The Most Stupid Thing I Ever Heard Said About Achieving Success

If you are a first born son (not daughter, mind you) listen up. You can forget about success because you will never achieve it. If you think I'm stupid saying that, then you are right. But before you write me off, I didn't say that. A third rate Church Minister in Nigeria did. According to him, ALL first born sons are jinxed. They have bad luck stalking them like a second shadow and unless he prays for you, Mr. First Born Son, then you will remain a failure till the day you die.

Now such a statement is not just downright stupid, the man who said that needs to have a brain surgeon examine him. To say I awas incensed when i heard this is an understatement. I was outraged!

But come to think of it. What is your take on this? Are you a first born son? Do you believe it? I am one and I don't believe a word of all that. Everyone in the world has an equal chance to see their dreams come true and achieve success. Your position in your family is NOT an indicator of who and what you'll become. Success is what you do for yourself.

Most times, the people who should be teaching the truth about success would rather make false proclamations and sustain them so that they can benefit from the sensation they create to sell their books, tapes, cd's, dvd's, seminars and whatever else.

Because of the misinformation that exists everywhere, I decided to become a 'Success Rebel' by only doing the exercises for success that work for me. The same thing is what I advise you to do. However, I bet that minister back here at home in Nigeria will be happy at the large crowd of first born sons who'll be attending his next service.

Success is basically a feeling of satisfaction that you have achieved what you set out to. Each time you get that feeling my friend, you have succeeded. If you are looking foe a surefire way of achieving the success you want I'll advice you learnt how to use what I call The One And Only But Often Ignored Success Technique That Works Every Single Time Without Fail. In one word it's MENTORSHIP.

You can begin to succeed and are sure of realizing ALL your dreams ONLY when you get yourself a mentor. A mentor is someone who has already achieved great success in the area of life you want to become great in. And every area of life has thousands of such people. Immediately you get yourself a mentor, you will achieve success in less than ½ the time it takes others, whether you are a first born son or not.

Go out and succeed, friend. Success is yours. I love you.

    aiKay,
What a true statement of fact you have posted. The Bible says, "he becometh poor that deals with a slack hand". People are not born poor or rich, they become poor or make riches for themselves irrespective of their position in the family.
I agree with you that one of the secrets of success is having a successful mentor. God bless you for this thoughtful post.

Another stupid saying? "If I can do it, you can do it."

Hey, I can knit a sweater with seven different colors in complex snowflake patterns. Can you?

I can tell you the history of a specific tree by looking at the way it's growing and by the growth rings after it's been cut down.

I can tell you what kind of forest bird it is just by listening to its song.s

I can't run because my crutch gets in the way. But I can play the harp and bring tears to your eyes.

Don't ever say "If I can do it, you can do it." That's a stupid, cruel thing to tell any person.

        [Okay, end of rant.]

I think that's a ridiculous statement. That puts all your own hopes and dreams in the hands of someone else. You should have many mentors along the way - and these would be people you watch and listen to.

You do not need hand holding, or someone telling you each move to take. How many people do nothing because "no one will mentor me"? Be in charge of yourself instead of expecting someone else to be responsible for you.

One of the dumb sayings I see often is "just never give up".

If you are doing things wrong - you can do them for years and they're still wrong.

EDIT: As for the "first born" thing, that comment flies in the face of evidence to the contrary from multiple studies showing the first born most often the most successful.

Not really a stupid statement Ma'am.

What ever you can do today, if I put my mind to it and learn all it takes, I CAN DO IT!

That is the foundation of that statement

Why perpetuate something so ridiculous by posting it here?

It's clearly stupid, so you read it, chuckle to yourself and move on ...

I agree with Kay on this one:

Whilst success is available regardless of the order of birth, the first born may have an advantage in that, often, more is expected of them and they may be required to show leadership towards younger siblings.

I was the eldest of three boys in my family and the youngest didn't like school, often not attending. His teacher would call me to his classroom (we attended the same school) and ask about my brother's absence. When I returned home, I'd beat the s..t out of my little brother and then write a note for the teacher, which explained my brother's absence. I'd sign my mother's name on the note. The next day I'd make sure my brother attended school with it. This apparently was acceptable to the teacher as I would never hear anything more about the matter and the practice continued until I left the school.

There is some evidence that children without siblings - an "only child" - also have an advantage, possibly due to the extra attention received from adults.

However, it is nonetheless true that success is not dependent on our position in the family and high achievers are known to come from all positions in the order of birth - unless you're planning to be king, when it helps to be a first born prince!

                Firstborn.....mentorship!

The order of birth is an important factor in success among siblings but does not necessarily determine the degree of success to be attained. Family experiences have shown that firstborns wield enormous influence on their younger ones especially at the growing period. A firstborn that is very studious is most likely to transmit the same attitude to his siblings. However, once he falters, there is the strong likelihood that the younger ones will follow.

We all know the impactful strength of peer pressure on a growing child. Many have been victims of negative peer pressure and many have reaped immensely from a positive one. As a matter of fact, effect of peer pressure on a child can rightly be said to start from home. The “bigger boy” of the family normally exerts influence on the younger ones. And the bigger boy is usually the firstborn.

This early phase of influence on one’s life, which usually sets the tone for subsequent attitudinal development, is actually an early form of mentorship. Parents who understand this fact are usually very particular about the character development of their firstborn; this is not in any way underrating the treating of each child according to his/her individualistic traits.

Having said all this, there is no justification whatsoever to assert that all firstborn cannot make success in life. To say that will be anti-Scripture and a delusion of the highest order. From the age of accountability, you directly or indirectly determine the type and degree of success you’ll attain in life, regardless of your order of birth. Wisdom demands that if one invites God into his quest for success, not only will he achieve true success, but will also attain it at a faster speed and at a height far beyond what his natural ability will propel him to.

                To your greatest success,
                Adiari Captain.

    How about "Just work Harder"

It doesn't work so well for the fly trying to get through the window pane to the outside. Great little book about this You2 by Price Pritchett.

Working hard can be a solution but is by far not the only key to success.
