Self Help Books That Don't Relate To Money? Need Help

Hey guys, I was hoping that you guys could recommend me some really good books that don't really have to do with helping you out financially but focus more on getting rid of the internal demons and enemies that poisons the mind.

I finally realize that I really need to work on myself. I'm not as confident as I should be, or as social as I would like to be. Also, I wish that a lot of the negative thoughts I have wouldn't effect me so much. I want to get to the point were I can turn any negative thought and turn it into lemonade and really believe that it is lemonade.

I just had the epiphany that I needed to concentrate more improving myself after the break up with this girl I was seeing. I just realized that as much as I wanted a relationship, I just wasn't ready for it because there's a lot of work that I need to do on myself first in order to establish a successful one.

To be honest I'm not %100 comfortable in my own skin and I care too much about what people think of me, even people I don't know. It keeps me from taking action and taking the risk necessary to creating the change I want... I want to create the best version of me that there can possibly be!

So, if you guys could just recommend me some books that really helped improve your life, I would really appreciate it...

Thanks

Hey heres a few that really helped me out

The Power of Now and The New Earth by Eckhart Tolle - Basically about transcending your ego and living in the present moment.

Psycho Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz - About your self concept and gives you a system that you can implement to make self change.

Fire in the Belly by Sam Keen - On being a man

Way of the Superior Man by David Deida - On masculine polarity, relationships and finding your purpose. Gets a bit flowery, but theres a lot of good stuff in the book.

Those are all books that have helped me tremendously in my own self development. I just put a brief summary of the books, but if you got any questions just lemme know.

    Good Luck

Hey you are not alone but what is different is your honesty with yourself so that is the first step you really have to be totally dissatisfied with where you are at. Anger is cool it has movement so rev up the emotion but start to chanel to where you want to go.

The books above I would second also Eckhart's The Power Of Now is a good one.

Another classic is from Anthony Robbins "Unleash The Power Within"
It really covers alot of techniques that are used in NLP and the like to deal with those negative emotions and create neural pathways to positive change.

Also look for Wayne Dwyer and Deepak Chopra they come from a slightly different place then Robbins but have some truly wonderful transformation books that are not about wealth creation etc

I also would encourage getting into meditation as it is in the moments of stillness that you have to face these demons and get comfortable knowing that nothing is permanent and the very nature of life is that every changes. THis becomes your path to freedom holding the self back.

    Any way good luck.

If you can get around the style in which the message is delivered:
Shut Up, Stop Whining, and Get a Life: A Kick-Butt Approach to a Better Life - by Larry Winget

Easily one of the five or six best I've ever read - and I've read em ALL!

By the way the style isn't all that bad, it's just pretty direct. I found it to be a good read for that very reason.

Funny how this is actually the same problem that I always have. I just care so much about how other people think about me and I actually start getting all the negative thoughts that make me feel hopeless if I feel I didn't "do things perfectly".

Btw, I suggest you can learn a bit of meditation to cheer up and relax your mind. Maybe reading meditation books such as "Piece of Quiet" by Paul Wilson or "Miracle of Mindfulness" by Thich Nhat Hanh will be really helpful. For general self-help books, I highly recommend "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle and probably "The Secret". Those are 2 books that help me a lot to be in the present and let go all the negative feelings and thoughts that I experience.

    Best regards,
    Felix

Richard Bandler's stuff can be very life-changing. Frogs into Princes, The Structure of Magic, The Adventures of Anybody, and Transformations for a start.

They're all great, and they can certainly help turn any man into the better man you described in your post.

    Hi Chris

There is only one work (in my opinion) the "Master Key System" by Charles F Haanel. It's a series of 24 lessons on how to THINK positively.

I guarantee that if you do what the master says in this work you will never have to write a post like the one you have written again.

Send me a p.m. if you'd like a text copy.

    Prosperity!

One of my favorites isn't a book, but rather an audio collection by Earl Nightingale called, "Lead the Field." It's motivating, full of great wisdom, and a powerful tool to promote inner change.

