What is the one main thing that you use in order to be creative?
#creativity

There was recently an article on the Inc website that I personally found a lot of truth to. It said that creative people work better in an environment where there is a set of requirements. For example, it might be difficult to be creative when you have no barrier, but the fact is that when you HAVE TO think inside the box, that's when your reflex might be to think outside of it.

When I need to be creative, I will wait until the evening and either take a shower or do the dishes. There's two reasons this works for me.

First, I find that I'm more focused in the morning so that's a good time to tackle work that requires critical or analytical thought, like resolving customer tickets or programming. Creativity requires the opposite of focus, so that your mind can wander and explore paths that aren't logical or anticipated. At night, I'm tired and so for this reason my mind is better prepped for creative thinking.

This ties into the second reason - showering, doing the dishes or any other brainless activity lets your mind relax and go blank. What better time for new, creative thoughts to enter than when your mind's empty?

Just do it, and do it better.

I also agree. It was found that smarter people go to bed later than regular people. Donald Trump also wrote in a blue book he gave away at Trump University that he would have trouble sleeping because he was so excited about working on the next project in the morning. Looking forward to the next day is a very positive attitude and there was an news story on Elite Daily that had these statistics about people who go to sleep later than the average person (times they go to sleep and wake up)...

        Very Dull (IQ < 75)
        Weekday: 11:41 pm -7:20 am
        Weekend: 12:35 am -10:09 pm

        Normal (90 < IQ < 110)
        Weekday: 12:10 am -7:32 am
        Weekend: 1:13 am -10:14 am

        Very Bright (IQ > 125)
        Weekday: 12:29 am -7:52 am
        Weekend: 1:44 am -11:07 am

Whenever you have trouble sleeping, go in front of a mirror and start motivating yourself. Write all of that down or record what you say. That's how you get your next big product!

I've had this experience with music composition. When I only have a short melody or jingle I can get "writer's block" and leave it on the shelf for months. But when I tell myself that the song will be x minutes long, using only a certain number of chords, and only certain instruments - then the song practically writes itself. I imagine similar principles apply to other endeavours.

wow is this how normal generally uncreative people have to think of creativity ..or try to be creative ..

like yuck man ..and to think i made myself hate life and be miserable for 30 plus years ..trying to act normal and hide my creativity ..

here is the secret ..everyone is creative in certain areas ..and totally un imaginative in others..thus most people ignore and devalue their areas of natural creativity ..and try to for creativity where they have no business ..

you are probably still killing your batural creative juices ..by trying be creative in a way that makes money ..

you are not creative ..if ..9 out of 10 people don't think your f in crazy and your idea is dumn as hell ..

and yes this is probablt offensive to posters in this thread..but if you actually can box time off to be creative.. you are not creative.. flood your mind with ideas ..and box time of when you are doing something productive and have to focus ..

now if your faking it and forcing it ..and not willing to chemically escape normal thoughts ..to be creative ..

the most productive method of sustained creativity ..that win't beat up your egos by peroducing a bunch of ideas other people laugh at ..

theft and synthesis ..it worked for both steve jobs and bill gates ..henry ford ..

identify a problem in one area .. then look other areas with similar methods or method that work in the reverse .. and where they sole the problem.. try to implement that solution ..with modifications for the problem at hand in your area ..

henry ford didn't invent the assembly line ..interchangable parts and stardardization where around decades before .. he didn't invent the car .. what he did he learned to build cars..then learned how meat processing plants .. take apart animals and break them down into parts ..

ray kroc didn't invent Mcdonalds i doubt he invented franchising .. he just merged the two concepts together ..

even as a naturally creative person.. the hunt to understand how things are done differently in different places .only get more intence..

so to end this if you want to be more creative ..be much more educated about ..the process of how many things are made ..curiosity and hunger for knowledge ..

  • I figure you gotta have a general intention to be symbiotically convulsive.

It is true that you can train your brain by goin' on a kinda workout, an' true also that constraints an' deadlines prompt your braino to fire up solutions, but chill time offers up surprizes also, an' you gotta figure that it is in your interests for acts of creation, however small, to be goin' on alla the time.

Guess you gotta trust that your brain is a fully operational generation machine jus' waitin' to be fed stuff an' throw it out, transformed.

Stick any two lumps of info in there, an' it will make with the 'two an' two together' symbiosis deal without you havin' to do anythin' else special.

Wait around a while, an' it gonna convulse out some product.

Mebbe all you gotta do is be real pernickety about what you put in there, an' watch real close for what gets sicked up outta the tubes.

You can prolly even wash an' dress an' breathe an' sh*t at the same time.
