, even to myself?

(I'm paraphrasing the bard here, but I hope you get the point.)

For me, the current Mind Warrior interpretation of the best way to tread the boards involves rather more stage paint, costumes and arm waving than I believe is necessary or productive.

But that is just me speaking.

On which note, nothing Balestra is likely to be forgotten or ommitted whenever I commit words to air.

Should that moment come, maybe some small part of the world will tumble into a me-shaped hole, there to linger momentarily before walking on.

      *

Formal mutation over, gonna slap some more Emily Dickinson where I can feel it...

      This is srsly weird.

Right now, it don't matter where we are, or where we end up.

We are linked in a chain by numerous gymnastic dangles, all on the flipside of a lofty silence.

To be frank, this post started out from a desire on my part to spank my own ass with a book of poems, which in turn started out with a moment of frivolity in the Off Topic subforum, which in turn started out thanks to some spammer hittin' on WF with his (swiftly pulled) link to a 'network' of spankin' websites.

The mods pulled the link in a blink, but its brief life is not without consequence, because now we roped in Dickinson and Frost from outta the spanko wilderness between us, an' a new life form lurches into momentary view.

Mebbe I am the worst kind of juvenile imbecile but this excites me beyond all measure.

I believe life's generative dangliture to be a gift unfoldin' before us.

sorry to out yu.. but nearly 20 years of roleplaying online ..

for me the current mind warrior interpretation .well a lor of the people talking about success seem to ignore ..90 percent of what very wealthy people or successfull people in any field actually are doing and say they are doing ..

the success model on the forums tends to be a regurgitation of the Mlm pep talk speakers of the 80's and 90's ..and a basic lack of grasp that the main reason most people are not in the 1 percent is because only 1 percent of the people can ever be in the 1 percent of people ..

and the person who uses internet marketing to make 3-5 k a month and only be average income wise.. but they travel..and take time to enjoy their lives and watch movies in the afternoon.. spend time with friends..heck even bother having friend who arn't all looking to be rich ..

the tone of the board seems to come across ..that if you are not doing IM to be rich..you are just going to be another one of them average people who are failures for being average ..

in any case .. i hope the emile dickinson hit what ever spot you needed hit early saturday morning ..

Hey — I'd facepalm, but I dunno which part of my shapeshiftin' physiognomy is my face, let alone my palm.

      But ur right about regurgitation.

Regurgitation is never the answer because even a King's banquet don't taste as good 2nd time around.

spanking your own ass is much more entertaining than face palming ..haha ..

i think back in dickinson's time..people didn't become successful writing books..they made money than started writing books ..

the most interesting people the ones who when their old you listen to their stories.. are the people who swung from one dangling thread to the next dangling thread ..

in the media we here whining about the death of the middle class do to the greed of corporations..when it was corporate greed..that created the middle class to have a large group of people to sell average crap to ..the telivision /department store supermarket industrial complex ..

so i tend to argue against the success model that is still based on that 80's and 90's motivational doctrine ..

that ignore the dangling bits that take you to interesting places..and tries to get you to set goals that don't allow ou the eiggle room to go from thread to thread ..

          Paths are curious things.

Mine leads back directly to my birth, an' though its course meanders, the narrative is singularly mine.

Guess this is true for all of us.

Where things get super illusory, particko when goal settin', is to imagine the future will behave in the same way.

But the only lines here are the tines of infinite forks.

So it is a never-endin' process of takin' aim, reassessin', an' watchin' for stuff as the world morphs all around ya.

It is in the nature of narrative to unfold in successions of heroic bursts an' cruel interruptions.

I have no problem with motivation, an' I am all too aware of my own slacko, but there comes a point when testosterone bloodlust slays more than it births, an' I see a lot of that on MW.

Zergo sits uneasily with ergo, all things considered.

but isn't it the cruel interruptions the burn down the bridges of the well planed path .. that cause us to again start hunting for threads .. or things that dangle ..

so the real choice of going into the future ..to we attempt to get on paths that will safely get us to our graves ..needing fires or cruel interruption to take us off the path ..and look for a new path ..

or do we walk a path but willingly swing off the path ..when interesting danging bits allow the opportunity for adventure..without the need for cruel interruptions ..

life evolves on this planet not from mutations over long periods of time ..but as a result of what survives after cruel interutions in the environment ....

and we being part of the human race.. are a generator of cruel interruptions..

motivation has it's place..but it doesn't matter how early you get rich..it will not protect you from cruel interruptions

  • I guess you gotta fire an' spark an' breathe all choice u got into some kinda life.

Like u say, simple force of existence gonna stop u at evry turn.

An' the blunt truth is, u gotta roll with these punches an' affirm their place in yr narrative even if u never invited 'em.

Which is I guess why life is so sweet.

I wld love to write more on this but my time here right now is vapor.

O, the mist of a cruel interruption generated by a prior dream.

But such is the nature of the Real Life open text box.

Gotta go there somehow, into that monstrously unexistent space, so mebbe I oughta choose terpsichore of leapo, jus' in case some f*cker insists I line dance to make evrythin' straight.