Also, a little tip I learned some time ago and find helpful is this: whenever I read a book, take a course, listen to a lecture or the like I always make a list of three action steps I will take. I can always take more after completing the three, but what most people do (and I used to be this way) is learn all kinds of great stuff, but then never take action.

Action is the key . . . so you might want to adopt this little tip as you engage in your personal inner makeover.

I hope only the best for you!

*searches through the PLR on my hard drive and finds something of significant value*...

      Overcoming Obstacles With Meditation

One of the greatest obstacles between you and your happiness is simply one word, stress. By stress I mean a feeling that you have in your mind of fear, anxiety, distress, worry, unease,or foreboding caused by using your mind to imagine a bad outcome to a past, present,or future event. You can use meditation to control your thoughts and feelings. You have to remember things are just things, events are merely events, situations either good or bad are just situations. Its up to you to choose how you will react to the situation, meditation can help you.

Stress will never be completely gone in our lives because of all the negative feedback we have taken on,but by meditating we can eliminate the majority of it.The hard part to eliminate stress is controlling our imaginations to have a happy outcome rather than a poor one.You create your world by your own expectations, and you can influence your future by how you react to the present. If,as part of your meditation, you believe that every event will turn out to be to your benefit, stress will never enter into the picture.

I have spent a lot of time convincing people how meditation can change their lives. When they finally come to believe it,stress was was largely gone from their lives. Many of those whose lives had been nearly ruined by a numerous amount of stress said that using meditation was the greatest gift that they have received.I know meditation is not a gift, but knowing how to control the stress in my life was just like the greatest gift I ever had.If you always remember to stay control of your thoughts,it will be near impossible to feel fear or stress.

You should get a great deal of comfort from the meditation because your imagination is entirely under your control. You have every situation in your life under your control. You can choose to control a bad situation or to turn the bad situation into a better situation. If you are still allowing the events that happened to you to still bother you meditation will not help you.You have to open your mind to understand how meditating will help you.You have got to get all the bad thoughts and anger you feel out of your mind before you start to use meditation.

Do something that you feel good about or something that could make you so relaxed that you will let nothing bother you.Once you can allow yourself to relax and feel good about yourself you will see that you than can meditate about the good things that occurred in your day instead of thinking about the things that happened during the day that upset you that you cannot change.

Meditation can help to clear your mind and give you such a relaxing feeling inside, which so many more people should try and conquer throughout their lives. This is something that is not harmful to you in any way and all you have to look forward to from here is living a much less stressful life and feeling better each day when you first step out of bed.
      ------------------------------------

      Now my personal thoughts....

In reality we are often confronted with unimaginable objects/ or should I say forces that block our path in life. In the end we are all different people and some need more guidance than others. But essentially what a book teaches you is that you need to help yourself.

I have read many interesting and inspirational books in my life time, and often find that I reflect on the past way more than I should. "If only" is two words that are mentioned more often than not. The thing is, you need to rid yourself of the "what if I did that, then this wouldn't have happened," saying.

It has happened and the only thing we can do as human beings is look forward and walk further along the path. It might get rockier and more unstable, but usually, you will find that even if you are someone like me that has no family and friends, beside my husband, then you will always have someone to lean on. Never go through it alone. To be honest, a person can go through life on their own to some degree, but at some point you will give up. The beautiful sky will look dull and gray and where stars were strewn like diamonds across the sky, all you will see is the clouds gathering into a storm.

My advice... pick up your chin, realize that you are not alone and walk further. At some point you will come to a beautiful lake where the moon touches the softest of ripples and the stars dance in merriment. It is here where you will find peace and finally understand that life is so precious and that death is only the grand finale to a fantastic life lived. Your spirit lives on... in people's heart's.

    Besides what's been recommended already:

Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway, Susan Jeffers.

Also Steve Pavlina releases his book in October, Personal Development for Smart People. He published a free chapter on his blog, and if the rest of the book it's at the same level, it's surely worth buying.
